Disney are shutting down their LucasArts games publishing subsidiary, according to a Game Informer report. A LucasArts representative informed the website:

 

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

 

Meanwhile, Kotaku report that Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault, two LucasArts games that were in development, have been cancelled, and around 150 people laid off.

Wow I hate disney even more now.

Well I thought Disney would do Star Wars justice... looks like they just tainted it.

The more I think about this the angrier I get. This didn't have to happen, and isn't inspiring confidence in Disney's ability to respect the properties they bought but didn't create.

As much as I hate to admit it, I am not suprised I had a feelinjg Disney would not handle Star Wars that well. But to see it in action is even more disheartening!

What a terrible move made by Disney. WTF?!

I was really hoping for 1313 to come out as something awesome (And maybe even Battlefront 3)...but now...Disney is kinda losing my trust when they're destroying perfectly good companies.

Guys, the economy is in a bad state right now, and the gaming industry is hurting.  We're probably going to see more lay-offs in other industries if this doesn't get any better.  It's not like companies want to downsize but they will if it means saving it from going completely under.  You can scream at Disney all you want but I highly doubt this problem is so simple we can point fingers as Disney unlike SE's new president

I had no interest in a StarWars shooting game. I don't really like shooter games though.

But the movies are going to cancell also I guess. Now it is sure that there is no StarWars for Kingdom Hearts .

Wow. This is quite disappointing. They should of consider that before purchasing LucasArts.

Calm down, everything will be okay. We should still get Star Wars 1313 along with other Star Wars games in the future.

 

So yeah, Disney has shut down the studio this morning. About 150 workers were laid off. Current projects like the upcoming Star wars games, 1313 and first assualt, have been cancelled. Disney is to be said to still use the name to license games, but the studio is no more. To tell you the truth, I hate it Disney has done this. I was looking forward to 1313.
