Okay I knew for a long time that Aerith will die in FF7 because I watched Advent Children loooooong before I play the game

But she's dying now in disc 1??I thought she's gonna die before the end of disc 2 at least......it's a little to early for her to die in the game because I've been using her as the main healer on my team because of her limit break

Dammit Sephiroth, time to link my All materia to my Restore materia

Also, even though I knew she's gonna die for a long time, that scene was still pretty sad

I kinda regret spoiling this bit of the game before playing it

Cloud killed Aerith

He was close to doing it but Sephiroth did it anyway

Good to know

Awww come on guys spoiler tags please! Some of us haven't gotten a chance to play it yet. Lol

It's on going "joke" I guess you could say, since it's a video game, but in terms of reality, the angle at which Sephiroth sword went in and came out of her, determined that he hit nothing vital at all. Cloud drowned Aerith.

I know I've watched that on MatPat's Game Theory

But I'm gonna guess that's because of limitations of hardware back then when it comes to CG cutscenes,if this scene was to be remade with even Ps2 graphics it would've been more accurate

Regardless, that scene is still pretty sad

It's 16 years old, when were you planning to play it? on it's 20th anniversary? xD

I'm just teasing, this is about the PC version.

I was just kidding also lol I already played and beaten it. ;)

Regardless

even though Advent Children spoiled this scene for me years ago....I still felt sad for Aerith if only for the fact she dies so early in the game at the end of disc 1

This scene was pretty sad......not as sad as Zack's death not even close....but it was sad when a member of my party I've been using for the entirety of disc 1 up until the Temple of the Ancient and then she got killed earlier than what I've expected.

Dammit Square Enix why can't you no longer tell a great story like this one for the Final Fantasy series?

Edited by Metal Snake

Wow, I thought you knew about this by now. But yeah, that's what happens. That's why I haven't continued playing it, because I'm trying to find all of her ultimate stuff before it's too late.

Cloud killed Aerith

Actually sephrioth was mind controlling g Cloud but he refused sephrioth and then sephrioth came down and killed Aerith from behind.

I knew about her death long before I played the game but I never thought she's gonna die that early at the end of the first freakin disc

I don't really think this is a spoiler anymore. It's kinda like the famous Harry Potter spoiler...

Snape kills Dumbledore

Pretty much everyone knows it unless you don't go on the internet or go outside whatsoever.

I know it's not a spoiler because literally I knew about this scene Waaaaay before I even got the game

But there is gonna be someone out there who's gonna bitch about it being a spoiler

I suppose you have a point.

I suppose you have a point.

I get what you've said because literally even people who aren't fans of Final Fantasy knows about this scene just as a part of gaming culture

Heck,Almost everyone knows about FFVII and Zelda Ocarina of Time just from how much impact those two games had on gaming in general

Because all the good members who used to work for Square left :P.

Yeah,but still.

It's not that hard to replicate a successful formula you have

I knew about her death long before I played the game but I never thought she's gonna die that early at the end of the first freakin disc

Well, I watched an entire playthrough years before I started playing, so I guess that sort of gave it away for me. But it's kind of hard to avoid when it's the one thing everyone ever talks about when you mention this game. But yeah, if I hadn't had known that first hand, I would never have been ready to loose her that soon in the game. It probably would have made more sense to have her die in the middle of the second disc. That's the other thing. THREE DISCS!? Man, that's....exactly what we do with book series these days, split them up into two or three separate movie installments instead of one big spectacle. But still, gaming was hard-core back then! I would never have the patience to have to switch discs like that, I'm much more comfortable with consistency. Still, props for the 80's and 90's kids, they knew how to live. You never hear about the stuff we late 90's and 2000's kids had to go through.

Keep in mind that Disc 1 is substantially longer on its own than the other two, so proportionatley it kind of evens out.

It's more of a space limitation of the hardware back in 1997. You literally couldn't have a game that long with that much content on one disc.

I'm pretty sure they kill her off on Disc 1 just because it was so unheard of back then to kill off a major character in a video game before the plot really gets going. lol

Pretty much. That's why some games that are kinda short like Fear Effect or Koudelka have like 4 discs of content due to space limitations because of how graphics intensive the FMVs get. Hell, then there's friggin Persona 2 that get split into 2 installments because of how long it is.

Tellah in FF4 got killed in the Tower of Zot which is relatively early in the game....though to be fair Tellah wasn't that major and it's weird that Fusoya and Palom can cast Meteor no problem but Tellah dies when he does it

Tellah was old for use te spell, Palom was young as for FuZoYa, he was a lunarian, so he has a let´s say..."extra power". Even so, the story behind Aerith´s death was  because during the development Nomura has 3 characters : Cloud, Barret and Aerith, and they knew one needed to die. Cloud couldn´t be because he was the protagonist, Barret was too obvious, the only choice remaining was Aerith, as by tradition in FF franchise before VII, one brave and strong character would sacrifice him/herself for the sake of the cause, fitting Barret, however the impact would have become less intereting, and Aerith´s death looked more natural, so they decided to let her go.

Buddy I know the story about Aerith and how the developers handled it it's not new for me

It's just I didn't expect her to die in Disc 1 rather than dying at disc 2
