Kingdom Hearts was supposed to be about childhood dreams, which usually means being devoid of certain responsibilities and anchors, and making further reference to their parent figures sort of limits what they can get away with. It makes the adventuring much harder to justify, as opposed to just leaving it vague.

We already know both Riku and Sora have parents, as was stated in KH1.
September 18, 201312 yr We know Riku has parents, because he says so in KH1 "we may never see our parents again" and we know Sora has parents because his mom says dinner is ready in KH1 and Riku mentions Sora's dad in BBS "my friends dad took us out on the boat" We know Kairi has a grandma because we see her in KH1 and BBS. And we know she is taken care of the mayor becaused...well I don't know how I know that I just do... But I sure hope we don't see them because I don't like to imagine they went up and abandoned people who cared about them. I know I would (sadly) but its different when the two keyblade weilders and the princess of heart do it. And lol at the fact that HE STILL needs to eat his dinner and vegetables. That's why he went on the adventure. It wasn't because it was his destiny, Sora left to get out of eating his vegetables. Haha

September 25, 201312 yr To be honest,they should've made them orphans,or at least make Sora an orphan Not only that one of the main themes of the KH series is friendship(which is something you might value more if you didn't have a family),but the parents themselves contribute absolutely nothing to the plot,they don't know about other worlds(except Kairi's Grandma),they don't know neither Organization XIII or even Xehanort who was a former citizen of Destiny Islands. Hell,if they even exist they would've never allowed their kids to leave again after a whole year of absense,especially Sora Riku went back to Destiny Island a couple of times when he was working for DiZ(Ansem the Wise) so he might visited his parents and at least told them something. But Sora was in a coma for a whole year to regain his memories and he never had the chance to go back to the island.So why would Sora's parents allowed their son to leave again that easily without some heavy reasoning and explanation I know Sora is supposed to be a normal boy,but why Nomura is afraid of making him Orphan?? That won't change the fact he is a boy In fact that would've emphasized the theme of friendship in the series more since it would make him value Riku and Kairi much much more. This isn't the first time Nomura designed an orphan character. In FF7 Cloud's mother has been killed by Sephiroth Lightning and Serah in FFXIII were orphans since their parents died when they were young girls I get that Nomura wanted Sora to be different than the Final Fantasy protagonist,but if the parents contribute absolutely nothing to the plot,what's the point of having them there Also,you can't convince me that a boy who can hold three to four hearts inside him at the same time(In KH1,he has his own heart,Kairi's heart and Ventus's heart),survive possible fatal injures,the only one who can open the light in KH and defeat Xehanort,connected to every protagonist in the series,managed to co-exist with his nobody while maintaining his human form,has a female replica that became giant armored final boss in KH 3582days ,is in any way a normal boy. September 28, 201312 yr Just use your imagination. I loved to good old times when nomura still left some thinking to the fans. Now he seems to get his screenplays off fandom service pages and ghibli movies. I have my OWN theory but I won't tell. I would like to encourage you to think of your own. BUT BEWARE: Nomura is sure to f*ck up your theory when he feels like telling another crazy story involving the real parents. Like Sora being Xehanort and Darth vader's child. ~ I am your father., I'm sure Disney is happy to inclde more of theor "properties" in order to attract more customers.
February 12, 201510 yr okay i read through all these comments and uh... if it was still in the darkness... how come in kh 2 kairi was on destiny island and stuff. Also i hear a lot of stuff on ansem the wise being Kairis father... Kairis parents= idk Soras parents= idk oh and his dad cant be cloud. I HAVE FACTS Rikus parents= i think riku dose have some traits that look like Sephiroth. ( Maybe a somthing after kh 3.) but who is his mom.
