Why Kingdom Hearts 3 needs to be successful

Posted

I've came up with a list of things that would happen if Kingdom Hearts 3 was not profitable. I know this would never happen, so, in some random universe where it's not successful, here is what would happen.

1.Square Enix Bankruptcy

Square Enix has poured so much money into Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV, combined with the moderate success of Final Fantasy XIII, Square is losing money, and fast. They have lost millions on the development of FFXV with it taking so long to be made. Back in the 80's, Square was developing a game called Holy Sword Legend for Famicom Disk System. The game was to span 6 disks and have a very long story. Square cancelled the project because it was going to be impossible to make and they had invested so much money into the project that Square almost went bankrupt, nothing to say that it won't happen again. They have invested so much money into both of these projects, if there not successful, Square Enix would eventually go bankrupt.

2.No More Kingdom Hearts

Like I said before, they have invested so much money into this game, but if they don't see the figures that they want to see for this game, then they will decide that the series id not profitable and forget about Kingdom Hearts all together. I know that the other games were profitable and made them a lot of money, but, again, with the money they put into this thing and FFXV, they are in a bad spot right now.

3.First Sign Video Games Are Dying Out

With a series like Kingdom Hearts, there are so many fans that are wanting this game come out. But if it's not profitable, Square would eventually go away. With them gone, RPG's won't be as common anymore and RPG's are arguably the 2nd biggest genre in gaming. And when FPS's go away, what will we go to. A lot of RPG company's would go away , which would cause a domino effect.

I hope you enjoyed reading my reasons for my thoughts on the subject and I hope I've changed your mindset on the situation.

I can't help but feel that KH3 will either be the Next FF13(dissapointment) or the Next Versus XIII(In Development Hell)

Square Enix have been very badly managed as of late

That is true but if lighning returns is a hit it might keep them from going bankrupt.

JRPG and WRPG are 2 total different things. If JRPG die worldwide(though they kind of are dead) WRPG's will continue to do well...and is no indication of Video Games dying at all

I doubt RPG's are the 2nd Biggest Genre in Gaming

Mario says hello

And BTW I don't think Square is going bankrupt whatever happens

You don't seriously believe that the fate of Kingdom Hearts is tied to the fate of the entire video game industry, do you?

Oh my God you seriously believe that.

One can only hope that Kingdom Hearts 3 is succesful, but wow, you make a very professional point, both as a fan, and as a businessman.  And it's true, RPG's are practically the genre that is most played by gamers, and if the RPG genre goes extinct, my faith in gaming will waver greatly.  But, one can only hope that Square has enough management and resources to pull everything off smoothly.  Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV will probably be the saving graces of this company, so let's cross our fingers and hope for the best! ^_^

I don't think video games would die out just because KH did bad and Square died out lol

What the hell Square make us bankrupt with releasing it on every handheld/future console.

These are some excellent points here; well done!  I do think that it would hurt Square tremendously if KH3 didn't turn out to be the success that they're anticipating, though thankfully there's enough of us Kingdom Hearts fanatics to see to it that it won't happen, yes? ;)

Fool. It won't go bankrupt if Kingdom Hearts 3 doesn't do well.

1.  Just saying with bankruptcy, Square Enix has been in the red for YEARS, literally as much as they are in debt, their losses has actually reduced by 75% this year, it just so happens they are still in the red, but their situation is getting better in fact net sales increased 15.7% – up to ¥14.7 billion from ¥12.7 billion last year.

KH3 is one of the most anticipated games of all time considering so many who followed the series loyally have been waiting for it, and those who boycotted the series after KH2 resounded in the fact that they will get KH3 when it's out and ignore the rest of the series til then.  So undoubtedly it will sell well, whether or not it will be worth all the hype, can be debated.  In a non-offensive way it's the FF games that are more SE's make-or-break-it series, not KH.

They themselves aren't really sitting in depression worrying (abridged Financial Statement from SE for the previous quarter)

"Forecasts for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2014 are unchanged from those issued on May 13, 2013..... on a substantial earnings improvement through driving reforms of business structure in order to establish new revenue bases.

Stockholders are still receiving dividends.  As long as they're getting something it's unlikely investors will drop out.  Like just to imagine this, SE currently has 115,370,596 shares out, they can issue more if they need more money.

2.  Personally from a business perspective  I wouldn't blame them if they cancelled Kingdom Hearts if it doesn't perform as well as they want.  Personal wants and desires of the individual doesn't make up for the cost of development, publication, distribution etc  As much as people feel let down you can't force people to go out and buy a game they either don't want, don't need or can't afford to try and keep it alive.  But as I said in the first point, the fact they're in debt isn't really halting them back than it would anyone else who creates video games, and their losses have reduced.

3.  [i will fill this part in later, I'm running to the shop]

Square Enix isn't the only company to make RPGs.  If Square goes bust, video games will still be around, just not with the label "Produced by SquareEnix"

Me either. KH3 will make them MILLIONS. KH2 sold 6 million copies off of people just playing 1 and CoM. There were way less fans than there are now, 8 years later. Even longer by the time 3 comes out with even more fans joining the fanbase because of the ReMIXes. They're going to profit hugely off of this game no matter what.

And Nomura already confirmed that KH is going to continue after KH3, along with the message "I hope you will enjoy more games from us for the decades to come." in the artbook. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about...

Yeah KH3 provided that it comes out it will sell alot

And the FF Games do sell well despite them being not amazing anymore

Honestly, even if the game does turn out not as well as we hoped,  They'll still make profit from the hype and loyal fans. Think about how many people play these games, now think about how many people will  buy this game first chance they get, Plus new Fans and poeple who want a new game for their new console (since the PS4 will be fairly new still.) They will make enough money off KH3 from the first weeks of sales to feel comfortable, trust me.

Hence why Nomura has made it quite clear that fan standards are really high along with series standards and that he will need to do the job right and create possibly the legendary title that it has become and spoken of.

I will say this much with the possibility of Star Wars taking over tomorrowland, and the 60th anniversary of Disneyland. It seems like a star wars world in Kingdom Hearts could happen, what a year 2015-2016 would be for Disney and another Tron Movie.

Just saying, there are a lot more RPG developing companies than Square. I mean, just look at Pokemon. It's the best selling RPG series, and it's not even by Square. :/
