Sonic Boom 3DS/Wii U Seems To Be Pretty Bad

Posted

So recently Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric/Shattered Crystal came out. And man the game seems to be really terrible from what I've seen from game walkthroughts/let's plays, reviews, and opinions. A lot of people are saying that this game is as bad as Sonic 06 and are even comparing it to it. And you know something is wrong when you compare something to Sonic 06. But I can see why Sonic Boom is getting a lot of hate. The gameplay looks really repetitive to the point where it makes the Werehog combat in Sonic Unleashed look better. The models do not look polished at all. They still look like they could use more work and development. The stages and boss battles don't look all that fun at all. Especially the  final boss fight with Lyric which looks to be one of the most disappointing boss battles in the Sonic series. Even Cobanermani456 said that the game was complete crap in his last gameplay video of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. And I have to agree with him, the game kinda  looks rushed. I really wish BRB spent more time on this game to be a bit more enjoyable. Because I hate how the characters talk every five seconds and try to make everything a joke. BRB tried too hard to make the dialogue funny. They really did a horrible job with developing this game. It makes me glad I wasn't one of the people who bought it on launch day becuase it did not look like it was worth $60.00. I'll gladly wait until it's in the bargain bin at a much cheaper price.

Arin from Game Grumps mentioned that it was probably rushed for the holidays, which is why the game is so shit. It's so bad, they didn't even allow review copies. I mean, you're not gonna know how bad your game still needs to be worked on if you dun get people to test it out for you. You'd think former ND devs would know that much... Hell, the graphical quality is terrible for both games. Seriously, they shouldn't look anywhere near as bad as they do.

And speaking of the show...did it really need to come out at the same time as the games? Like seriously...it's the number one problem with the games.

Oh my God Sega...

Why are you doing this. Stahp. I love Sonic. Please make it not shit.

I don't really think it's as bad as everyone's saying it is... But if it is I'm pretty pissed off at Sega. Sonic needs some good rep for once.

Yeah, it's almost as bad as Sonic 06 (though Sonic 06 is probably still worse). A lot of people are saying that Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is the "2014 version" of the game too lol. And yeah, this game should have been tested out first before just being put out in store shelves. ANd should've been given review copies so people would know what famous reviewers think of the game.

While the game does suck, never take advice on a sonic game from Erin. According to him, he hates every 3d sonic game except for lost world. That includes Sonic adventure 1/2, colors, and generations

He has every right to that opinion. He knows what he's talking about though. I'll be honest, none of those games are actually as good as people put them out to be.

Of course he has a right to that opinion, I'm just saying he's always had a tendency to be negatively biased towards sonic, especially after sonic 06. Though to be honest it seems like everyone has some sort of bias towards sonic these days.

I mean, I enjoy playing Sonic, but it's never really stood out as good. The series, I mean.

I've noticed in a let's play of the game that Sonic shoes clip though the floor for no reason,it really looked unpolished and its a shame,I was really looking forward to this game even with to slow beat'em up gameplay.Shadow,Knuckles and Amy were finally back and the game was made by Bigredbutton,I've heard they have some key developers who made the Jak and Daxter games, but seeing how people compare this game to Sonic 06 is really sad.

Yeah. The entire fanbase has that problem.

At least he's playing it because he heard how bad it was though. xD

I will give Sonic Boom two things over Sonic 06.

First: The writing isn't bad. At least the dialogue. It's not as cheesy as usual, probably because it was written by the same people as the TV show.

Second: The characters actually look like living, breathing things and not just models moving around via really bad mocap.

I don't know, from what I've seen of it, it actually looks like a game I would enjoy! But this is just coming from the Sonic fan who doesn't hate 2006 that much (we all make mistakes that we never let ourselves forget, don't we? Forgive and forget. Live and Learn. You know the drill.), actually liked the Werehog gameplay from Unleashed, started as a fan of Sonic X, loved Sonic X, liked Jason Griffith far better than Ryan Drummond, Jalell White, and Roger Craig Smith, loved the "boost to win" strategy, actually likes Amy Rose, actually likes Silver, and always throws his arms behind his back whenever he goes and runs while working out.

No, I'm serious.

Really. I am.

Stop staring at me like that, I'm telling the truth.  >.>

....sigh. This happens every time I tell people this.  -.-

Boom is bad for completely different reasons from 06

06 tried to reach for the stars and fell flat, Boom just didn't try, and still failed

CALLED IT!

I told you people that the game is gonna be shit

It's not really fair to call the game shit

it's mediocre, through and through

which to me is worse, but it's still worth noting the game is more or less functional

, but it's still worth noting the game is more or less functional

That is until the game crashes on you from time to time like some of the let's plays I saw

key word is from time to time

it's about as functional as any licensed game I remember playing as a kid

Not really I've played some licensed games on the Ps2 that are more fun and functional than this

Like THIS one for example

(Note:I'm talking about the game based on the 4kids cartoon not the later movies)

This underrated game was actually fun and good back when Konami still had the rights for the Ninja Turtles games

Btw both this and boom are beat em ups with some platforming elements yet this old 2002 Ps2 game is more fun and functional than Sonic Boom

Sure the graphics of this TMNT game look like shit but this is an early Ps2 game and yet it's more fun than Sonic Boom

Sonic Boom reminds me more of this

A game that I absolutely despise

idk, I think we all knew going into it that it was going to be a mediocre / probably broken mess of a game. I think that's different from, say, Sonic 06 or Unleashed where they actually tried to have a game with high expectations, but ultimately failed in the end.Besides, broken games aren't necessarily "bad". Look at how horrible the Sonic Adventure games were, but they're both still very beloved entries.

There is a difference

The Adventure games had good level design, great soundtrack and overall fun gameplay

Sonic Boom isn't any of that and this comparison isn't really related to the Adventure games as Boom is more of a beat em up whi;e the Adventure games were more of a platformer

I haven't seen any gameplay of Sonic Boom yet, but I already had some mixed feelings about it ever since I saw the trailers :/

I might give the show a try, since I've been told that it's kinda worth it, but I'll have to try out the games before I give a solid opinion about it :)

Gave up on Sonic after that racing game.

Which one?

The first Sonic Riders was kinda fun xD

(EXCEPT FOR BABYLON PALACE, THAT TRACK CAN SUCK IT)

I tried Zero Gravity before, but it kept on crashing, and I didn't try any other Riders game after that one :/

Oh god, Zero Gravity I got up to the very last boss and could never do it.

I forget what it was called, but it came out like two years ago.
