Which video game should I buy for summer?

Posted

So when summer vacation comes for me I'm going to get back to gaming because right now I have my exams and can't find any time

(today is my day off).

I have a list of games that I find interesting and I would like to ask which one is going to keep me busy and give me the most fun.

I know I'm supposed to be able to decide what I want for myself but the problem is that I want every game on the list equally but since I don't know much about them I want to ask your opinion.

So which one of these is the most fun and is going to keep me busy for some time?

  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3) 20€ (used) 40€ (new in case I can't find a used one) - [3 votes]
  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (3DS) 50€ (new) - [1 vote]
  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) 7€ (used but not sure if they have it) - [3 votes]
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PS3/PS store, PS2 Classic) 10€ - [3 votes]
  • Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (PS3/PS store) 11€ - [0 votes]
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition (PS3) 60€ - [2 votes]
  • Bravely Default (3DS) Around 50€. (I can't find the price online and no nearby store has this game for some reason.) - [3 votes]
  • Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS) 50€ - [4 votes]

Extra Suggestions: Luigi's mansion

I'd like a 3DS game more because when I leave for holidays I won't have Wi-Fi so I want a console which I can carry with me and play games at noon and nights (AKA moments I spent in the hotel).

Make sure to suggest me any game you found really enjoyable.

Thanks in advance!

Kid Icarus: Uprising. It's long enough and and there's plenty of challenges to keep you playing. It's amazing. Don't let the original Kid Icarus fool you. This game is no joke. And if you are even more interested, there's even a multiplayer mode where you can do free-for-all or light-vs-dark, online and local wireless.

Or if you want something a little less challenging (But still Pretty intense) try Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. It's almost as great as Kid Icarus Uprising, where (If you haven't played the original Luigi's Mansion, this might be new to you) you suck up ghosts and collect gold, so much gold, and you fight through many Mansions in the Main game, or if you think you are ready, you can try the Scarescraper mode where you can have up to 4 Luigis, online or local, including download play for those who don't have a copy, take on multiple floors trying to clear the objective on each one, collecting gold to power up for the boss at each 5 floor interval. There's so many collectibles, it's almost impossible to get them all by yourself. I definitely reccomend this one as well.

Persona 3 FES all the way!

EDIT: (Thought I should give some reasons as to why I'm picking Persona 3 FES)

The story is interesting, the music is great, the combat...well to be honest the combat in the modern Persona games hadn't been perfected by this point so it can become a bit frustrating at times. You can only control the main character and change the play styles of your teammates who will still act on their own. I'd recommend the portable version of the game if you could get your hands on it because combat is a bit easier to handle, but that's just me. It's still an enjoyable game despite its few flaws and it'll certainly keep you busy!

Hmm, that's a pretty tough list to choose from.

In terms of 3DS games, those are all solid choices and I would easily recommend either Bravely Default or Kid Icarus: Uprising as they are bound to give a lot of hours worth of playtime.

For Dragon Age: Inquistion, it's a great game with a lot of content to play through... But at that price I wouldn't recommend picking it up on PS3 (I got it for €58 on PS4).

This is a pretty tough question.  Out of your list I *love* Final Fantasy X/X-2 and Final Fantasy XIII, but they are PS3 games and I know that you mentioned that you preferred a 3DS game.  Generally 3DS games don't hold as much plot or gameplay (generally, but not always) because of the limitations of the data that the 3DS can manage, so I don't normally find the games for it to be quite as great.  However, Bravely Default looks really good, and I wish that I could get it myself to play.  I'm actually going to go against the majority and not recommend Kid Icarus: Uprising.  While the graphics are beautiful, the gameplay gets old really fast and reminds me of a shooter.  If you like that thing I suppose it's great, but I find it rather boring.

Anyhow, hope that helps some.  Good luck on choosing a game, and let us know what you pick!

Final Fantasy 10 hd would be your options for long gameplay and would keep you busy ( looking at you thunder plains)

I would recommend persona 3 FES ( dont get the normal one) with loads of content as well to get you hype for persona 5 assuming you arent a persona fan.

MH4 and Kid Icarus 50€? Where the hell do you live.

I'd say either one of those.

Why don't you check cheap used games on ebay. Or are you only buying in stores?

Yeh I didn't check the prices first didn't expect that high.

So Braverly Default is the right one for you if you can't find Kid Icarus cheaper.

I never played any other Kid Iccarus games, I just heard that it's a good game plus the characters where in Smash Bros so I thought I'd try and see what it is.

My cousin has Dark Moon BTW I never saw him play in order to understand the gameplay but I heard it's a great game.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XIII. Do it!

Now that I have found used ones in low prices I will definately buy it and get to play it some time after the portable games. :)

I watched Persona 4: the animation and Persona 4: The golden animation and I thought that I'm good to play PQ: Shadow of the Labyrinth but I heard they contain references from both P3 and P4 so I thought I should get P3 since I already know the story of P4. And I chose FES too because it's the same game with extras and I love extras to the story.

