Still keeping my pre order lol. What's so wrong with a game being a little linear? I'm tired of open world games. anyway. The new era of games has made people spoilt
August 26, 20169 yr I'm fine with this, if it was open world throughout the whole games, I would get lost, I'm fine with this.
August 26, 20169 yr Ummm "If you play through the first half and only the main route of the second half" I doubt this is gonna be hallways.

The new era of games has made people spoilt Same here. This honestly doesn't bother me one bit. I'm fine with a game being linear as long as the story and gameplay is great. And yeah the new era of games kind of made open world games seem kind of boring. Just look at No Man's Sky lol. Ummm "If you play through the first half and only the main route of the second half" I doubt this is gonna be hallways. Ummm "If you play through the first half and only the main route of the second half" I doubt this is gonna be hallways. Yeah I don't think ti will be strictly hallways like with FF10 and FF13. It will ll probably let you explore areas but give you limited space to run around in. NB4FF13jokes Yup. It's only atter time before someone mentions FF13 lol.

August 26, 20169 yr sounds good to me. it always felt odd that in most of the open world games i played, when the end game was approaching, there never seemed to be a real sense of urgency and tension until you went to a certain spot on the map to continue the story. seems like going from open world to linear could work well here.
August 26, 20169 yr If it means that the second half of the game has a far more straight approach to the story then I'm all for it. The wording definitely makes it seem that it won't be like FF13's endless corridor so that's good. In some ways I wish Tabata hadn't mentioned that the game wouldn't be fully open world though. It seems to give the haters of XV another reason to jump on the game not being a "true Final Fantasy". Good thing I try to ignore them as best as I can.
August 26, 20169 yr Hey, that's still around 40-50 hours of gameplay, and as long as it's all fun, who cares?
August 26, 20169 yr Hasn't the game been advertised as a big open-world adventure for ages? Suddenly announcing a couple months before release "Oh, we just meant the beginning of the game will be open, not the whole thing" is kind of a big deal if it goes against one of the main drawing points the game has had going for years now.
August 27, 20169 yr inb4 ppl still complain about something. Tbh still seems okay though, since it looks like there will still be some side things in 2nd half. Although the fact that they're worried people might get bored of the world while it's open... doesn't really sound good to me Ummm "If you play through the first half and only the main route of the second half" I doubt this is gonna be hallways. What if ur in a mansion tho. How will you get from room to room??? Same here. This honestly doesn't bother me one bit. I'm fine with a game being linear as long as the story and gameplay is great. August 27, 20169 yr Well, this is interesting! Honestly, I'm just going to get into the game for the storytellling and the gameplay, so I don't mind much if the game is open world or not! As long as the game is an exhilarating ride, you won't find me complaining!
August 27, 20169 yr I'm all for this. Too often, an open-world game's story gains a sense of urgency, but the world does not change to reflect this. You are able to wander off and do sidequests and chores for minor NPCs, all while some faction is off attempting to get the McGuffin. However, said faction suddenly pauses in their endeavors, simply because the player does as well. They could be sitting with world domination a stone's throw away, and as long as the player doesn't care, they won't budge. In my opinion, this dissonance can absolutely destroy immersion, and can even take me out of some of my favorite games of the genre. So having the game start guiding the player more stringently once the plot really picks up is a very good move, in my opinion, in order to avoid the standard story pitfall of open-world games. And to anyone who think this may end up like FFXIII, remember that Toriyama and Tabata are total opposites in regards to their directing styles. This won't be Final Corridor XV, it will simply be more guided than the rest of the game. Edited August 27, 20169 yr by Raxaimus
August 27, 20169 yr Thank gosh it will only be open world for some of the time. I am not going to be able to get the game even when it releases in november, but I will now consider playing it more. I can't do all open world. I don't know what it is but I get SO LOST. I can't tell you how many times I was playing Xenoblade chronicles, or heck even Final Fantasy 7 and I am just like where am i? Where am I supposed to be going? I think its just me, but its just a huge issue I have . Anyways yeah it will be easier for me if it is not open world.

Same, although entirely for different reasons I had issues with the backgrounds and models of 7, so I got lost often. As for Xenoblade, I found secret areas sometimes without even trying(even when I wanted to continue the story in order to get new party member when it was obvious who the next party member was)

As for Xenoblade, I found secret areas sometimes without even trying(even when I wanted to continue the story in order to get new party member when it was obvious who the next party member was) Birdy always comes through, it seems. IMO exploring and finding hidden areas is one of the fun parts of Xenoblade/X Besides, the game usually gives you a pointer for where to go, but why do that when there's extra adventuring to be done?

Yep. He is quite efficient And yeah, usually it happened only when the next party member was obvious(Until getting Dunban because I am not a fan of two man party and Sharla sucks, after that I did colony 9/refugees quests, then getting Melia, ) Also if there is a main-quest there is no pointer. And recruiting Melia was a quest which was where I found some of the secrets areas ) I kinda 95% Xenoblade though, only side things I didn't do are the ones that I found boring.

Sharla can be good if you invest in her. Then again I only really used her during end game for her healz XDD Weird, I remember there being a main quest pointer. (Apparently it's possible to disable according to a gamefaqs thread? Idk) Well, X definitely had pointers for most things, which was super helpful given how much world there was
August 28, 20169 yr Doesn't really make sense to me, wouldn't it be better if the first part of the game was linear and the second part open world?

I used Shulk DunDun and 7, occasionally switching the character I control between the three, but Shulk was the one I used most since his AI is kinda bad. Chain attacks are really useful in these battles, and Sharla isn't useful at these. And there is I meant, that when a quest pops up that is a part of the story, there is no pointer.

Just play X and the only things you have to worry about are not-as-good story and sometimes overly aggressive enemies :DDDD inb4 thread derailment tho lol

Especially Skells(I think that's how these flying mechs are called?) make exploring much easier. And I don't care that much for plot anyway. Though I don't have a Wii-U so I can't play it Also we were talking mostly about the open-world in Xenoblade, and open world is related to the thread, so it isn't really off topic.

Yeah, they're called Skells, but you gotta earn your mech wings B] (Also you can only get them after getting to certain points in the story so rip) I figured the thread was more for FFXV so that's why
