There seems to be some dissatisfaction as of late with having Donald and Goofy as Sora's partners, from the fans and, really, from the games themselves. Some people think that the dynamic duo are too silly, too useless, and not cool enough to really tag around with. The games seem to echo this sentiment, as Donald and Goofy have been increasingly kicked to the curve in favor of more "cool" people for Sora to pal around with, from Riku and King Mickey to the promise of a bevy of keyblade wielders in KH3. And I guess I can understand that: it's natural for people to want to be the kickass characters who can deal out a ton of damage.

 

But here's the reason why I really, really like Donald and Goofy as Sora's trusty wingmen. At the soul of Kingdom Hearts, the story is about friendship, and Donald and Goofy are probably the best example of this. They run into Sora out of the blue, and don't really know what to make of him, but through their adventures together, they become inseparable. They've stood by Sora's side at least twice when events might have led them to simply leave him (deciding to be with Sora rather than Riku, and coming to his aid in Castle Oblivion even after Sora sends them away), and in turn, Sora is there for them. Even in re:Coded, they try to save a fake recreation of Sora simply because he reminds them of their friend.

 

As for their being useless in battle? Well, to be honest, I'm kind of glad they are. Sure, Sora could probably find some tougher people to stand by his side, but instead, he chooses to fight alongside the people who mean something to him. He doesn't just ditch them because their powers are inadequate: he fights to protect them, knowing that they will try their best to do the same. And in the end, it's not about Sora hanging around with whoever might be the coolest, or most badass. It's about Sora hanging out with his best pals. And Donald and Goofy are just that: the reminder that friendship isn't based on what you can do for someone, but just because they're fun to hang around with.

your not alone in this one. goofy was always the one i would replace.

Me to. Even if they are not your partners throughout KH3 i would hope that Nomura puts them as partners for the begining of the game until the other keyblade wielders are awakened or found. For me it also adds a lot of fun to the battle seeing donald with his staff and goofy with his shield do ridiculous moves lol. It also to me adds to the comic relief of the game.

I always keep Donald and Goofy in my party, and I never kick them out. They aren't THAT bad in battle. Sometimes they become extremely handy.

The relationship Sora has with Donald and Goofy is an important part of the series, they have been supportive and stood by Sora's side. They even had to save his butt a few times. The only 'useless' thing I can see is the amount of times Donald is KO'd, but that's a different story. But heck, I keep him on the party all the time for his awesome magic.

It's silly to think that they're not 'cool' enough.

That is true. i like Donald and Goofy as Sora's friends, but I kinda don't like the fact they don't help at all. They have some abilties that would make things easier, but they never use it =S

When it's about story, I sure like the two of them, but they're becoming more cameos by the day. I hardly see how Disney'd like this, but they have. New characters are showing up, and they are the considered now weak allies to be in the field. Yen Sid even tells them not to go to the Keyblade Graveyard because they'd be a burden

Donald and Goofy might not be as powerful as the other characters, but they still managed to keep up with Sora during all his world saving exploits.  They went into battle with Xehanort's Heartless and Marluxia and nothing's shown story-wise that they got in the way during those battles.  I don't care for either of them (or Mickey for that matter) in the classic Disney shorts, but KH made me appreciate them, even if it's only this incarnation that I like.  Sure, they're not "cool," but anyone who can keep up with and stick with Sora after everything that happened is a badass in my book.  They're kind and loyal and they help to exemplify KH's themes of friendship.

Honestly, I found them annoying.

 

In Kingdom Hearts 2, I use to get on a skateboard and had this silly idea of escaping them.

 

I know you may disagree, but this is just my opinion.

I always kept Donald.

The best qualities about donald is that he uses all the potions you give him and would only use it on him and goofy. and goofy... hes actually noble in the game and not as naive as donald and sora combined surprisingly.

i never had any problems with them. i just dont like that thier damage givin is like nearly nonexistent. but i still love having a dog-thing(?) and a duck following me ... always fallowing me...

They're not my favorite characters, but I'm glad they're there. They're the R2 and C3-PO of the series, always around but never the center of the plot, helpful without demanding the spotlight. I've always been impressed with how Kingdom Hearts works in some Disney conventions, and their presence is one of them; they're the equivalent to Timon and Pumbaa to Sora's Simba.

I hope Donald and Goofy are your partners for KH3 just wouldn't feel the same without them they are my pals !

When Sora has Donald and Goofy as his partners, the game becomes more fun. In my opinion gameplay in BBS was kind of dull without anyone supporting you.

I've always loved Donald and Goofy in Kingdom Hearts- not so much in anything else. (Except "The Three Musketeers!") I want them to carry over to KH3, they were Sora's first partners in battle, and I want them to be his last!
