I agree. But according to the plot and game files which say Riku and Kairi are best friends. That means they are best friends. Even when not shown on screen.

Yeah, but I don't see the difference between this and reading a book, personally

I show you Kairi and Riku acting as best friends or I tell you that they're best friends.

The conclusion: They're best friends.

no need. i got it the first time, and our opinions differ, i want interaction between the two and see that they are friend just as much as sora and riku or sora and kairi, and you are ok with just reading it and not seeing. and i understand that. better?

No.

Very good point. Now that I think of it, there were few interactions between Riku and Kairi at all. Except maybe in KH1, but even then, they didn't connect face to face.

No.

Umm, yes.

There's a difference between having a distant voice inform you of something as fact, and actually having occur within the context of the story itself so that the audience can see it and interpret it themselves as being fact. It's the difference between someone just explaining something, and actually telling a story.

oh then, then what am i missing? care to enlighten me?

Nothing.

Yes

very much

you can't just tell the audience something off screen and expect them to be emotionally invested. Thaty's now how good characters work. If Riku and Kairi really do mean a lot to each other, then SHOW it, relegating it to something we're simply told tells us that it's not important enough to be shown

There is a HUGE difference between some text telling me Riku and Kairi are BFFs and them actually sharing screen time and having actual chemistry.

I always just thought of it as simply different ways to tell the story to the audience

By the logic hatok said, a books story isn't important unless it has pictures O_o

Any kind of canonical information, regardless of in which media it is presented, has equal importance.

That's not remotely what the logic of the statement dictates.

It's saying that within the story itself, the interaction between characters should be developed enough so that the audience can understand their relationships to one another, and not require a fourth-wall breaking voice to dictate the character's relationship to the reader.

it's not about being text, it's about whether that text is saying "Riku and Kairi are great friends" and Kairi and Riku actually sharing scenes that show that they're friends

I've never really though about it,but its true that Riku and Kairi don't really seem to be friends all that much. Its like they hang out together only because they are both Sora's friend.

Kairi and Riku don't have scenes that show their friendship....well ok we will just ignore these then

(it starts at 1:17)

Yeah if you ignore these scenes it would seem like Riku and Kairi are not friends but when you look at these it shows that they are friends!

Thank you ! Came in here to post these and you already did it ! Yes they definitely have shown they are friends. Some could argue there could be more bc Kairi doesn't get the screen time she deserves to show this more but it's definitely shown .

They're tight enough. Let's focus more on Riku being a badass and Kairi becoming a badass (hopefully).

Yeah, I think it'd definitely be interesting to see more scenes with Kairi and Riku. I know they're best friends, but yeah, I'd like to see at least few more scenes that show their relationship development.

Yeah I could say they are more then friends or best friends I can kinda feel a little brother sister thing with them.
