Posted September 18, 201411 yr Say, a girl only just turned 16, and she's dating a 14-year old boy, why is it suddenly considered werid when it was fine when she was 15 a day ago? If they're mentally the same age, why do people have to be all mean about it...
September 18, 201411 yr I have to share a fabulous quote that explain a lot of things nowadays : People fear what they cannot understand , personnaly i'm not shocked at all Edited September 18, 201411 yr by Caracool
September 18, 201411 yr It just depends on what stage of life you're in While attending grade school as a student, it is seen as odd when those who are essentially children date other "children" who are either more or less 'developed'/have had more education, the example being a Senior dating a Freshman When you're an adult in the working world, however, since it is universally accepted you went through your schooling and have gained valuable knowledge and life experiences, society is more accepting where a 34-year old dates a 24-year old When you're a kid/student/young adult you're still maturing/learning so dating remotely out of your age range is seen as odd, but if you were to date someone outside your age range upon becoming older it is more acceptable as you're done with your primary development and education (as technically the 34-year old could have been a Senior when the 24-year old was in 2nd grade)
September 18, 201411 yr There was a status about a month ago discussing that. Girls usually date up in age. People find when a girl dates a younger guy that is a sign of immaturity. Immaturity== good in some people's opinion. Teen ages are fickle because people change a lot. What if she continues to date him when she is 18 and he is 16/17? Some states find that as rape if they are having sex even if there is consent. There is more to it than that.

At the topic, in my opinion it's fine. Most people I know date a couple of years younger.
September 18, 201411 yr It's probably just because people consider 16 to be such a bigger number than 15. For example, the difference between the numbers 14 and 15 is immeasurable compared to the difference between the numbers 15 and 16. This doesn't make any sense, but it still happens anyways.
September 18, 201411 yr When we see someone's age, we don't see when their birthday is. For example as of right now I'm 23. Just hearing that, you don't know whether I just turned 23 or am 23 and a half. The truth is I'll be 24 in three weeks. Also, a birthday doesn't really change anything. People need to use their brains.

People need to use their brains. Agreed. People seem to make a big deal when someone just turns 30, and I get that, but they're exactly the same as the were as a 29 year old. People seem to expect someone to suddenly change and it's pretty nonsensical in my opinion.
September 18, 201411 yr Well, when people see 14 and 16, they are likely to automatically assume you're 2 years or more apart, not the other way around. Regardless, it's best to ignore people like that. Age is a measurement of time you existed on the planet, and should not be used to restrict how you interact with others. Pedophilia is one thing, but to complain about a couple of teenagers who like each other, it's just plain stupidity. I don't know if this is about you or someone you know, but I hope whoever it is can get past these issues, or at least get them to shut up about it when they're/you're around
September 18, 201411 yr People shortcut age milestones in their heads--the sweet 16, 18, 21, or whatever depending on where you live. By so-and-so age you'll be ready for so-and-so thing, even though it doesn't makes sense from a practical standpoint. I don't think one is now prepared to learn to drive just because 24 hours ago they were 14 and now they're 15 (feel free to change these numbers if your laws are different). That's really all they are: shortcuts blown out of proportion.

September 19, 201411 yr I... don't think it's weird at all.... I guess it all depends on the person's point of view In my opinion, age really doesn't matter. (Unless it's those extreme cases, like the worst offender: pedophilia) Person A likes Person B, and B feels the same about A? Alright! They want to date? Alright, go for it!
September 19, 201411 yr These types of things are largely dependent on someone's own personal views. I personally don't find that weird (Well, I find dating at 14 weird, but that's beside the point), but some people might think it is for whatever personal reasons they have. I honestly think I'm too young to be dating, and I'm 17. That just goes to show how different people all have different viewpoints when it comes to the subject.
