I have forgotten a lot about KH2 and after playing 358/2 Days I thought it would be good to replay KH2. I haven't gotten far in it yet, but after seeing DiZ again in the beginning, he seems like a jerk. He's always saying stuff like "Nobodies don't deserve to exist", etc. And does anyone else feel bad for Axel? I don't remember feeling bad for him when I first played it but after playing 358/2 Days it stands out more

Yes, we all notice DiZ is a jerk(he has his reasons). I felt bad for Axel before 358/2 days was announced. lol

Yea, DiZ was a jerk, even if he wanted revenge against Org. XIII. Especially when he told Riku to:

"Dispose of Namine when we are done with her."

Yeah, I hated him when he first appeared in KH2. I kinda got over it when he tried to do good by digitalising Kingdom Hearts, but I still couldn't forget all the stuff he'd done to Roxas, who's my fav character.

I thought he was awesome! He was just tellin' it how it was without sugarcoating anything. xD

And I'd be pissed too if half of those Nobodies cast me into the darkness. :/

In part he is, but he had his reasons.

Have to agree with Kishira he just said the truth about nobodys and you cant blame the guy for wanting to get revenge on the Org. when the first six cast him away

Eh, he was a jerk. at least he realized and apologized for it.

Losing close to ten years of life would aggravate me more than just a bit, but Diz had a LOT to lose. He was betrayed by his adoptive family, lost every possession he had, his entire homeworld reduced to a twisted mockery of a castle and some rubble and he was sent to a world whose defining feature is nothingness. I'm honestly amazed he didn't go pants-crapping insane.

Then again, it's not what happens, It's what you do with it. He could've turned that negativity around and strived to make sure people wouldn't have to suffer like that. If he hadn't seen Sora's example (Broken world, lost friends, still optimistic and helpful etc.) , he would probably still be stepping over people.

Or maybe I'm just overthinking things, motivation and coping are sticky subjects.

totes agree with ya

Yeah, he's a jerk. He did good things in the end. He was a prejudiced jerk but we should go by what Spectrum of Cheese said. DiZ had a lot to loose.

He only hates nobodies because of his apprentices. Tell me, if some people that you had raised as family, turn on you, wouldn't you be more inclined to hate them and what they became, in this case, nobodies. He starts out as a jerk b/c he had lost everything, his family, his world, his freedom and all he had left was pure darkness. It was through darkness that he found his way out of the ROD so is it any wonder how mean he became, trapped in ROD for at least 5 years? But even then, he still acted on behalf of the light and he later redeems himself saying that maybe he was wrong and helping Sora and his friends, even Riku. He acknowledged all his mistakes and apologized for them proving that he was a good man in his heart and was willing to give up his life for the greater good by using his machine in a futile attempt to encode Kingdom Hearts to stop Xemnas.

he might be a little rasistic for nobodies and have likings of putting research to peoples but without him xehano´rt wouldnt have created nobodies and organisation and emblem heartless.

I don't think he's a jerk. He's like the crazy step dad. P.O. him and he'll do anything to get you, even if that means causing someone tremendous amounts of agony and confusion, causing a 15 year old to take on the form of the being whom he despises the most, and pressuring an innocent girl trying to help a dear friend..... Yeah, he's a bit of a jerk.....

He's racist towards Nobodies. (He's a jerk.)

tutti frutti. Myself, similar to Keyblade King 12, have a grudge against DiZ due to him treating Roxas like dirt.(Mostly since Roxas is among one of my favorite characters of the series.) On top of that, he tried to "use" Riku as though he created his own org. XIII to get revenge and disposing of Namine. With this just being me, I thought he was gone for good until the secret ending of BBS, where he was still alive. But other than that, I hope we see the last of him after the Xehanort saga, let alone BBS. As some may assume DiZ/Ansem the wise is one of my favorite least favorite characters.

DiZ being a jerk is one of his best and most defining qualities, he is awesome.

DiZ had his reasons.

What the original Org. XIII's somebodies did to DiZ was more of a jerk move, IMO.

of course he's a jerk, next question please.

He's racist towards Nobodies. (He's a jerk.)

Wait......are beings that aren't supposed to exist even considered a race?

Yes but he kind of made amends.

I think the set-up of DiZ as a jerk is something of a trick. The opening of KH2 presents Roxas as your average, everyday protaganist, and DiZ's attempts to screw with him, of course, seem to make him look like a villain. The story wants you to think of this as a classic narrative (good guys vs. bad guys) in order to set up for the bait-and-switch when it turns out Roxas isn't the hero of the game at all. DiZ is more of a tool to make the player feel extra sorry for Roxas and relate to him more in the short time you have with him. This idea of DiZ's "jerk" nature being present solely to put Roxas over is made more clear the next time we see him with King Mickey, in which all of his more negatvie mannerisms are dropped altogether. He's not a jerk anymore because the story doesn't need him to be one.

Also, the rest of the game doesn't do him a lot of favors. He's clearly undergone a personal tragedy and loss greater than most of the characters, but we not only don't get to see this events unfold, we also don't get to see DiZ again until the end of the game, and thus don't get to have the same level of understanding and emotional attachment as we did with Roxas. Had more effort gone in to developing his character on screen, I think his motivations and mental standing would have beenput across much better.

I think the idea of DiZ being a jerk is more because of our sympathies being with Roxas and his tragedy, rather than Diz actually doing anything wrong.

Good analysis
