Doctor Who is a British sci-fi television program that revolves around the adventures through time and space of an alien called the Doctor in his machine disguised as a blue police telephone box called the TARDIS (which stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Then along the way he also picks up companions (only the best though) to travel with him.

Though the Doctor looks human he is actually a Time Lord from the ancient planet Gallifrey (so he doesn't look human, you look Time Lord --they came first). The Time Lords are, obviously, lords of time. They have the technology to travel through all of time and space and can seemingly live on forever. They have superb mental powers, such as having telepathy and possibly even clairvoyant. They also have a little trick to cheat death called regeneration.

Regeneration is when a Time Lord completely reboots their body when they're dying to gain a new face and personality while maintaining their memories. However if a Time Lord is killed before their regeneration is complete, they are as good as dead. Within a certain time limit (I believe it's 10 hours but I'm not too sure I'll have to recheck) after regeneration Time Lords are able to heal themselves of injuries (even regrow severed limbs). As cool of a parlor trick regeneration may be, a Time Lord can only regenerate 12 times before they die.

So far, the Doctor is on his 11th regeneration, having regenerated 10 times. The current Doctor is played by Matt Smith, and his three companions, Amy, Rory, and River, are played by Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, and Alex Kingston respectively.

Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi show, having over 32 seasons and overall over 700 (almost 800 last I calculated) episodes and a movie that aired in 1996. The show originally aired in 1963 which ran until 1989. The show was then rebooted in 2005 and continues to run today. It is also the most successful sci-fi series of all time.

I will try my best to update this thread with news as it comes out. If you see something that I don't then feel free to post it as well!

So what are your thoughts on the new series? The Doctor acts like a grandfather to Clara, keeping her safe and making sure she doesn't get killed ^^

It's been a great season so far.

What would everyone like to see in Doctor Who's upcoming 50th Anniversary made for movie :]? for me, i want to see the 11th, 10th and 9th Doctors teaming up against their "Most Deadliest Enemy Yet", would anyone else agree :]?

Maybe Chris Eccleston will be called at the last minute? I'm hoping for that. Chris had much to offer as the 9th Doctor. And I want to see the return of the Master too.

And maybe, just maybe the 8th Doctor.

 

I want to see "The Name of the Doctor" episode now...Will we finally learn the name of The Doctor? Clara found the book from the Last Great Time War in the previous episode and read his name...that impossible, lucky girl!

I wanna see the Great Time War....

What I want to see. The meeting between 11 and Rose. Rose is walking along somewhere and sees the Tardis. She stops, staring in disbelief. Dramatic camera zoom. 11 walks out of the Tardis talking to Clara, he turns and sees Rose. He, also in disbelief, drops his sonic screwdriver and stares in shock and happiness. He's not sure whether to run over because he doesn't know if Rose recognises him (plus the fact she's got a thing with his past self). Dramatic slow-mo. He begins to approach Rose when 10 walks up to her and asks what's going on, seeing the Tardis and 11. Not sure what would happen next. But I hope their meeting is dramatic, emotion packed and I can guarantee tears will be shed. Manly tears. I need a tissue just thinking about it. 

The main thing I want to see is the interaction between 10 and 11. Not all regenerations of the Doctor have gotten along. It'll be fun to see how they mesh together.

Well, the 10th doctor bumped into the 5th (Time Crash), so accident could work. Previous times the Doctor has met himself, the other Time Lords had a hand in it, so that's out as a possibility.It is also possible that it is the human/Time Lord copy of the Doctor who's with Rose in the other dimension (Journey's End).

Sylvester and Paul have to be my favourite classics. But overall the 10th is the best All the Doctors are amazing though. If I had to choose a second modern favourite it would be the 11th but I still love the 9th because you know he's fantastic.
