Even though it's a fact only I and maybe 2.5 other people on the internet will ever support this club, I felt I'll make it, anyway.

 

This is for the select few people who, like me, have a distaste for shipping in the Kingdom Hearts fandom. Shipping's everywhere in every fandom, but KH is among the worst I've ever seen. Maybe you just don't like most of the pairings. Or maybe you support a few of them, but you're just so sick of the prevalence of it--the shipping wars, the need for every character to be paired up, the assumption that no dynamic is ever, truly meaningful unless kissing's involved--that you've decided to give the practice the middle finger, even if only temporary.

 

It'd be nice to read fanfics with my favorite characters that didn't insist on shipping them, like there's no point to being close if they're not going at it like rabid dogs. It'd also be nice to read fics that didn't revolve around romance somehow. Question to fanfic readers and writers: how often do you see plots where romance takes a back seat to the story? Not that many in comparison, especially with all the high school AUs that take away everything remotely interesting about the source material and butcher the characters into unrecognizable shadows of their canon selves, in order to get them paired together.

 

(Okay, so all fandoms in existence do the high school thing, but KH is particularly bad about it. I don't have any problem with it at all, I do it myself, but c'mon people! You an have a KH high school AU and have a story that centers around something else and still keep the characters' personalities as intact as you can AND find a way to include Disney, hearts, magic, and other things that make the franchise what it is. But my point is that most fanfic "plots" are nothing more than framing devices to get one's pairing of choice together, and high school AUs just make it easier to do that.)

 

*ahem* So yeah, to the 2.5 people who'd ever join this club, tell me your bad experiences with KH shipping. We can also watch the ensuing shitstorm that this thread will cause.

I agree! I only actually ship Sokai but, I think the other ships are all nonsense, especially yaoi.

Rooting for fictional romance to happen. Playing matchmaker with characters, pretty much. And it's all that matters to a great part of the fandom.

i shipped AkuRoku for a while (and i still kind of do), but sheesh... it's just becoming redundant to me now i'm almost certain it's the cancerous fandumb of bumbling dumbass fangirls that are murdering it for me. deep down, it'll always be a ship of mine, but it's dying down now.

 

Sora/Kairi, to put it bluntly, firetrucking annoys me

nothing against those who like it, of course, it's just a ridiculous pairing to me

like it's so cheesy and cookie-cutter that it makes me want to puke

 

another shounen-ai pairing that is shit-tastic would be SoRiku; which again, i like and all, but THOSE FANGIRLS

but i'm not against shipping. people can ship what they want. i don't firetrucking care what they do. bad fanfiction, bad fanart, and bad fans in general will always exist, and by pointing out their flaws (even to their faces in some instances) won't change their 13-year-old girl mentality of everything. they have god-awful High School AU's, yes. they have the writing talent of my asscheeks, yes. and they are, quite possibly, in the top 5 worst fandoms of all time (i'd rank them at 3 or 4 - behind Homestuck, Naruto, Hetalia, and maaaaybe Vocaloid). but they won't change so let them do as they please. i usually just ignore them and hope they'll leave me alone.

I agree! The ridiculous shipping is one of the KH fandom's worst qualities. Especially the obsessive, crazy shippers who give the fandom as a whole a bad name. Enough is enough. Unfortunately, it will probably never go away or get better. Heck, with each new character added to the game, it gets worse.

I think we can almost all agree, that the worst is when fanfiction writers give Sora a sex change, and then pair him (or I guess it'd be called, an "it") with Riku or Roxas, or whatever the heck they do. Seriously--that's awkward for everybody!

i have never read a fanfic where sora literally undergoes a full sex-change operation just to get with riku or roxas (thank goodness)

I love you (not in that way). Agreed, Kingdom Hearts is all about friendship. People insisting on making their relationships romantic pretty much spits in the face of that theme. In a way, it's almost insulting to the characters' bonds with each other.

Most KH fangirls just ruin the series by insisting that it is a romantic implement, not just friendship. And I'm just here like "in your dreams!"

Shipping ruins the series. KH itself is great, but the fandom kinda sucks, all because of those crazy fangirls. No offense, but, it's true.

The thing that makes it even stupider is that these people have nothing to base their ships on other than silly quotes they take out of context, like Axel saying "He made me feel like I had a heart". He's a NOBODY! It's not the same as if I said it to another person.

 

Oh and that brings me to the yaoi fangirls! What kind of sick people are they?! Axel is in his mid 20s and Roxas is 15. WTH?! And apparently crying for your best friend you haven't seen for a year who could possibly be lost forever makes Sora gay too. No! If you think that then I feel sorry for whatever friendship you think you and your friends have. It is rediculous. As if every story needs someone hooking up. But people will do what they do, and everything I could possibly rant about has been said for me already. lol I have to agree with nearly every post thats non-shipping.

And I really wish that god forsaken yoai crap would stop already. Everytime I see one, I have to question where the intelligence of the world is hiding and how remarkebly stupid the person that made the picture must be.

I don't bother reading fan-fics of any kind because of issues mentioned in the OP. I'll stick to my own books and stories.

I don't really care about shipping, until the fangirls/fanboys/fangenderqueers/fanetc. attacked. So far I can take AkuRoku, SoKai (god knows how, they barely even talk to each other in these past games) and SoRiku. But then they're crack pairings, which take the most distinct characters that never met and possibly never been shown or cared for come together and make a paring and it goes viral like a disease coming out of people's ovaries. One of the pairings Ven and I think Fuu (some girl in Twilight Town under Seifer's annoying gang who accuses someone over something as idiotic as stealing photos)? I don't understand what goes across their minds. Next thing you know you have Pluto and Aurora as a pairing and spreads like Malaria.

 

Also how fangirls bicker against one another. If one goes batshit insane when she/he/hir heard someone not ship what she/he/hir ships, they go to their battle stations. The recklessly shoot their cannons of hatred at one another and enraged a 2-minute war that solves absolutely nothing and walks away angered for no reason.

While I have nothing against shipping characters for fun, and even love many ships myself, there comes a time where you have to be honest with yourself. For one, the only canon-ish pairing in KH is SoKai (and even that's not canon). What you have to remember with shipping is that your ships are likely to never happen. They don't make the fandom, so the fandom shouldn't just be about that for you. Shipping is supposed to a fun, added bonus that people take way too seriously, and think only their pairings are right. Pairings are opinions, and people should respect that. It's really the shipping wars (and some of the absolutely ridiculous pairings) that make me not like KH pairings too much anymore.

 

Let's face it: KH isn't about soul mates in the slightest. It's about the love of FRIENDSHIP. So in the end, as long as we have our beloved characters and allies (and that epic storyline that is KH), that's all I really need. Nay. That's all I want, and all KH really is. Sure as Nomura said, "Imagining the scenarios that aren't mentioned however we want to," is fun, people need to remember to KEEP the fun in it, and not think the world is ending if someone doesn't like their ship or whatever. Seriously. This game is supposed to be about platonic love for other people. LOVE! Let's remember to love when we're debating with our fellow fans, people.

Yeah, but Sora knew Kairi was okay(even though she wasnt) , thinking she was safe on the islands. However, he had no idea where Riku was, and Riku is his best friend. They're total bros, the only romance indicated in the series is between Sora and Kairi. I don't know how people think Soriku is better.
