Nintendo Wii U - General Discussion

Recommended Posts

This week’s Media Create sales figures show that Nintendo latest home console, the Wii U, has sold one million units in Japan since its launch last year. Interestingly, the console reached the figure in thirty three weeks and the PlayStation 3 reached the figure in thirty eight weeks. However, it should be noted that the PlayStation 3 launched with a ridiculously high price tag back in 2006.

I bet when the new Super Smash Bros. come out, Nintendo will be selling millions yo!~

Heck yeah. Unless people decide to get the 3DS version instead...

How long did it take the 360 to sell 1 mill in Japan?

Has it even reached 1 million?

Independent game developers based in Japan cannot submit applications to develop for the Wii U console, according to a Nintendo form hosted on the 2013 Game Developers Conference (GDC) website.

The form invites potential Wii U developers to complete a questionnaire for an opportunity to be contacted by Nintendo.

However, it states in both Japanese and English, "We are not accepting applications from developers located in Japan at this time."

In a statement issued to CVG, Nintendo clarified its stance on the matter, stating, "The policy in question is the decision of Nintendo's department responsible for licensing activities in each region, and the licensing department of Nintendo is currently not accepting subject applications from individuals in Japan."

Developers located outside of Japan are able to submit applications. No further details regarding Nintendo's future approach to Japanese independent game developers have been made available.

Thanks to GameSpot.

Your loss Nintendo.

Kinda weird since I could see many of indie games fitting for Wii U very well..

Also Indie games are just firetrucking amazing. They are pretty cheap, they are actually unique and innovative. They are fun to play. They aren't over hyped and developers listen players.

To throw some amazing indie titles from last year: Walking Dead, Hotline Miami, FTL FAster Than Light, Journey, Cave Story +, Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, Rogue Legacy, Super House of Dead Ninjas, Don't Starve, Bit Trip series, Trine 2, Anna and many others
