Am I the only one who finds Assassin's Creed boring?

Posted

I'm starting to think that I'm entirely old-school and odd in my tastes for video games, since it seems to differ from that which is popular.  I've heard amazing things about the Elder Scrolls series, so I had gotten Oblivion to try.  Four hours into it, and I'm incredibly bored.  I decided to give Western RPGs a break for a while, thinking that they just weren't for me.

After about a year I've finally decided to give Western RPGs another try with playing Assassin's Creed III.  I was expecting to love the game since I've heard so many amazing things regarding it, but three hours in . . . .  I don't know, I'm just not feeling it.  The game is much better than Oblivion, I'll give it that, but I'm just finding the game to be slightly dull and boring.  The plot is difficult to get into, the characters impossible to relate to, and the game just feels very, very slow.  Does the game get better?  Should I continue to play for it to pick up, or should I set it down and just say that these styles of games aren't for me?

I'm so ashamed to say that I don't like Assassin's Creed III, just because so many people love it and I'm sure it's a great game.  Some of my favorite games are Final Fantasy VI, Golden Sun, Kingdom Hearts, Eternal Sonata, Fire Emblem, and The Legend of Zelda series; am I just not the type of gamer to like Assassin's Creed and The Elder Scrolls, amongst other free-roam, Western RPGs?  Is anyone else like this as well?

Your tastes in games are yours alone, and you don't have to be ashamed of not liking a popular video game series.  Honestly, Assassin's Creed III was good, but not as good as I had hoped it would be.  I feel ya though, I've lost a bit of my enthusiasm for the series as a whole, but it's still one of my favorite video game series of all time. :3 And well, people have told me a lot about Skyrim, and I've seen my friends play it, but I don't see the big appeal to the game.  Sure, it looks awesome, but I just don't have the motivation to buy it.  So don't worry, your not the only one that feels this way.  Another example is the Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty games.  They are super popular and I've never given any attention to them.  The only Call of Duty game I have is Black Ops and I love it, but I don't purchase new Call of Duty games because they don't interest me.  I, like you, am into old school RPG's, like the Final Fantasy series. (I've completed IV, XIII and XIII-2.) and of course, I love the Kingdom Hearts series to bits.  Every gamer has their tastes, and your no exception.  So lighten up and just move on to something that you think captures your attention more! :D

I'm honestly not too interested in the series, it just doesn't appeal to me enough for me to want to try them. : As for Elder Scrolls, I've only played Morrowind, and I like it, but I can see why you wouldn't like TES games. However, I wouldn't say that means all hope for you and Western RPGs is lost. I recently got Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which is an incredible game for fans of Star Wars. Just because there are multiple games within the same genre doesn't mean they're all the same. If you want to get into them, I recommend doing some more research to find one that clicks well with you.

I enjoyed 1, loved 2, Brotherhood was alright, Revelations could hold my interest, 3...we dun talk about 3... (other than the fact that it was a total cop out.)

I wouldn't say boring, but I can easily saw that Assassin Creed is FAR from being one of my favorite video serie. I really don't like the battle mechanics and I hate that you always need the radar to know where to go next, but I enjoyed 1,2 and Bloodlines,I really like walking on rooftops, climbing on walls and all the assassin stuff its a very unique experience and Elzo and a really great protagonist in AC2,he definitly much better then Altair in my opinion.

Assassins Creed is an accuired taste most IMO because you have to interested in the subject matter the games are based on. If you don't like history or are looking for a super fast paced game you're probably not going to be emotionally invested in this particular series.

its subjective. AC maybe popular, but some people don't like it.

same can be said for every other game.

so like not liking AC or other games of that nature doesn't make you "old-school and odd".

another person can be like "i dont like Kingdom Hearts or Bravely Default" and for the exact same reason

both would be ok.

The problem is... you played 3. Games like Brotherhood and IV are the games I would play the stuff out of til I die they're that fun.

Probably. LOL  xD

JK. Your tastes are your tastes. I haven't played those games, but from what I hear from everyone else, it's really fun. I'm sure it's possible to get bored at some point, but that's true with almost every other game out there. I guess you just experience the games differently from how other people experience them.

3 was fine, hush.

AC is not a western rpg franchise.

Not for me. They literally shrugged off the responsibility of having a reasonable ending to a series just because they wanted to milk the series for money. It didn't even end reasonably at all.

Why gives us a someone who's supposed to be the main character, the hero, the reason, and just kill him off for no reason at all?

The problem was you started on the wrong title, you should have started with 2, 3 is just. Ok at best, How you feel about games is how you feel I mean, to tell you the truth, i have a taste in those game that are overshadowed by Big hits, I play Rainbow six, Dynasty warriors, Yakuza, underrated things like that. But no you aren't the only one that finds AC boring, I found it boring after Revelations and i'm a little on the fence on trying 4

Oh shit. xD I had completely forgotten Desmond was even IN ACIII until you mentioned him. I like ACIII for Connor's story since he's one of my favorite characters in the series. Wow, that completely skipped my mind. Alright, I'll give you that one, that was pretty crappy.

Though I think they made up for it a bit in ACIV by giving Desmond some pretty good post-mortem sound clip things to listen to.

3 is the worst of all the AC titles. You should have played 2 or black flag

Played,2,Brotherhood and Revelations and never came back to the series

I was there for the Ezio trilogy cuz I liked Ezio's character and the historical period he was in...after that I stopped giving a shit about AC

Okay, so perhaps I'm not the only one.  Thanks for all the support, guys.  I just hate being the oddball that doesn't like a popular mainstream series, and the thing is I really *want* to like Assassin's Creed. : P  Also, my video-gaming time is pretty limited as of late, and with it being such a long game I'm finding myself impatient to progress through it.  I think I tend to prefer faster-paced games, but also just like more fantasy/sci-fi-themed games in general.  I'll probably pick up the game again in hopes that it'll get better after Sequence 2, but I don't know; it just isn't matching up to my tastes.

Thanks again!  You all rock. : )

I feel ya,I'm mostly a retro guy too,and honestly  no matter how hard I try I can't enjoy mainstream titles like AC(anything outside the Ezio trilogy) Battlefield or Call of Toilet(I hate CoD so much btw)
