Square Enix has started a very stupid trend this year.

For Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below, Square Enix included 11 DLC weapons in the collector's edition. 5 of these were included in the Day One edition, but other than that there is no other way to get the other 6. You can not purchase the DLC via the PlayStation Store unless you purchase the digital collector's edition which of course costs even more than the game itself.

Now for Final Fantasy Explorers, which like almost all Kingdom Hearts games was handled by Business Division 3. They're including four popular main series weapons via quests that can only be obtained through the collector's edition. Which is only available in limited supply and is only available for purchase in select countries & territories. You will not be able to get these on the Nintendo eShop.

We've also seen Hajime Tabata talk a lot about DLC for FFXV but their plans won't be clear until next year.

With all this in mind, there's a very real possibility Kingdom Hearts III could have DLC exclusive to its collector's edition.

  • If its like costumes (not weapons since they are pretty integral) I'll be fine. Keyblades are just wayyyy too integrated into the gameplay to just give good ones out for a code.

  • You must not have been paying attention the those special events that give you a code to gain a Pokemon from the Pokemon Centers

  • "Game Downloads" still means it's DLC. Because DLC stands for "Downloadable Content" if I remember correctly, So yes, it is DLC.

That's a shitty trend, to a peak. Reminds me of the Augment Your Pre-Order bullshit for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, except for Collector's Editions.

I have no problem with DLC at all. I welcome it. But this...this is wrong.

Who said that KH will even get DLC to begin with? They haven't even done anything that screams DLC yet

We live in the Age of DLC, Waking. It's especially prevalent with this generation, with Season Passes, Regular DLC, Free DLC, Bullshit DLC and now this. Utterly Wrong DLC. :/

KH3 is as much of a candidate for DLC as the next game.

I can see KHIII getting actual in-game DLC and 'collector's edition exclusive' stuff. On the other, I kind of can't. Maybe that's just because KHIII would be the first one but then again, people who pre-ordered BBS got a KH version Cloud skin for Dissidia so it's not like they haven't already pulled stuff like that, anyway.

Pretty much. There's a lot of great DLC out there. And stuff like this could have been quality DLC but instead they pull this.

It's stuff like this that causes good DLC to be commendable, when it shouldn't need to be.

Pokemon main series games doesn't have DLC! So not every game has DLC, some do, but not all!

That isn't paid DLC and that isn't truly DLC, that is mainly just in game downloads.

Okay, but when was the last time you had to pay $20 more to get a special Zoroark download with Sludge Bomb?

And this isn't paid DLC either. You can't purchase the DLC in these cases by Square Enix from the PlayStation Store or Nintendo eShop.

Welp, at least the PS4 is region free. But yes, for DLC to be exclusive to those packs is really stupid, but depending on what the DLC is, it may not be a big problem.

Getting DLC doesn't always require paying for it. Just look at Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon's DLC.

Not all DLC is paid.

But my point here was that I don't see KH3 getting DLC that makes you spend $1000s! Because Pokemon doesn't make you pay for their stuff and other games have free updates as wellAnd why are we all suddenly on my case? I wasn't the one who posted this topic! So don't gang up on me!

No one is discussing KH3 having DLC that makes you spend a lot of money. That's not the point. The point is you can't go and buy this DLC from the PS Store or Nintendo eShop. You have to buy the collector's edition or you cannot get it ever.

Not from what I've read. All you said was that not every game has DLC. You didn't say any of the stuff you're mentioning now.

And I'll buy it anyway because I'm a tool

Yea.. sad times...

Not going to lie... No matter what I'm going to buy the biggest collection they're going to release. I'm going to spend so much money over this game...

My wallet needs to prepare itself.

*puts both hands on cheeks* OH! NO!!!! We've found the missing 0.1 that Nomura was referring to.

As long as NOT purchasing the DLC doesn't interfere with my regular gameplay, and enjoyment, then I couldn't really care less...Just, as someone stated above, don't restrict the best keyblades/abilities to it, that would be beyond f*cked up.

It is a very terrible trend to start. Not only does it hurt a current fanbase and turn off any future fanbase, but it just flat out deprives the company of money. Bungie faced a similar problem when they released the Taken King (not offering certain DLC to current players). Square probably hasn't received a whole lot of backlash about this yet because neither of those titles are necessarily big hitters, but if they do anything like this with FFXV or KH3 they will definitely face a large amount of backlash. I tend to buy collector's editions, but I will still be pissed if they keep this trend up.
