New PS3 Model Announced (TGS 2012)

Welp, there's another model of the PS3 coming our way. It comes with a slightly different design, about a quarter of the weight and volume removed, and models with 250GB and 500GB available, but the cost of them will remain the same as the current PS3 models, with the 500GB model costing $300.00, and the 250GB model costs $269.00, but also comes with Uncharted 3 and a $30 voucher for bonus content in Dust 514. Japan will be getting a "Classic White" model as well.

Welp, discuss away.

500GBs for $300? Damn that's cheap o_o

Well at least Sony is extending Gen 7. I get to enjoy my PS3 for a couple of more years!

Something other than Vita was mentioned! Gasp!

First time since the Sega Genesis where a console had 3 different models xD

Well, that's cheap. ^^

Now, if only I could actually try to save my money for this..

I already have my happy, bulky fat PS3 home with me, so I don't need any slim versions. All that matters is that I get to play KH3 on PS3!!! Although I will admit that 500GB for $300 bucks is a sweet deal. For those who haven't bought a PS3 yet, buy one, and experience the Sony way of life!

PS3 Slim'er. Why?

This is what I was thinking. ^^

The new PS3 model will differ slightly for PAL regions (Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South America)

While the 500GB version will be identical, the version replacing the current 250GB model will come as a 12GB flash memory model. Users who buy this model will be able to upgrade to an HDD, but will lose the 12GB as internal storage when they do. According to Sony, a 250GB HDD will be released alongside the new PS3.

Sony confirmed that the 500GB model will retail for A$399.95 (NZ$519.95), and the 12GB flash memory model will retail for A$299.95 (NZ$399.95).

The 500GB model will be available in Australia and New Zealand from September 27. The 12GB flash memory model will launch in Australia on September 27, and in New Zealand on October 18.

Not much of a difference, but if it helps cut cost and give more goodies, it should be fine.

As much as I'd like to pick this up, I don't use my current PS3 enough for me to actually get it. I really need to get to playing some of those games I got (Uncharted, No More Heroes, etc.)

Japan gets Classic White?

And the prices are a bit low. It's unusual.

Iphone 5 comes out: slightly bigger screen than the iphone 4

A new version of PS3 comes out: slightly funkier design.

What is the world coming to? T_T

Probably a cheap model that will only work for a few months and die. o.o

Well im getting it to have a second ps3 there for when this generation becomes old

Hmm, not bad. For just the extra $50 you get 250 more gbs. I've been thinking about getting my own PS3, so I'll most likely get this.

Too bad the only PS3 to be ale to play PS2 games is the first :/

Looks sleek, but I will be sticking with my current slim model. Hopefully they'll announce some sweet new games to play on it at TGS!

I was a bit surprised by the announcement of the 16gb model, but I suppose there are some people who will find that appealing.

Sony = Apple

Make it skinnier, change the design a bit, and make it hold more GB.

So Sony likes making there systems smaller and smaller, eh?

2015:

Sony has released a new Ps3!(again) It is only 5X5 inches!

Buy it now!

Why are they making a new ps3 model, aside from the slimmer look and the more gb it can hold, its basically the same as the other models right? And besides I thought the ps3 was heading toward the end of its lifetime for this console gen, apparently Sony thinks otherwise o.o

This is a sign that they aren't interested in creating a next generation console for a few years. They wouldn't invest time and money to making a skinnier Playstation 3 if they were working on a next gen console or planning to make one in the relatively near future.

Sony declared the Playstation 3 was meant to last 10 years a while back if I am correct. If they intend to live up to that lifespan then they are going to need to update the console once in a while, this is clear evidence that they are sticking to the plan.

Sony definitely shouldn't do this though, both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are far beyond their limit. Home console gaming is slowly fading away as gamers that are frustrated with dealing with downgraded games and other complications are investing in PC gaming which upfront is more expensive but certainly worth it.

Microsoft and Sony need to work on a next gen console soon or else they will lose loyal customers to the Wii U and PCs.

Ill get a slimmer model if they can make one that will fit in my pocket.
