Square Enix treats a fan badly.

Does anyone remember how long it took Birth by Sleep to come to other territories? I remember fans making English patches for that game, I also downloaded an English patch for KH2 Final Mix. But I thought it was okay, because I had already bought the Japanese version of the game. The number of times the English translation of Birth by Sleep was downloaded was over 100,000 times. Meaning Square lost big bucks if all of those people didn't buy an actual copy.

It's not like a translation pack is going put Square Enix into bankruptcy geez. They got enough money coming out of their asses. {At least from what I've seen}Still not as bad as Microsoft though.

Whoever is running that company needs to be fired immediately

Wada already stood down.

People come on. Square Enix wants people to buy Type-0 on PS4 & Xbox One. This fan-translation will make people not buy it.

Square Enix a business first. Never forget that.

In some ways Square Enix has become desperate over the past years, wouldn't doubt they'd do something like this.

It depends on the situation of the fan translation patches. On the one hand, I could see why SE would want them to stop. If these fan-lations are available for free down-load to the user, then SE would lose money (and it's my understanding that they're not doing so hot right now in that regard) Because if people down-load the fan patch, then they might not be as inclined to buy the official translation by the company right away, or not even at all. That costs money, and they're not authorized by the company to make those translations. But on the other hand, these fan patches allow a user to, at the very least, preview the game before it comes to their country, and if it's free, then it also allows users who may not have enough money to buy the official copy, play it until they can afford to buy it. At least, that's my opinion on this matter.

If they haven't purchased the PSP game (like most of them wouldn't have) then it would be piracy. Square Enix will most likely release a demo on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace if people want to preview the game. I think the PlayStation Store requires a demo for every PS4 game.

Did you mean piracy?

Yes. Aka theft.

Yes. Aka theft.

Ok thanks. Because you typed privacy. Now your sentence makes more sense. xD

@Sora96 i want everyone in management fired ASAP, except for Nomura and other game directors. Whoever is running the marketing department has no clue what they are doing. Skipping E3, the largest gaming event in the world that everyone watches for TGS, a japanese game show convention which will only be covered by a few gaming sites was a huge mistake. Then there was that whole FF7 G-Bike bullshit which is clearly a spit in the face to those that want an FF7 remake. Face it, Square merging with Enix was a huge mistake

Sad but oh well... Business is business like any other company.

You're crazy. And they definitely wouldn't listen to you.

Everyone covers TGS.

G-Bike bullshit? It's a bloody mini-game for smartphones and tablets. A FFVII remake would take tons of people and the game's director hasn't directed a game since VIII. He prefers producing games now.

Merging with Enix a mistake? Please. Square could have went under if it wasn't for the merger.

Maybe this will teach Square to release shit faster.

PSP was dead outside of Japan. Nothing they could do.

im sorry. I didn't realize they were a business. that usually means that they actually make crap

Ahh true... not to mention it`s their rightful property, so they do as they please.

And yet you keep buying said business' products.

Square-Enix is a business through and through, I didn't think it would be long until they did this. It was inevitable. A damn shame but it was gonna happen. Especially since this incident coincides with the announcement of a HD version of FF Type-0 so of course they would do this in order to get people to buy their game instead of using this Fan-Translation thus increasing sales. If they had left this alone, then they probably wouldn't make as much of a profit from it.

And yes, I know Square-Enix takes a very long time to make some games but the time and effort shows! No need to keep complaining about it. We know! Then again FFXV is taking WAY too long but that's a different issue altogether. Next-gen and what-not.

In the end, it's their Intellectual Property and they can do with it what they please. Weather it'd be letting everyone do what they want with it or not letting things like this happen.

I haven't bought anything from them in a long time. the only things that there are to look forward to is bloodbore, destiny, farcry 4 and unity. ive lost interest in kh. im only on this site now cuz of a few friends I don't want to leave behind.

Its understandable,it sucks for those who made that fan-translation,but SQUARE ENIX would lose money from something like this, its not profitable for them in any way, shape or form so they have no reason to let people download it.

They didn't skip e3 entirely. They announced one new game (Type-0 HD) and the year before that they announced two games at e3 (KH3 and FFXV). They have been treating their Western fans well recently. They should have ported Type-0 quicker but at least they have finally got their act together.

It's a pity that they aren't releasing this game for Vita too, though, since I imagine many fans were looking forward to a portable version.

*Sigh* Really getting tired of having to explain this...

The merger? It hasn't affected Square's decisions at ALL. The companies MERGED, but the development teams are still separate. In fact, if anyone got the short end of the stick, it's Enix. They've been pretty much tossed aside and forgotten everywhere that isn't Japan, even though they make fantastic games. People blaming Enix for Square's screw-ups isn't helping at all, anyway.

Also, fun fact. Dragon Quest hasn't been on iOS/Android until very recent times. They also haven't screwed over their fans when it comes to Dragon Quest. Nintendo's the one essentially screwing us DQ fans over by not localizing the games. There's really no correlation between Square's stupid decisions and Enix. I really wish people would quit picking on Enix for these, even though most people who do haven't even played an Enix game before.

There's so much butt hurtness over this. I've already stated my opinion on this in another thread but basically Square-Enix has every right to do what they did.
