Does KH3's Graphics Look...Fanmade To You?

Posted

I mean, the scene where Kairi and Riku are talking with Yen Sid looks like something that a random fan went and made. Yes, I know that the game is still in development and the graphics will improve over time. But the graphics in that scene (as well as for KH Chi Back Cover) look like something fan-made to me with its graphics. I mean the old KH shader graphics engine looks miles better than the new Kingdom Shader graphics engine. Does anyone else feel this way about KH3's graphics engine? Again, I know the game is still early in development and there are a least some parts of the game that looks good graphically (Twilight Town, the Tangled world) but I seriously hope that they don't look like that when the full game releases.

Okay one, the beginning was KH 2.8! That wasn't KH3! And second off, I actually don't have a problem with it on the X scenes and I like Yen Sid's look, don't really have an opinion on Kairi, Mickey, and Riku.

looks fine to me.. but then again i am not into graphics as much as I am into story

I think it looks great. It doesn't really look fan made at all to me.

I think it does which is why I fixed it! https://twitter.com/SHIELD_DRAWS/status/678080752114864128/photo/1

Yes I'm aware of that. I was talking about KH3's graphics engine that is being used for KH 0.2 and KH CHi Back Cover. And like I said, I know the game is still in development and they have ways to go before they make the final game look good. But I just wanted to talk about how the graphics look currently. I know they'll improve on it over time, tho, haha.

Underfined is more of the word, which might get better before release

Yes, I've been saying this since E3. It looks cheaper and more cartoon-like. Kind of amusing since Nomura kept the exact same art style from KH1 to 2.5.

Yeah, it really looks so weird. It really feels like I'm looking at something fan-made with these new graphics. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who judges games by their graphics. Trust me, there are games I know that have good graphics but are completely aweful. All i'm really saying is that I hope that it at least improves, because the new KH graphics look fan-madish to me.

I'm not a huge fan of the new look either. :/

This is really why Nomura should have kept the same graphical aesthetic for KH3 and make a change like this for a KH4 or something, so that the Xehanort saga can have the same look throughout the games.  The environments themselves look absolutely gorgeous, but I don't think it is a very good trade off when the character models are looking very weak.  I will admit that once they got closer in on Riku and Kairi they looked a lot better, but still looking pretty lackluster.  Here is to hoping that that they still have a lot planned as far as character models go and smoothing out their animations and such.

And is it just me, or did the E3 trailer look a lot better than what they just showed?

Lol, that screenshot showing Riku, Kairi and Mickey looked odd to the, but in this trailer, they looked... better, i don't know.

I think the Disney characters look weird, especially Donald and Goofy. The cartoon like design is fitting, so i have no problem with what they're doing. Just need's more added detail to the character mode.

yea it looks like a fan decided to make their own KH3 trailer in Garys Mod. Yen Sid, however, looked pretty good. Not sure why just him.

I agree with you, although Yen Sid did look a little bit better compared to Riku, Kairi, and Mickey by god Mickey just looks the worse out of all of them, I really hope this isn't the final graphics, I felt the same way with KH3 when the first trailer was shown, I really hope this isn't what the game will look like they really need to add something to take something out with the graphics like maybe some depth.

Looks great in my eyes. But I think 2.8 needs polish. KH3 however, that thing looks amazing.

Yen Sid looked the best, but his beard looked like gray paste. Also Mickey has it the worst. He doesn't even look cute. It's like he went through a face lift nightmare.

Just needs some facial animating. Then it'll be a'ight.

I've been saying that against my friends since the announcement in 2013 LOL.

Admittedly it does look like a fan made it on something like that source filmmaker. So that means I gotta find that Kairi model and the other versions...

Meh, I can't complain. We got more Kairi screen time!

Back then it was really, really early though.

Yeah that's true though

Yeah the thing is, those aren't KH3's graphics, it's 0.2's graphics, which is supposed to get released next year, which also means they have less time to work on that than they with KH3's graphics.

(Yeah I know it's the same engine, I'm just saying they have to work seperately on both games.)

I still think they should have used an unique engine for this. I hope they make one for KH4 instead of continuing with UE.

I think that the 0.2 and Back Cover graphics look fine but need just a bit of improvement.

The KH3 graphics however look absolutely GORGEOUS!

I think it looks fine, still needs to be polished yes but it isn't bad and they still have a lot of time.

Riku and Kairi actually looked a lot better when zoomed in too, though seeing this is 2.8 they probably don't want to waste to much resources on their models.

I totally expect their kh3 models to look a lot better especially with their new outfits.

I agree! At first they said we'd get graphics like this: Posted Image

Then we got this, and we were like "okay, it's in early development and it's not in glorious 1080p HD and it's looking good".

So could anybody tell me how we ended up with this?

I mean is the game still in early development or something? How long does that "early development" thing last? And don't even get me started on KHBBS0.2.  I must say that the environments are FIRE, (in X Back cover too, imo). I think they look really good. But they need to fix those character models.

Not really. I think they look amazing.
