I need advice... (a lot of money on the line)... [updated]
Thank you for the kind words. Most of the work that I consider my best I do still have, with the exception of one poem. Lost, however, are all of the poems I wrote out of boredom, as well a good portion of my journal-like writings. Honestly, it feels like some of my most cherished memories have been torn away. What I'm going to try to do is recreate a few of my favorite poems (I don't remember them exactly, but I know enough to create some strong remakes), as well as write down everything I remember from some of the journal entries I lost. I won't be able to recreate even half of what was lost, but trying is better than letting it all disappear. Aside from my writings, I also lost many of the pictures I've collected (luckily I still have all very important pictures on SD cards and uploaded to Facebook), as well as my RPG Maker project (wasn't going to be a game I ever actually shared, but I put 80 hours into and had fun expanding it). The pictures I could refind if I wanted to, but the RPG Maker project is gone for good. And yes, definitely backup your writing. And to anyone who might be reading this, if you have any files that are precious or important to you, BACK THEM UP NOW OR SOON. Better safe than sorry, I guarantee you.

Just a friendly reminder to back up your important data. Hard drive failures can and do happen. D...
I've learned that as well, the hard way. No obvious symptoms, worked a couple hours prior, then bam, goodbye data.

I need advice... (a lot of money on the line)... [updated]
Sorry for double post, but I did promise to keep you all updated. It took a lot longer than anticipated, but tonight we've finally been able to close up this issue. Ultimately, they were not able to recover my data, and I will be getting refunded the money. The initial examination of the platters (the actual discs of the hard drive) seemed optimistic, but the company's original attempts to create an image of the drive (basically copy all the data from it) were not working. I don't know the specifics, but they then ordered parts that they were going to use to try a different way to read the platters. Again, I've no idea of the specifics of this process, but from what I can guess they either ordered a hard drive that was the same model and simply switched out the platters (this sounds like it would work, but I'm not sure if there is something about the way hard drives are programmed/operates that would prevent this) or they attempted to use parts to repair my specific hard drive. Whatever it was they tried to do, it failed. They then decided to do a more close inspection of the platters, and found that they had been scratched on the undersides (which is why the original examination had seemed so optimistic). Due to the scratches, and the failure of what they've tried, it is has been concluded that the data is not salvageable. It's a bit unclear whether their final attempt to save my data made the scratches on the platters worse, but it's a moot point considering that they are very certain that at least some of the scratches have been present since I sent it in, and that I am getting a full refund. In the end, this was a true worst case scenario. A hard drive failure on a device that is not very old, with no obvious symptoms before the failure, and no possibility of recovering the data. Luckily most of what was on the hard drive was either also on a flash drive, replaceable, or not important. Unfortunately, my writing collection is gone. And while I do have some of it saved in various documents on flash drives, the bulk of why I wanted it back is now gone. I'll survive, it was all sentimental value (thus, nothing of supreme importance, in the grand scheme of things), and while I'll certainly regret it for a time (long or short, I cannot say...), at least I tried, and have undoubtedly learned my lesson.

[Fake(?)]Please, Let This Not Suck! Netflix revives Jimmy Neutron!
Hope you don't mind, but I added a bit to the title so that people would know what the thread was about. Anyway, this could be pretty cool. I liked Jimmy Neutron as a kid, and I'll definitely give the new episodes a look. I wonder if they're going to get new voices for all the characters?

What's the best order to play the Kingdom Hearts series?
I'd always recommend release order. It's not the order I played them in, but its the one that I think would be best to get into the series and be able to experience the story in the best way possible.

Geez, the Gamefaqs boards in the FF7 remake section are so full of hate.
GameFAQs itself is a cesspool of hate mongering, ignorance, intolerance, and belligerence. I'm on there quite often (don't actually have an account), and I keep wondering why I go back everyday. Its like a drug where every trip is a bad one but it's still addicting.

Game Grinding Tips?
Well, for Xillia and Xillia 2, the only way to gain grade is to earn titles. Since each title has different requirements, you'd need strategies for specific ones. As far as I know, however, there really isn't much you can do to lessen the pain of the more tedious ones (like using each partner skill and character ability so many times) except for lowering the battle difficulty and having good equipment so battles are easier. For certain titles, those abilities that make you do 1 damage can be beneficial. So if you find a certain type of enemy that allows you to spam some skill that you need to use to earn a title, you can attack and do minimal damage, cutting out the effort to continually find that specific encounter, go through the battle transitions, etc. Have the specific character you're grinding with use the 1 damage skill, while the rest of the party is set to do nothing but defend and heal. Then, once you're done doing what you need, you can change their strategies so that they can fight with normal damage. Unfortunately, I never did grade grinding for Hearts R and Symphonia 2, and haven't played the other games, so I can't help on that front.