I'm not sure if I can find it on portable. I have a PSP but something is wrong with the battery and the only way to play is by having it charge the whole time. So it's not really portable anymore. I'll try and work with the PS3 battle system.

Yeah, I'm not sure about getting Dragon Age either since it costs way too much. I might get it once I buy myself a PS4 with increaced graphics and the lower price you mentioned.

No, I'm not a real fun of shooter. Only when playing with others can I enjoy a shooter game like CoD. Other than that I don't really play them. But I did enjoy The Last of Us which was really fun to shoot at zombies and other people. So I guess I like shooter games but not always...I dunno.

If I get Bravely Default I'll tell you what it's like and I will definately let you know you what I decide.

Dragon Age: Inquisition if you want to spend all summer. (Depending on your playstyle)

Depending on my play style I'd say more that the whole summer. I take things way too slow when it comes to games because I really enjoy exploring everything and checking everything the game has to offer.

FFXIII and Braverly Default. If you can wait for Second then Kid Icarus.

I can think I can wait for Second but if it's a continuation of the first game then I should play Default as well shouldn't I. When is Second coming out anyway? I haven't even checked if there are any trailers.

Final Fantasy 10 hd would be your options for long gameplay and would keep you busy ( looking at you thunder plains)

No I'm not a real Persona fan. I have only watched the P4 animations and that's all. I want to get into it more though so I will try and get my hands on this game.

I'd say either one of those.

Greece my friend where Video Games don't matter and if they fail in sales we burn them.

But anyway, don't most 3DS games cost around 45-50€/$. I thought that was the case everywhere.

Persona is a cut above the other stuff you mentioned

I see...Why's that anyway?

I only buy in stores. I don't quite trust the online system.

I have no idea how it works and I don't plan on using it anytime soon.

I might find Kid Icarus as a used game but used 3DS games are quite rare. Most are PS2 and PS3 games.

Kid Icarus is in the lead at the moment. If you are wondering how I count the votes I just add everything you recommend and then think what you have said about them.

I have a clearer picture right now, so thank you.

No one voted for Sly Cooper. Is my sister the only one who wants me to buy that game?

  • Author

Okay, thanks everyone, you've been a great help. Thanks to you everything got a lot clearer and I was able to decide.

I will buy FF 10/10-2 and FF13 and Persona 3 Fes to play while I'm home and Bravely Default for when I'm not home or when I can't play on my PS3.

Sorry but Kid Icarus is not something I want right now. Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing and I will definately get it someday but right now Bravely Default appeals more to me.

Nobody voted for Sly Cooper so I wrote it out along with Dragon Age since its too expensive.

Monster Hunter was the game I thought it would get the most votes and I was actually thinking of buying but since only 1 person suggested it and I lacked enough feedback on it, I thought not to buy it.

So the winners are:

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3)

Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PS3/PS store, PS2 Classic)

Bravely Default (3DS)

Once again, Square Enix triumphs. Good for them, I guess.

just in case, if you don't like FF13, the sequel is MILES better. So if you liked it, it'll be great, but if you don't like 13 it might still be worth checking out

I think you've made some very wise decisions, ones which I can't imagine you'll regret.  Have fun this summer!

If I had seen this before, I would have voted for Sly 4. It's fantastic. However, if you've never played the original PS2 games, I'd recommend the Sly Cooper Collection on the PS3. Three amazing games all in one package.

Also, if you're left handed, I would personally advise against getting Kid Icarus: Uprising, unless you're willing to buy a Circle Pad Plus or get a New 3DS. As a lefty, I can say that the game is incredibly uncomfortable to play on the left-handed control setting. I liked everything else about it, but the left-handed controls are pretty bad.

I have already seen the cutscenes movie of 13 and 13-2 and played Lightning Returns. I would buy both but 13 is the one I saw a long time ago and can't remember that much.

Thank you! xD

Have fun too!

Already played all 3 of them on PS2. I've been thinking of buying the trilogy in PS3 but my sister insisted we get the new one.

I don't believe I will ever get the Circle Pad Plus or a new 3DS so if I ever buy Kid Icarus I will have to get used to the controls.

Thanks for the info though. :)

If you haven't already, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is a fantastic game! The story is about 70 hours long on a regular playthrough

I forgot all about Xenoblade Chronicles! x.x

It was also supposed to be one of the choices but I just forgot. -.-

Then again it's as expensive as Kid Icarus and I have already ordered Bravely Default which will cost 40€ instead of 50€.

But it is also a game I will definately buy in the future.

Just to let you know, Xenoblade 3D only works on the New 3DS since it requires the hardware upgrade. There's also a Wii version, but depending on where you live, it could be difficult to find and expensive.
