Times change, so did FINAL FANTASY - Sora96's thoughts

Featured Replies

Calling FF7 a recent Final Fantasy game is a bit of a stretch, since it was released 17 years ago (which is closer in time to the original FF game than the latest). But I get your point and agree, except I haven't played FF13.

I enjoy them all personally. Most have a really deep an intricate story. It takes a great deal of devotion and exploration to really get a handle on the big picture. VIII is a great example of this. One of the things I really enjoyed about the old games was the fact that there were no voices. I'll be the first one to admit that I have a hard time playing a game without voices these days, however, not having voice over forced a player to really engage with the game's dialogue and story.

I haven't played VII. Haha. I'm referring to Advent Children Complete and how much I love the look of Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus and really want HD remasters of them.

no offence, but...

-Playing for the story

-Loved X-2

X-2 and story? ehh?

Even the first minute of FFXIII-2 is a lot better by story than the whole FFX-2 game(and so every other FF out there).

As for the  technology, for example, I thougt at first when I heard that FFX have voice acting is really good, untill I heard Tidus and his laugh, but ofc it's better these days tho(hey, we are talking about tidus here).

Wasn't his whole post practically saying they're his opinions? Why are you contradicting them?

I wasn't contradicting his opinions, just said I found it funny(that's why I said no offence...).

Also, I rember(not exatcly tho) that he said that even he thinks that ff13-2 and 10-2(and their sequels) were not needed plot wise, or somthing like that, I may be wrong tho.

No offence, but I did take offence to that.

X-2 had plenty of mini stories in it, which I enjoyed all of.

Well then, I am sorry, I am very sarcastic person.

I haven't played nearly all FF games, but, for example, I find both FF7 and 13-series enjoyable. Still, you're quite right and I think it's obvious that people who played earlier FFs when they were younger simply cannot enjoy the recent FFs  because they are just so different and don't have the same feeling.

I haven't played many FF games (FFX, X-2, Crisis Core, FFXIII, FFXIII-2)

But

I find that I loved Crisis Core, but it was way to dark for my personality. I had mentally mature to play Crisis Core.

I loved XIII and XIII-2 (except for the idea of Yuel. She was totally unnecessary character)

Hated X and X-2.

I like the shift that FF is taking. Change is inevitable; people need to realize that.

I find it odd how you consider any FF made before the PS2 era "boring" or "annoying" when you flat-out admit you haven't--nay, refused--to play any of them.

Yeah....and that's why I have the first four FINAL FANTASY games. I played them, I don't like them. They're only video games.

The first 3 Final Fantasy games were developved for the NES, obviously for the cartrige limit, they needed to focus on gameplay instead of storytelling. However aspects like music are still present on my mind. From FFIV to FFVI, History got a new way, with FFIV being the first try, it´s not perfect but it was unique, also very enjoyable. FFV became the begining of the mastery in story telling, with a world that was precious in it´s own unique way, plus it developved the job system to become the best one between FFIII and FF X-2. And Finally FFVI, when not only the story, but characters, music, gameplay and villains become deep, you could feel emphaty, you could feel rage against Kefka (That clown T_T) and you could feel satisfaction with the victory of the team.

FFVII became the graphic advance on PS, with story almost equal to FFVI, with it´s own charm... although the other episodes of the compilation didn´t satisfied me, by many reasons involving the characters development (Only crisis core, and that barely because the suddenly appearance of Genesis... meh), then FFVIII and it´s junction system, it´s good and the story although somehow a mess it´s quite deep. And FFIX which became one of my favorites because of the story, the characters the fight for life, don´t let the appearance of the game give you a wrong impression, it´s a deep, mature and somehow tragic story (kuja you little jerk).

It´s true maybe, than we veterans didn´t enjoy as much the new FF, 10 for example became more like a hallway... the freedom of previous games was damaged... justa  little but in fact damaged. However story was quite good. I´m not gonna talk about X-2. Then FF XII was good, unfortunately the story was partially ruined during the end, aslo characters weren´t well deelopment.

And so we reach XIII. IT´s not  a bad game, but it´s not a good game either. The gameplay was reduced to control only one character while the other two were by A.I., the gameplay also was stuck in the linearity and the hallway effect. Beside those two mistakes, the story is quite decent, not as good as FF IX or VI but it´s good, and there´s more to see behind Vanille. (By my belief, she was the main character, more than lightning. she is the link between the story... if you think about it for a moment... ) also music recovered some of their glory. (Oh nascent requiem and Lake Bresha but i hated the vocal tracks) As for the sequels:

Good: Story deep, and the development of the myth of the gods was quite rich and some tracks of XIII-2 and LR.

Cons: More pop T_T, lack of certain character development (I´m looking at you Serah, maybe was the dub but no excuses i feel your words false) and the near the end of the world boring sidequest, only certain parts of the story in LR were of my interest the rest ... meh.

Final fantasy is changing... no one can deny it... but it needs to recover the same shine it was on the past, without living on it, recovering those glorious stories and epic music, villains that you hate with all your heart, worlds you can explore freely in an airship (Or a car in FFXV by the latest comments) and the character development that lead us to emphatyse with them mixed with the new technology and gameplay. I want to see that in the future...

It's all opinions mate. And you can't expect them to be like the games of the '80s and '90s, most of the people who worked on those games are long gone.

It´s my personal opinion, I forgot to put that. and I´m not expecting that, if you read it carefully I meant to mix the past elements with the future ones, things are not gonna return to be the same, but they can see their past and figure out something for the future instead of fully and shiny cinematics with no deep (I´m looking at you dirge of cerberus). And by story I meant FFV forward.

But I love the cutscenes.
