Nintendo Wii U - General Discussion

Posted

This week’s Media Create sales figures show that Nintendo latest home console, the Wii U, has sold one million units in Japan since its launch last year. Interestingly, the console reached the figure in thirty three weeks and the PlayStation 3 reached the figure in thirty eight weeks. However, it should be noted that the PlayStation 3 launched with a ridiculously high price tag back in 2006.

  • The Wii U is an amazing system and you really have to own one to see how great it is. The games will come and they'll be great. Much like the Wii was to many people I'm sure the Wii U will be people's

  • As if region locking isnt bad enough.

  • Um...I feel like they're taking the whole " 'Murica" thing a bit too seriously.

Nintendo! Why can't you stop making horrible decisions?!

How many Japanese indie developers are there? Because it doesn't seem like very many

That's because you've never heard of them as much as american ones.  Which games are the ones that get brought to america?  It's not usually the indie ones.  Translation is probably a pretty big thing.

Mmmm, that's weird considering that I still can find Cave Story on the e-shop and that one was from a Japanese indie.

Anyway,I don't see that as a big of an issue considering we still get indie games from other parts of the world and Nintendo can still change some policy and allow Japanese indie to produce on the Wii U outside the japanese e-shop.

I don't know why some people make a big fuss out of nothing considering that 99% of you plays consolehandheld games much much more than an indie game but you guys talk as if there is no indie developer outside of Japan.

The only Japanese indie game that I liked was Cave Story.

At least they wasn't as dickish as Microsoft who barely cares about indies

Speaking of Journey, wasn't that game developed inside Sony's studio???If that's the case then Journey doesn't count as an indie game as much as a normal digital game.

There maybe many but compared to western indies, they're pretty few compared to them.

Still,at least we still get indies games from other parts of the world.

And still Nintendo support indies much better than Microsoft.

Not to mention they gave them the Unity engine and I heard they send dev kits for free to most of indie developers

I thought cave story was made by a Chinese developer

I thought cave story was made by a Chinese developer

Actually it was made by one Japanese guy named Daisuke Amana(If I pronounced it correctly) who worked almost 5 years to complete it.

The game is available on the e-shop,WiiWare,Steam,a physical copy for the 3DS and I think there is a PSP version but I'm not sure

Oh,one other thing.

I think Japanese indies still publish their games on the 3DS e-shop.

Hmmm, i learned about the game from a friend who said a chinese guy made it and it took him 3 years to complete. Never trust your friends.

Also,to Sora96 who likes to glorify everything.

How many Japanese indie games got released outside of Japan other than Cave Story and some other games?????compared to other indies from other parts of the world, very very few,and most of the ones released in Japan are either:

1Dating sims

2Graphical novels

3on-rail shooter with yaoi girls

4porn

Yeah what a great loss to most of us here who has an account on the AmericanEuropean e-shop.

They might allow them to publish on the Japanese e-shop,but if it isn't something as good as Cave Story, then I don't care

How it really went down:

Good to know that the Wii U is selling well!  ^_^

How long did it take the 360 to sell 1 mill in Japan?

3 years

Watch the PS4 sell that on day one.

What a fortune teller, tell me will I get a sexy wife???

I'm confident the Ps4 sell more than 1 million in a short time in the US and Europe, but I doubt day one in Japan since consoles there are pretty much non-existent compared to handheld sales there.

It'll sell more than million in the US pretty quick. But I don't think it would do it quick in Japan especially when there isn't that many Japanese game coming on launch compared to the Ps3 that will have a strong line up in Japan at the end if this year

Well I will be getting the 3DS version since I don't own a Wii U yo!~

Well, the 3DS version won't be as good as the console version as far as I'm aware

I dont even know what bethesda is, but reviewtechusa actually makes some good points here instead of repeating the same shit over and over again like most of his videos.

Try to make the title more clear

The title is like if you're the one not Bethesda

Besides,Bethesda never supported the Wii as far as I recall so this isn't a big surprise

bethesda made skyrim and the other elderscroll games

To be honest, whoever is disliking the Wii U and boycotting Nintendo platforms is a friend of mine! haha

The Wii U doesn't make sense to me.

They get boring after a while.

it's a gimic, Sony and Microsoft will find ways of encorporating the special features of the Wii U into the PS4 and X1 like they did with the Wii to X360 and PS3. The only difference is nintendo stealing titles exclusively. HATE!

The Wii U is an amazing system and you really have to own one to see how great it is. The games will come and they'll be great. Much like the Wii was to many people I'm sure the Wii U will be people's second console beside either their PS4 or X1. Then again it is the the cool thing nowadays to hate on Nintendo so whatever.

I don't own one and I think it's cool

Why though, it's a great console

well sony has always made money off of copying nintendo

Stealing titles? It's up to the companies, not Nintendo. People will find any excuse to hate on something, even when it's false.

Even if you look at it as Sony and Microsoft 'stealing ideas' from Nintendo, they put them to better use to the point that the Nintendo console is redundant in no time flat. The same will happen with this generation, so why bother wasting money on this when you could just save yourselves time and money and go with Sony (the smart choice) or Microsoft (the still smarter choice). I don't get why having two screens that you can't focus on at the same time is such a big seller. the demos I've seen have the EXACT SAME THING ON BOTH SCREENS! Hence why I call it a gimic. It's a Wii with a free handheld that will crumble beneath the PS4 and X1

As for title stealing, I confess my main focus here is on that we were due a major sonic platform game this year - and it turns out to be Lost World for Wii U and 3DS? It makes me believe less and less in Sega too for failing again to create a good story and Nintendo for holding what may be an alright sonic game to this soon-to-be redundant tech.....

Now this is advertising

No way exciting - hey look, it's a string of mario games..... these games could easily work on any console by the looks of things.... It's more an advert to say that we won't be able to play any new Mario games unless we switch to Nintendo, and even then we likely won't miss much..... the only big loss is the new Smash Bros :/
