I have no clue if anyone's asked this because it seems like it could be a common question. I also have no clue if this would offend anyone or not, which I hopefully don't think it will but... What does Sora believe in at a religious stand-point if any? He's obviously seen the Olympus Gods, but at the same time, it's also gestured that he celebrates Christmas. What do you think about this? Again, don't know if anyone's asked, and I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but it's just a question I'm asking. Thanks for reading.

Hmmm.... That's an interesting question. Maybe he just wants presents, so he's a bandwagon hopper!

Haha! That actually made me laugh.

Maybe Christian, although the games don't explain it, or the writers could have just done that so Sora gets involved with Christmas

Nourma has made us pondering once again.

True but I think he did it as Christianity is a very common religion and believe it or not, people would take offense to Sora being Jewish or a Atheist

But wouldn't that same affect go to people who are Jewish/Atheists be offended if he did celebrate it? Not to mention 2 of Disney's well known icons ( Donald and Goofy) were also gestured to celebrating Christmas and that could go in the same affect towards Disney themselves.

Yeah your right about that, though it's better offending the minority than the majority, Because I'm Catholic and Christians have around the same view, Americans/Europeans mostly go by these religions, unless there is other religions that I'm not aware of that are also popular

He believes in Santa Claus. Santa Claus is the only deity he needs, apparently.

I'm so confused at this point.

So Santa could be an Olympus God? I'd love to see him and Hades duke it out in Kh3.

I doubt they'd seriously bring religion into it

Copying ideas for storytelling-like alot of stories, especially fantasy, do- but not actually put it in bluntly

Also, Celebrating xmas doesn't make you a christian, dude. People who don't even believe in anything or have a different religion celebrate it just for present giving n' fun with the fam. Which is fine because that part of it was a pagan tradition. and pagans don't really exist anymore.

You don't need to know about Christian religion to celebrate Christmas.  Japan celebrates Christmas and the majority of them don't know about the birth of Christ or anything.  It's just from contact with the west.  I like to believe that when all the worlds were connected they shared a lot of holidays and were aware of all the mythos of each place.  After the keyblade war and the world's were separated they still held on to some of those traditions.  They even have an awareness that there are other worlds.  Considering there is nothing in their environment to tell them that, there must be something that has survived from when they were connected to other worlds to tell them that.

This is an interesting subject, and I love talking about stuff like this! So here's my take on it:Let's take a look at religion in Kingdom Hearts in general. It is true that within each world, there are different faiths at play; Olympus, the Greek gods, The Land Of Dragons, Chinese gods, and so on. But within the larger context of the Kingdom Hearts universe, (a.k.a., Destiny Islands, Radiant Garden, The Land of Departure, ect.....) the closest thing to a deity in those worlds is Kingdom Hearts itself. Even the legend of the Keyblade War seems to hint that Kingdom Hearts might be aware in some form or another. I know that might be stretching it a bit but let's look at what the true Kingdom Hearts itself is. Kingdom Hearts is made up of the hearts of all worlds. According to Ansem The Wise at the end of DDD, everything in existence, plants, animals, worlds, all have hearts of their own and that everything is connected to one another. This actually comes from many Eastern/Asian religions including Shinto, Buddhist and Taoism that teach that everything in existence, both animate and inanimate, have a life force of their own along with their own spirits and they are all connected to each other. So, we can then assume that if Kingdom Hearts is the heart of all worlds, then, Kingdom Hearts is all, and all is Kingdom Hearts. Now, what does this have to do with Sora? Well, considering all that I said, plus when you factor in Sora's role in the Kingdom Hearts story, as in him being the one who will open the door to the light (which I can only assume means Kingdom Hearts itself) if I had to pick a belief or faith for Sora, then I would say he believes in Kingdom Hearts. Even Sora himself said to Ansem, SOD at the end of the first game; "I know now, without a doubt. Kingdom Hearts is LIGHT!" You could also say that Sora also believes in Fate/Destiny. That also, though indirectly, ties in with Kingdom Hearts too. Just my own thoughts on the matter. :)

He believes in the heart. That's as good a belief as any in the KH world.

Wow, I don't think anyone had ever asked this question before, and it's a very interesting question indeed!  I don't know what Nomura's stand is in all of this, and personally, I never paid attention to this aspect.  But, with Kingdom Hearts being the source of all hearts and things in existence, we could assume that Sora's faith is in Kingdom Hearts.  But yeah, I don't know if Nomura will clear this aspect, but it's something interesting to ponder nonetheless. :)

The ramifications of Sora's adventures would make it unlikely for him to not as least question any theology that he was brought up to believe. Becuase Disney worlds are canon, and they all used to be a unified world, KH becomes a world where basically every religious belief is canon to real life. The Greek Gods exist, Chernabog exists, Santa Claus exists, Hell exists, and though it wasn't touched on in the world itself, Notre Dame at least would suggest that there's an organized belief in God in some places. Then throw in psuedo gods, like Sephiroth, and the god-like status of Kingdom Hearts itself, never mind the mythos of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Basically, Kingdom Hearts is a universe just like any other RPG universe, where all myths, legends, prophecies and rumours are true... the difference is that because Disney worlds tend to draw on real places, these myths and legends are OUR myths and legends

Now because KH is a kid's game, we're not going to see Jesus, it's only okay to profane the Greek Myths, not the myths that many people still believe in

oh yeah, far be it from DISNEY to have any religious themes in their movies, they never do that

Eh He really doesn't need to believe in anything. He's a video game protagonist. It's not needed tbh.

Hey, video games characters are characters too! They can have theologies!

Nah, not the disney side, I meant square enix, whenever they use religion it's a completely made up religion/god(s)

except summons

Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, Odin, all real gods

Almost all the names for generic enemies and bosses are drawn from real world mythology, there are plenty of gods out there, FF only makes up gods when they need a band of teenagers to kill a god at the end of the game

and? they're just gameplay mechanics, the game isn't dedicated to the religion

The names of designs of summons aren't gameplay mechanics

Quite frankly, no game worth your time is dedicated to religion

He believes in hearts

He believes in Kingdom Hearts. The one who is really behind everything.and its Physical Form is Nyan Cat