Are you happy that The Witcher 3 won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2015?
Honestly, I'm probably indifferent to most of the games that are contenders for game of the year for any year. Have no interest in Fallout 4 or MGSV at all. Don't know much about Witcher 3, but honestly the whole "open-world WRPG" genre doesn't really appeal to me. As for Mario Maker, while fun, I really would never have believed it could beat the likes of Fallout or MGS or Witcher, those games are just too darn popular.

Did you find all the trinity locations in Kingdom Hearts?
When I played the original on the PS2, I used a guide to find them all. Haven't been able to bring myself to get through the remix, though... I really enjoyed playing the PS2 version, but I can't stay interested in this version...

English Or Japanese Audio?
I prefer English when playing Video Games. In the few games I've had to play in Japanese (honestly, can't think of anything outside of Tales of Hearts R and Project X Zone), I just read and advance the text at my own pace, basically not even paying attention to the spoken dialogue. For anime I still prefer English, but I'm much better at tolerating the Japanese audio when necessary.

Am I the only person on this site that knows about the game Undertale?
I know it! Just beat it with the True Pacifist ending a few days ago, and have been a bit obsessed with the music the entire weekend.

Which of the following websites will you be purchasing from for Cyber Monday?
Only purchase it looks like I'll be making is from Amazon. Got the 3DS Hatsune Miku Project Mirai game. Thought the demo was super cute and fun to play, so at $10 off with free shipping, I thought why not?

What Was Your First Reaction?
Well, the first time I learned of KH's existence, was through a 358/2 Days commercial, and KH2 was the first KH game I actually played. So I thought nothing of playing as Roxas, and was actually really disappointed when I had to start using Sora instead. Honestly, the order I played these games in was so screwed up, I'm surprised I didn't get frustrated with the story. I must've looked up the story to KH1 or something. X_X Is it bad that I can't even remember stuff like this?

DragonMaster's status update
Finished Undertale last night. Not the best game ever (as some would try to make you believe) but very fun with tons of clever jokes and secrets. Totally worth playing.

Do you celebrate Thanksgiving?
Yeah. Love Thanksgiving food!

Who are your favorite KH pairing?
Roxas x Xion is really the only one I like. I mean, I think Sora x Kairi is definitely the closest thing to confirmed romantic interest in these games, but I don't particularly like the couple (mostly because I'm not overtly fond of either character). Prior to playing BbS I use to like Ven x Aqua, but now that I've played it I really have a hard time seeing their relationship as anything more than sibling-like. Never liked Aqua x Terra, and playing the game only made me like that ship less (no offense meant to anyone who does like it, though!).

14%... Yeah, we haven't really interacted much, though. Just wanted to see how well I could do.

Bravely second has an interesting idea of censorship
I understand why they did it (a lot of people find Native American outfits like that to be offensive) I have two complaints: 1) With the graphic style that BD has, I really don't see a point to making costumes less revealing. The character models are not really that realistic. 2) I really don't like cowboy/girl outfits or hats, so I prefer the original costume. This isn't really a surprise, the original BD had some costume alterations when it came overseas as well. Was kinda funny in the case of the Bravo Bikini, they made such a big deal about it in-game and then the edited version wasn't even very revealing. X_X

What was your favorite Kingdom Hearts manga-game piece?
The Days one was my favorite. I felt it had the perfect pace for the story, and gave each Organization member a ton of character. It was also hilarious and cute. That said, I haven't started the KH2 manga yet. Wanted to wait until the last volume came out in the states.

KH13 memes/ongoing jokes
Man, I remember a really old one back from when I first joined. It was about Cella's pants or some such. Can't remember it very well, and it's been years since Cellar Door has even logged in. Otherwise, all the ones I remember I've already seen in this thread.

Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U & 3DS
Most of my friends don't play video games, sadly, and of those that do, the one who likes Smash is going to college in another state, and the rest don't really care for Nintendo games. My brother is really the only one I have to play with. I mean, I can have a lot of fun with the game playing by myself (especially since the amiibo can be both challenging and hilariously stupid at the same time), but it's nice to play with someone else too (this is the only mutliplayer game my brother and I really play together, as he doesn't like Mario Kart too much). *Sigh* I'm sure he'll get over this particular instance in a couple of days, but I know he'll never want to do team battles again. X_X I always thought 8-player was a bit too chaotic, it was only tonight when I discovered how fun it could be. Unfortunately, in the case of Online play, my internet is pretty slow, and it has to be a really good day for Smash to not lag. X_X Also sucks when I want to play Splatoon, since the entire point of that game is online.

rate my gaming list for christmas
That's a pretty good list, in my opinion. You've got every game I would recommend on the WiiU. Mario Kart 8 and Smash are great fun, and Splatoon is one of the few shooters that I've actually liked. I think you'll be very happy with that list.
