As of the 22nd of April, Square Enix has announced the cancellation of their long awaited title: Kingdom Hearts III. Since the game was originally announced at E3 2013, along with Final Fantasy XV, fans expressed their feelings on YouTube that day with several videos, along with there being much excitement for the release of the game and the conclusion to the eponymous "Xehanort Saga".
Development for this game however had been very tough, according to Series Creator and Director: Tetsuya Nomura, who had this to say to Kotaku in a recent interview:
- Mr. Nomura, thank you for coming.
Nomura: I would say it is a pleasure, but my heavy heart says otherwise. *Wry chuckle*
- Well, I am sure many would like to know how you are progressing with your latest entry to the Kingdom Hearts Series: Kingdom Hearts III. Tell us, how are things going, Mr. Nomura?
Nomura: Well, we have ran into a few, snags, as it were. *Dry chuckle* During development, Disney granted us more freedom than we could have possibly imagined, allowing us to explore the potential this series has to offer without restriction, so we can give the fans the game they deserve. *Chuckle, then a deep sigh*
- I see, I see...so, what are these "Snags" you speak of?
Nomura: As you might know, I am a busy man and while I like to take my time with my work, I have so much to do, at least 8 Projects a week to make progress on, otherwise Toriyama-San will force me to add Lightning Farron into Kingdom Hearts III. *Dry chuckle* I joke of course, but I am very, very busy. As a result, Kingdom Hearts III was on the backburner after it's previous announcement. This caused a...serious drop in motivation and commitment for my colleagues, especially Yasue-San, who flat out gave up due to the excessive stress placed upon his weak shoulders.
- And then what happened? Is Mr. Yasue okay? What's Kingdom Hearts III's status?
Nomura: I stopped giving a firetruck.
- E-Excuse me, Mr. Nomura?
Nomura: After witnessing Yasue-San's tragic breakdown, I made the tough decision to cease all development for the game and cancel Kingdom Hearts III. I say it's tough, but really it was quite easy.
- But, i-isn't it one of your most cherished series? Isn't it your baby as it were?
Nomura: If by that, you mean the overbearing, screaming and insane "fanbase" I have constantly sending me Hate Mail, screaming in Twitch Chats, ranting in YouTube Videos and stalking me in public just to get some extra info...I'd say you need to see an actual baby before making such a judgment. *Dry chuckle* Anyway, that game is done and Yasue-San is happy again. I still lost the bet with Toriyama-San and now I must include Lightning in my next KH Game. *Wry chuckle, then nose rub*
- My word...this will devastate long time fans, Mr. Nomura....w-what else do you have planned instead then?
Nomura: Something the fanbase will love and cherish for years to come...
- And that is?
Nomura: Kingdom Hearts 3.1 HD ReMIX Prologue of the Beginning of the Purpose of the Destiny of Sora's Daughter: Ayane, Growth by Trial. Sora is not the protagonist and he won't ever be again now stop asking. His Daughter, Ayane, will be a Ms. Fanservice Badass with intense Character Depth and best friends with Lightning Farron. Together, with Riku's Son: Jerry, they shall stop a new evil rising. That being Xehanort's Cousin: Tronahex, who wishes to do the exact same thing as Xehanort. The Gameplay will be a bastardized combination of Birth By Sleep, Dream Drop Distance and 358/2 Days and every single boss will be the Mysterious Figure levels of difficulty and Tronahex is impossible to defeat. Also, Sora dates Riku.
- ...M-Mr. Nomura....I don't thin--
Nomura: Silence, Mortal. You know not what you say. For you see, I am the Illuminati's Leader and we have been planning for this for many years now...finally, we have destroyed Kingdom Hearts III...and we can make way for the perfect Kingdom Hearts Series, as this game ending will cause a chain reaction within Disney, causing them to become Bankrupt and give us ALL of their Properties to do with as we wish..... *Dry chuckle* In the, ever immortal words of my good friend Hashimoto-San: Please be excited.
- ...t-thank you for your time, *ahem*, Mr. Nomura. We here hope to see you again soon.
Nomura: Be ready to be amazed. *Wry chuckle*
