Music Instruments?

Recommended Posts

I used to play the piano.

I played it for 10 years...

We did recitals and earn trophies.

I stop taking lessons in 2007 and the Christmas Recital of 2007 was the last recital I did.

After that, I haven't touched the piano in 8 years...

I used to play piano. I took lessons back when I was in 7th and 8th grade. And if we're counting vocals I used to take singing lessons when I was a kid, and was also part of my high school's choir. I don't do any of these things anymore though.

Share your thoughts about any music instrument here! You can also share about your personal experience on a particular instrument. And what kind of music instrument you can play?Me personally, I can play Piano and Violin. Also if singing counts as a music instrument, then I also able to sing quite well

I do piano, ocarina, very little violin and I also sing - but I suck at it xD

I mostly work on compositions but I really enjoy hearing others perform

Its great to have a musician like you on the forums!!

I was tinkering the piano I didn't have piano lessons at the time. I tinkered 2 songs Perfect by Simple Plan and Hikari by Utada Hikaru. Then after that I somewhere around summer still a kid i started to have piano lessons, my first teacher only taught me finger piano exercise I didn't really learn much from her because it was only 10 sessions. Then after that my Auntie recommended another piano teacher and he canalso play the violin. So my brother wanted to play the violin. But both of me and my brother didn't learn much from him. My teacher told me to just discover it on your own. What a waste. :( So after that I just keep tinkering the piano for what songs I feel like I wanted to play. I just listen to the song and then in the piano find the right tone I need to play the song.

Currently right now Im studying on playing the violin with a good violin teacher. :) Im not that good yet but I'll keep practicing :)

I played classical guitar for about 5 years and apparently I played it pretty well, seeing as I had As on it (it was a school activity), I got to play countless plays by Sor and Giuliani. Bach were also some good mentions.

After 3,5 years of playing guitar, I grew sick of it, when I joined the music world, I was undecided if to join piano or guitar so.

Anyway, guitar is fun, it makes your fingers hurt trying to make chords, or trying to make a certain note play right. Needless to say, to play a perfect theme you need countless hours of training. Sound? Grow right hand nails, polish them and try to hit that "just-right" sound. Daily exercises to train your fingers is good.

After alot of practice the instrument becomes quite dull, but still quite fun.

I've been taking piano lessons for 9 years, flute lessons for 5 years, and I've been singing for as long as I can remember. I'm considering picking up violin, as well---it's a much more challenging, versatile instrument.

Even though I don't plan to be a music major in college, I can't imagine ever dropping music for good. My life without music is colorless and stressful.

To anyone who played an instrument and dropped it: Pick that sucker back up and start playing it again. Music is rewarding, and will accompany you for as long as you can finger the keys, draw a bow, pluck the strings, or beat the head. And there's almost always someone out there looking for musical talent, if you want to get connected with more musical people. I don't know how you forgot that.

I actually play piano and will soon be learning to play violin in about a couple weeks. Piano so far is one of my favorite things to ever exist in the history of all things ever, but sadly I had to take a couple breaks thanks to schoolwork overload so I'm not as good as I'd like to be, but I'm still somewhat decent I guess :P. I've started piano for about 11 or 12 years now, and I do not regret a single bit of the time spent on learning and improving on it :).

Trying my damned best to learn piano, but I hit a brick wall on the learning curve and now need a teacher xP

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. I have a private piano teacher to help me now and I master one song per week while working on an incredibly difficult song on the side for about a month or so. If you try doing that and maybe ask a friend who's played piano before to give you some pointers you'll be well on your way to becoming a master pianist :P. I would like to help as much as I can, but seeing as I'd be on the other side of a computer scree I'm not sure how much help I'd be xD.

Well if you're still interested in learning more piano, what I recommend you do is both try to learn the songs by ear and memorize how the song should sound and then read the sheet music for precision practicing and checking. Listening to ear is all well and good, but some songs have some really weird sounds that you dont notice until you hit the note, then you think you did something wrong when in reality if you continue the weird sound connects with the following measures and sounds good when you play/hear it being played seamlessly. Sheet music isn't TOO hard to read, especially if you grew up with it like I did, but if not it may take a bit to get used to and will be well worth it in the end :).

Oh boy where do I begin?

In this community, I'm probably the "Audio Guru." I learned electric guitar first around 8th grade and gotten advanced with it. Over the years during high school, I accumulated a couple instruments and amps (Acoustic with tuner and pickups, a yard sale electric guitar, and bass guitar with amp). I took a guitar class in high school just to learn note reading. I didn't join any bands and such, but learned how to play my favorite songs, and came up with different ideas on my instruments. I originally took TV productions in high school. After graduation, I was gonna take a Film major at my community college but changed my mind and now taking Sound and Music Technology.

Soon, I gain some DAW software (Digital Audio Workstation) a portable piano (which I still suck at), MIDI controllers, and took lessons in electronic music production at Sam Ash. Who would knew that getting an electric guitar would end up leading to my career as an Recording/Mixing Engineer and/or Producer? Despite my Hard of Hearing disability, I'm pretty proud I got into music!

That's true there are like extra sounds, besides the root of the song your trying to play. I can't do that yet though and i really have no idea how to read sheet music or note or chords.... :/

I've been playing the guitar for about 12 years, and I still do. For some years, I took lessons, but not anymore. Since I've played a lot of guitar, learning how to play bass was pretty easy, and I'm self taught on the drums. I've got two electric guitars and one acoustic. Been thinking about getting a bass guitar, but i tend to spend my money on my pedalboard instead :PAlso, my brother is a drummer, so I usually practice with his kit.I usually play in a band in my local church, but sometimes just for fun with friends. Been doing a bit of recording as well, and I'm actually heading out in a few hours to record some electric guitar for a song one of my friends wrote!

Well reading sheet music is fairly straight forward, at least the basics are anyway. I'm not sure how long it would take to learn from scratch but it would definitely be a good investment to kearn. It'll definitely feel awkward at first, but give it time and it will start to feel natural :). That's what I think anyway, some people do just fine without sheet music but I personally think it makes life easier if you dabble in both ways if learning how to play a song, especially of it's a song you're unfamiliar with.

Okay I'll give it a try Thanks :3

I can't be the only who thought about Patrick when seeing this, right?

Anyways I never was offered music class that would teach me the basics and a instrument to learn and play, till collage... which wasn't even interactive but just a brief history on it. *internally rages*

I would love to play a violin. I love hearing it, especially in video games. (One of them being obvious.)
