Doctor Who is a British sci-fi television program that revolves around the adventures through time and space of an alien called the Doctor in his machine disguised as a blue police telephone box called the TARDIS (which stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Then along the way he also picks up companions (only the best though) to travel with him.

Though the Doctor looks human he is actually a Time Lord from the ancient planet Gallifrey (so he doesn't look human, you look Time Lord --they came first). The Time Lords are, obviously, lords of time. They have the technology to travel through all of time and space and can seemingly live on forever. They have superb mental powers, such as having telepathy and possibly even clairvoyant. They also have a little trick to cheat death called regeneration.

Regeneration is when a Time Lord completely reboots their body when they're dying to gain a new face and personality while maintaining their memories. However if a Time Lord is killed before their regeneration is complete, they are as good as dead. Within a certain time limit (I believe it's 10 hours but I'm not too sure I'll have to recheck) after regeneration Time Lords are able to heal themselves of injuries (even regrow severed limbs). As cool of a parlor trick regeneration may be, a Time Lord can only regenerate 12 times before they die.

So far, the Doctor is on his 11th regeneration, having regenerated 10 times. The current Doctor is played by Matt Smith, and his three companions, Amy, Rory, and River, are played by Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, and Alex Kingston respectively.

Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi show, having over 32 seasons and overall over 700 (almost 800 last I calculated) episodes and a movie that aired in 1996. The show originally aired in 1963 which ran until 1989. The show was then rebooted in 2005 and continues to run today. It is also the most successful sci-fi series of all time.

This thread is to discuss Doctor Who; what you love about it, your favorite Doctor, favorite companion, songs you like, moments you like, and possibly even spoilers as the 7th season approaches within the next few weeks.

I will try my best to update this thread with news as it comes out. If you see something that I don't then feel free to post it as well!

So yeah go free my little Whovians!

What we know about series 7 so far.

I can't believe how many Harry Potter actors were also in Doctor Who.

Maybe it's just me, but I want Donna to be the one to come back for the 50th instead of Rose. Martha coming back would be just as nice.

On another hand, do you think Jenny (Doctor's daughter) will ever come back. I hope she does.

I don't think it's impossible.

I really want Donna to come back too :/About Jenny, its not unlikely, as she is currently married to David Tennant. (cool, huh) She is the daughter of Peter Davidson, who played the fifth Doctor. So, that's three things right there that could make her return more likely.

I'd love for Donna to come back. She is my favorite. But I do think it makes more sense to have Rose. Plus I am really excited to see how 11 reacts to seeing Rose.

I agree with the thing about 11, it'd be awesome. I wonder who else is coming back besides David, Billie, Jenna, Matt, and the Daleks.

Its 15 days in total, i'm already at the Second doctor

I couldn't do that with any show.  As much as I may love something you've gotta get up and walk around, take a shower, sleep, eat

It'll get tedious and boring to watch show after show after show

Does that take into account all of the lost episodes from the first couple of seasons?

That? Pffffffffff! Easy! I started in December and caught up completely for The Name of The Doctor. Best 6 months of my life.

This has like nothing to do with Doctor Who but I'll post it here anyway cause Mycroft is played by Mark Gatiss who writes and sometimes acts for Doctor Who.

The Good - A screenie of the 50th trailer has emerged.

The Bad - Moffat will never have a Con Exclusive anything ever again :(

But yeah, thats unfortunate. The largest centralised population on the planet is deprived of one of the most awesome themes in any series.

From the from the article it seems like they're more worried it will give people the idea of removing power from the government and taking the future into their own hands to make a better one.

Hey, Mog can just move to China and everyone will be happy.

But seriously though...

I already knew this, they won't allow anything that glorifies time travel.  They also banned Austin Powers
