Doctor Who is a British sci-fi television program that revolves around the adventures through time and space of an alien called the Doctor in his machine disguised as a blue police telephone box called the TARDIS (which stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Then along the way he also picks up companions (only the best though) to travel with him.

Though the Doctor looks human he is actually a Time Lord from the ancient planet Gallifrey (so he doesn't look human, you look Time Lord --they came first). The Time Lords are, obviously, lords of time. They have the technology to travel through all of time and space and can seemingly live on forever. They have superb mental powers, such as having telepathy and possibly even clairvoyant. They also have a little trick to cheat death called regeneration.

Regeneration is when a Time Lord completely reboots their body when they're dying to gain a new face and personality while maintaining their memories. However if a Time Lord is killed before their regeneration is complete, they are as good as dead. Within a certain time limit (I believe it's 10 hours but I'm not too sure I'll have to recheck) after regeneration Time Lords are able to heal themselves of injuries (even regrow severed limbs). As cool of a parlor trick regeneration may be, a Time Lord can only regenerate 12 times before they die.

So far, the Doctor is on his 11th regeneration, having regenerated 10 times. The current Doctor is played by Matt Smith, and his three companions, Amy, Rory, and River, are played by Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, and Alex Kingston respectively.

Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi show, having over 32 seasons and overall over 700 (almost 800 last I calculated) episodes and a movie that aired in 1996. The show originally aired in 1963 which ran until 1989. The show was then rebooted in 2005 and continues to run today. It is also the most successful sci-fi series of all time.

This thread is to discuss Doctor Who; what you love about it, your favorite Doctor, favorite companion, songs you like, moments you like, and possibly even spoilers as the 7th season approaches within the next few weeks.

I will try my best to update this thread with news as it comes out. If you see something that I don't then feel free to post it as well!

So yeah go free my little Whovians!

What we know about series 7 so far.

Alright, so I'm just gonna say this: Donna is my favorite companion, with Rose as a VERY close second. Catherine Tate is a brilliant actress/comedian. I hope to see her return in the 50th anniversary.

So they're going to tell us who's the 12th doctor on Sunday! I can't wait!! I've no idea who it could be!

Can't wait to get up at 6AM in November to watch the 50th anniversary special. Lol.

I usually only get up at time for a New England Patriots game or when I go to Melbourne.

As you all know, the twelfth Doctor will be announced tomorrow. I felt like sharing this little tweet from a certain Supernatural actor, who posted this morning.

So, Cas from Supernatural might be the next doctor. I have mixed feelings about this.

Cannot wait for it. I'm more hyped about this episode more than I have been for anything else in my life. xD

They might be just joking.

I don't watch Supernatural, but I do like Misha Collins. I think it would be pretty awesome if he was the Doctor.

That really sounds like he could be the doctor : O Still, I find it quite weird that he could say that much before the official announcement

We got our new Doctor. Guess Who?

I wonder how Peter's 12th Doctor will be.

I can't wait for the Christmas episode.

I am cautious, but curious. Let's see how this plays out.

I can say one thing though...

The dude just... looks like the Doctor. He looks the part. I can see this guy behind the controls of the TARDIS.

That's the same thing I was thinking.

The title needs to be "The Clock Strikes Twelve" or I'm going to demolish a building.

I can see it. It'll be interesting to have an older looking doctor again. Maybe play with a grumpy old man angle.

I for one am excited that Peter is going to be the new Doctor. I thought he was great in the UK version of Skins and he never puts in a bad performance in any of the other roles he has.

I think Matt over stayed his welcome hides from the fangirls and it's time for a change.

I was telling Xaon that the new guy looks like an older David Tennant . xD

I really have positeve expectations of the new doctor. Can't say what it will feel like when he's acting him and how he's acting him, I'm sure it'll be weird at first anyway (it was with both ten and eleven), but like someone said, he really LOOKS like a doctor and I'm glad his not too young.

Can't beat David Tennant.

Wait a sec, wasn't he in Fire in Pompi (Doctor Who season 4) & Torchwood: Children of Earth?

Yes, yes he was.

Is it bad, that I find the Twelve Doctor still attractive?

And how will they explain his appearances in Torchwood and the Fires of Pompeii?

I don't think it really needs to be explained.

This never was.

And Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones) playing "Adeola" at the end of season 2, the season before she comes on as Martha.
