IGN is bad at reviews...

Recommended Posts

... and everything else.

So, for that last few years I've been trusting IGN for reviews and stuff.

And then, over the times I discovered that IGN doesn't even care or even plays/watches the thing they review about. I mean, they gave 'The Last of Us' 10 out of 10 by watching the trailers! The game wasn't even available when the review came out!

IGN gave 'Monsters, Inc.' 3 out of 10! I mean 3 firetrucking stars! Monsters, Inc. is one of the greatest Pixar movies and IGN gave 3?... What a fail. They gave Cars 2 6!

Also, if a company gives cash to IGN, they'll surely give a good rank for that movie/game. When IGN spoke about Kh3 trailer... they just messed things up. They started to yell at Sora by calling him Keyblade Master, which didn't happen... The only thing they said was: Keyblades confirmed...

They also gave bad movies or games good rantings.... and gave to great movies/games bad rantings..

I mean, which site should I use to trust? IMDB for movies? And what about games? Gamespot? I don't even know...

Most companies are brought into the game creators actual offices and run through a box view of the game that only really shows off the perfected polished parts they want them to play before the actual game comes out so the scores can be up on release date to encourage people to buy it.  For honest reviews you're better off waiting until after the game is released to the public and checking real consumer reviews.  The only games I would buy on release date is KH (obsession) or remakes of games I've played (that I know I liked)

Reviews are simply the opinion of one person. Seriously.

But if they're put online and are public. If it's a personals review, then it shouldn't be posted the way IGn does like it's a rivew for everyone

Well, of course. The "IGNorant" joke exists for a reason.

Hahahha. Good one, love it.

Yeah, IGN is a mess. Another corporate shill claiming to actually care about what they're doing, when they're really just catering to the lowest common denominator. 'Wow, people sure like The Last of Us! Better play it on the safe side and convince people to buy it even if it doesn't deserve that rating!"

I'm shocked people still go to crap sites like IGN.

IGN is the #1 gaming website on the Internet. But that's not saying much considering all the other major ones aren't anything special. GameSpot's a joke. GameTrailers.com is just for trailers, and are pretty bad at that. The other big ones are all Japanese.

Not one review ever made is the same as everyones opinion. It is impossible to go right by everyone, although IGN seem to be one of the worst site for reviews.

That's because IGN doesn't have an opinion. The reviewers get less and less honest the more they've been paid off by the companies they support. I've heard of stories where some people got fired for BEING honest. In the end, they don't care if consumers shell out cash for a bad game because they got what they wanted.

Eh, sometimes IGN's reviews will be decent. They aren't fantastic, but at least they're better than GameSpot.

I personally just go to Siliconera, I see news there much faster than I do on IGN, and they are more focused on Japanese games, which comprise most of what I play. Their reviews don't use a scoring system, they just have an article. Granted, their reviews aren't the greatest either.

The score IGN gives to a game is directly proportional to the amount of money they receive from the publisher.

As for movie reviews, that's not really their thing. I doubt the studios are going to them to give good reviews. Trusting an IGN movie review would be like trusting Rotten Tomatoes if they suddenly started doing game reviews. It's really not their field of expertise.

However, regarding The Last of Us, game reviewers often get games before they come out. The same way movie reviewers often see movies before the officially come out. If you are a legitimate game reviewer, from small youtube channels to massive websites, most game developers would be happy to give you a copy of the game before release for the purpose of reviewing.

That's what Metacritic is for.

Metacritic is even worse. Compiling a whole range of scoring systems and diverse opinions into one number is inane and stupid. The user scores aren't even reliable as they are distorted by fanboyism and trolling, as seen with games such as Company of Heroes 2.

That 1.8 is due to Russian gamers upset with the portrayal of the Red Army...even though the Red Army as a whole was depicted very well. It was only certain characters in the story that were douches.
