Ratchet & Clank For PS4 Announced + Gameplay

Featured Replies

This game look awesome, even though i have not played any rachet and clank game before

It looks very similar to the last one, but I guess that's fine. As long as there are new gadgets I'm cool with it.

I amso hyped for this game and movie! I love R&C and I can't wait to płay this game on PS4! (Now I just need the money to actually GET a PS4... xD)

Definitely 100% getting this game. Woo! :D

I just love that it's the game based on the movie based on the game lol I can't wait for both this game and the movie both look amazing I never played the ones that where originally on the PS2 but I did play some of the Future series games and I enjoyed it so I might pick this game up and of course I'm going to see the movie as well.

Looking pretty sweet. Another reason for me to get a PS4. I wonder if we'll see another trailer for the movie soon.

For anyone that doesn't know, this is supposed to be a remake of the first one, a reimagining. It's more like a reboot really.

I'm definitely getting this when I get a PS4.

the graphics for this are amazing :O

I don't think I've seen a more 'cinematic-y' remake videogame since MGS: The Twin Snakes, and even that is tame by comparison. This is like Ratchet & Clank: The Pixar Movie: The Game. I cannot wait to play it because R&C is one of my favorite games of all time.

I do have a problem however and it's not even really a full-on problem, it's more like a half-problem. One of the complaints fans had about the original R&C was that Ratchet was portrayed as kind of a jerk. He was somewhat self-centered, reckless and towards the end, revenge-driven to the point of ignoring the bigger problem. (Drek) Insomniac vouched for the way the character was handled though because it was, really, a character arc he went through. From something of reckless jerk to a really nice guy and a hero and he's been portrayed as the latter since Going Commando, which is great! It shows how far Ratchet has come as a person.

In this remake though, I think they're kind of foregoing that and making Ratchet a really nice guy from the very beginning, which is kind of a shame. There's a point in R&C where Ratchet & Clank are genuinely having a feud amongst themselves and Ratchet wants nothing to do with Clank, but he has to bring him along because he's the only robot who can power the ships Ratchet pilots. I feel like they're going to kind of ignore that and just make them buddies the whole time, with no tension or resolution or anything and that kind of sucks.

I don't know if they won't go down that direction in some way, it's just a feeling I'm getting from the trailer and gameplay videos I've seen. It's not THAT big of an issue, but that conflict was a decently big part of the original game and to ignore it is to...well, sacrifice artistic integrity, if that term can even really be applied here.

That's ignoring the possibility that this remake/reboot.whatever could have a much better character arc than the first game, which, as a huge R&C fan myself, pains me to say, kind of sucks.

The loose vibe I'm getting from the trailer is the Ratchet starts out as a nice guy, signs up with Quark and gets all cocky and egotistical, gets tricked by Quark eventually, gets angry and revengey about that, eventually realizes he's being a dick, man's up and beats Drek. I'm obviously going just based on impressions and gut feelings also, but I'm confident whatever "artistic integrity" the first game had won't be sacrificed.

I agree 100%. It's like Insomniac threw character development out the window. One of my favorite aspects of the first R&C game was the sarcastic and immature Ratchet warming up to Clank by the end of the journey, even if they literally argued for the duration of the game. With this reboot, it's like Ratchet and Clank instantly just get along and that doesn't feel right.

Am I really the only one that thought Ratchet was an unlikable douchebag in the first game? This update of a seemingly friendlier, nicer Ratchet could not be more welcome to me.

It's more of the character progression aspect I was referring to. But in a way, I kind of do like Ratchet from the first game. He felt more free and fun rather than teaming up with the Rangers. But hey, to each their own. I like Ratchet in any form, really. That's why I buy the games xD

This put a huge smile on my face. :D

Fair enough. To be honest, I don't really care much for the story in any of the PS2 games- I feel both the writing and acting picked up a lot once the series got onto the PS3, and the reboot seems to match that aesthetic, which I'm all for. Like you said, though, to each their own.

After having re-watched it, there is a part of the trailer that makes me agree with you somewhat. It's when Quark offers him that sleek new ship, Ratchet gets this somewhat cocky look on his face. So, you might be right on that. We'll just have to see and like I said, it's not really that big of an issue. I like nice Ratchet more anyway.

This has been announced for the last year or two

True, but despite the misleading topic title, the gameplay footage is new (and amazing).

Cmon Jak and Daxter Remake!!!

Not happening. Too busy with Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us 2.

Doesn't help that Naughty Dog technically doesn't own Jak and Daxter; Sony Computer Entertainment does. (Hence the spin-offs developed by other companies.)

Oh yeah, it looks fantastic. Im just glad Insomniac is out of that weird All4One/FullFrontal stage(Although I would be lying if I said I didnt get some enjoyment out of all4one)

I never played them, what with them being multi-player focused and all, but the art style always bugged me- it looked way too sleek and exaggerated for my liking, and it was maybe the only part I didn't like about Into The Nexus (besides the length).

And how'd they turn out?

And how'd they turn out?

Poorly. Which is why I'd rather they didn't remake the game, it'd just be outsourced to a company that wouldn't do a good job. (Though in my opinion, Naughty Dog would be one of those companies, but now I'm just editorializing. :P)
