There are a few Anime series that I could see appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3. Soul Eater and Bleach being two of them. Sword Art Online being another. What do you think? Do you see a possibility of Anime in Kingdom Hearts, and if so which series and why?

I see no possibility of anime in KH3 at all. None are owned by Disney and they give the green light in regards to what worlds go in or not. Anime has no shot of getting in.

correct me if I am wrong but isnt there some way some of the studio ghibli movies could get in? I know disney dosent own the rights to them but it was disney who cooperated with them for the distribution in the united states I have of course no idea how the inner workings of entertaiment companys work but would it not be possible for them to make contact with the ghibli guys and just ask? and also since the stuio has been (sadly) closed would it not be a good Idea for ghibli to agree to this? I mean it will probably not ressurect the company but it would draw some attention to their films.

No, Disney just has the rights to the dub and distribution

They don't have the rights to the actual property

It would be nice if they could do it but unfortunately, it's like with licensing rights for manga and anime in general. They have the right to distribute it but not use it beyond that, especially not allowing it to be used by other companies.

 

I don't think it would be a bad idea to grant access to it but I doubt Disney has an interest in promoting any other works beside its own property. They allow it for FF and TWEWY because SE develops the games, but taking in other companies would also mean paying them.

Tbh, I have no idea about law, especially not Japanese law but I'd be careful with the word owned. This all depends on the contracts they made because even if SE is publishing them, they're not the creator of those mangas. There are people behind that who weren't employed by SE to create that manga as far as I'm aware but those mangaka applied to have it published. Depending on the contract, they may have the right to publish it but not do anything else with it. Or the author sells the entire thing to them and they're free to do however the please. But if I was an author, I'd never do that. It's really hard to tell how much freedom they have with a certain property and which restrictions apply.

Probably because they still need the permission from the people who own the idea. It's the same with Tarzan, which was removed in later games because Disney did not have all rights to do whatever they wanted with it.

A valid point, one that I didn't think about obviously lol. However, even though Square Enix didn't create the series I listed, just published them. Square Enix did produce the anime for the manga listed above... Just like how Disney was inspired to make movies about literature/stories that Disney doesn't own, not as far as I know anyway.

I actually have no idea how that works. I mean, it would be cool to implement them but a lot of anime, including FMA and Soul Eater, are based on a manga, where there's the same issue that the characters and part of the story doesn't belong to the studio but the mangaka. So they may have gotten permission to make an anime out of it, but not a game. Though I don't know why they would refuse since KH is a well-known title and it certainly is an honor. Ghibli, however, has Ni no Kuni they're working with and I guess they're just as protective of their properties. I can imagine Miyazaki being especially protective of his works. Would be amazing nonetheless. Not probable, but amazing.

Joke aside, I could imagine that it works out, depending on the anime, and I honestly wouldn't mind it. But there's no chance it will ever happen, cause Disney (or Square Enix) owns no right regarding anime.

Kingdom hearts has been for most of its live circle about childhood nostalgia so now over 15 years since the series was born it would make a lot of sense to bring some teenager nostalgia into the mix aswell.

Well, we'll see what happens. I guess that for the next saga onward, we'll see the series mature a bit more, ya know?

Absolutely no possibility and I would definitely dislike it. (but that's just my opinion, of course)

Although this is 3 years ago, even in the next Kingdom Hearts games, anime has no shot of getting in, means there will be no Akame Ga Kill, Fullmetal Alchemist, SAO, One Punch Man, DragonBall etc.
