Keyblades really have gotten less unique over time

Posted

Remember back in KH1, when Sora, Riku and Mickey were the only Keyblade wielders? When the Keyblade chose you for the strength of your heart, instead of just being passed down from someone else?

In KH2, Roxas and Kairi got Keyblades. Okay, we'll Roxas is Sora's Nobody and Kairi has a pure heart, so I guess these make sense. Then Xion got a Keyblade. In BBS, things got out of control. Suddenly every single character seems to have a Keyblade (okay, I'm exaggerating, but still). And in DDD, Lea just comes begging for a Keyblade, and he gets one.

I really don't think that's how being a Keyblade wielder should work. I would much rather it if the Keyblade chose its wielders, the way it chose Sora. Keyblades are awesome, but I feel like having so many people with Keyblades just makes them much less special.

Well seeing that before you posted this other people like myself pointed out there were always other wielders shown since the first KH game on you definitely aren't the only one who remembers this. Ju

Right that's exactly what I am saying there is something about Sora that makes him special. I think they wanted him to think that made him less of a Keyblader, or trip him up. But honestly it is this power of Soras that makes him special. Didn't you hear the convo between Ansem the wise and Riku at the end? Even he says that makes Sora special. And the Keyblade didn't chose him untill Riku got corrupted, but also after Riku took it from him, it chose him a second time!

His connections are what give his heart strength, yes but it's his heart making those connections with his special gift.

Sora is kinda the protector of everyone

Way back in kh1 it was pretty special to be a keyblade weilder. Sora was pretty much the only one. Then Riku got a keyblade. Then Kairi. Then Aqua, Terra, Ventus, Eraqus, Vanitas, etc. Then the Xehanorts. Then even Lea. And to top it off now we know that Keyblades are man-made from DDD. Just an interesting thought about how the uniqueness of having a keyblade has changed since KH began.

Anyway, thoughts? Comments? Random hate towards cats?

Yea it kinda bothered me when lea got one. It just made me think anyone could have one now. Dogs rule.

Kingdom hearts is starting to become saturated with keyblade wielders, it makes Sora and Riku less unique in terms of weaponry as well.

Well it became more of a signature weapon/symbol for the series

What the heroes need are unique abilities and traits for their Keyblades so that they are differentiated from everyone else.

Well before the keyblade war we can assume that there were a lot more key blade weilders, so maybe it's not that uncommon.

Yes it's been implied since the very first game that there was more then one keyblade wielder. So I don't get why everyone fusses about there being multiple wielders.

I suppose they have gotten less unique. But they're still pretty epic :3

In some of Xehanort's reports in Birth by Sleep as well, he talks about how Keyblades were crafted by man from the original "chi" blade. So that concept isn't entirely new to DDD either

Um. Am I the only one who remembers that in KH1 Sora, Possessed Riku, Mickey and Roxas in the secret ending all had keyblades?

I usually don't mind, but this isn't the first time I've heard people complaining that having a keyblade in KH1 was like being the last of the jedi and now it's mainstream.

I just don't see the validity of the argument.

I agree.  It's one of the many things that tick me off about the fandom.  There's a reason why those people can wield.  Plus, how are we going to have a lights vs. darkness battle with one keyblade.

2005: Sora is the chosen one. Chosen by the keyblade

He still is.  If you remember he's the only one who is able to wield without being chosen by someone else.  No one chose Sora.  The keyblade needed to find another wielder and it chose him.  He was chosen by his keyblade.

Oi, this again.  The more I read these arguments, the more I think the people saying it are acting like hipsters, decrying keyblades as "mainstream" and "they're not special cuz more than one person has them!"  What does it matter if people besides Sora have a keyblade?  They're still significant to the storyline.

That doesn't matter when Nomura confirmed Sora was the only one who was chosen without a ceremony.

if u remember the fight with xemnas in DDD he says "I know the keyblade didnt choose me i dont care im proud to be a part of something bigger the people it did choose"

He's refering to the fact that no one gave him the ceremony . He was still chosen at the end of the day by the keyblade however. It straight up chose him over Riku permanently by the end of KH1 and is why he can wield his own keyblade while riku got his own later eventually.

true that

I find it cool to figure out badass keyblade wielders by time

Keyblades are unique because of the qualities a person's heart must have to wield one, not because of the number of wielders there are. As long as we see that people like Jack Sparrow can't hold one for more than 5 seconds, it will continue to be a unique power.

Lol Sorry I didn't read all the posts above. I guess I'm not alone.
