I'm sure some of you here has encountered such a change in opinion at least once in his gaming life

Have you ever played a game that you didn't realize it's terrible until years has passed after the first time you've played it?

I do have a couple of cases like this but I'll mention two of them at least:

*inb4 I get shot and  accused of bitching about FF and Sonic a lot*

I can't even believe that once in my life I used to like this piece of shit right here. It's mostly because from 2005 up to 2009 I was at the height of my Sonic fanboyism where I used to be one of those annoying fanboys you now used to see within the Sonic fanbase where I bought everything and anything Sonic regardless of how bad it is heck I missed on Pokemon xD Gales of Darkness(firetruck me I hate myself for leaving it for this..............)just to get this game

And right after I started to fall from the Sonic series after I played the disaster that is Sonic 06 on my 360 in 2009.....I decided to replay the game to see if it's still within my range of good memories of Sonic...............pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft yeah that didn't last very long before I felt absolutely bored to death just after getting the first ending(you need to get 10 to unlock the real ending btw). And then I noticed the shit controls, the awful level design, the ugly visuals and the unbelievably stupid and incoherent story. After this and 06 I couldn't believe things can get any worse than this.............................until Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric happened.

While this isn't as bad as Shadow the Hedgehog(the game) it pisses me off more for so many reasons

Back 2010-2011 in the first forum I've joined I used to be a staunch defender of Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2.So much so I was so stubborn, ignorant and childish in the way I defended it to the point it caused some people to leave that forum because of me(and I still feel very guilty to this day because of that)....you won't even believe the embarrassing degrees I went through due to me being a massive Square fanboy(I admit I was...like I really do and I really need to get this off my chest) to the point I loved them even more than my actual favorite game company(which is Nintendo as you can already guess) back then..................I replayed the game again and I gave up as soon as I reached chapter 9 again because I was totally and utterly bored while playing.Characters that I used to think of as badasses(like ..*barf*...Lightning) come off as one-note tropes with little to no personality,I got irritated by the dialogue which 90% of is: "Fal'cie,L'cie,Pulse L'cie, focus focus focus and Fal'cie,L'cie,Pulse L'cie, focus focus focus and even more Fal'cie,L'cie,Pulse L'cie, focus focus focus" over and over and over again with little to no character development(Maybe Hope but he went from annoying to a bit less annoying) or even an actual believable human speech aside from Sazh who pretty much was the best character in the game.Battles take forfiretruckingever because the enemies, even the basic random encounters, have so much HP that the game becomes a repetitive practice on the stagger system to the point you'll find yourself using Auto-Battle instead of choosing the attack yourself because the game encourages you to do so if you don't want your battles to last for over 25 minutes(Proudclad I'm looking at you)....and the less I mention the 30 hours long hallway the better.

Anyway I can already sense the kind of comments I'm gonna get(especially from the ones I argue with) but eh...whatever....I kinda feel better now

*Ouch ouch stop hitting me ouch*

Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Probably gonna get salt thrown at me for this but it's a bad game. If you look at the competitive scene for Melee it is insane how disrespectful Sakurai was too them. Melee was so good and then they made Brawl for the intention to kill the competitive scene. It is good casually but everything else just ugh. Makes it hard to appreciate.

Shadow the Hedgehog was really bad..I just liked the music xD

I regret all of the yugioh games I have hoarded as a child

It's not really "terrible" per se, but Earthbound is something I used to love that when I revisited it recently, it just hasn't aged that well. The bizarre aesthetic it has is the only thing that it has going for it because other than that it's just a Dragon Quest clone minus the rolling hp gimmick.

Every movie licensed game I've ever played.

Except Spider Man 2, because that was solid.

Any Yu-Gi-Oh game I played...

Also maybe Roller Coaster Tycoon

Now, I had a movie that fits this perfectly. It was my favorite movie and then I watched it again after I turned 13:

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl

I used to love Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06 a lot as well.

Secret of Mana. I got Winner's Proof to try it and he wound up ranting at me at how terrible it is. I haven't played it in a while so I replayed it just to prove him wrong and... yeah, it's not fun getting knocked on your ass every time something pokes you -- without Mercy Invincibility, I might add.

Oh boy... This will be fun.

Final Fantasy VIII, X-2, and XII... I was once a hardcore FF fanboy. It's pathetically embarrassing looking back on those days... If it had "Final Fantasy" in the name, I felt compelled to get it. Even those three games I just mentioned... I'm going to go hide from the site for a bit until I can recover what's left of my dignity...

Sonic Adventure 2. I loved the shit out of that game as a kid, and I still do, but objectively, it's all kinds of terrible. Gameplay is wonky at best, tedious treasure hunting at worst, the terrible voice acting is constantly drowned out by the music, certain boss battles are utter misery to fight through, most levels are terribly designed, etc. Don't get me wrong, I still love playing the game, it's got one of the best soundtracks in the series and certain levels are still a blast to play (Metal Harbor, White Jungle, and a few others).

Oh, and for the record, i just played Shadow the hedgehog last year, and it wasn't that bad. It was lots of dumb bullshit, yeah, but it was kind of a cheesy fun running around shooting aliens as a hedgehog and trying to keep up with the derpy plot. It's certainly better than Sonic Heroes or 06, that's for sure.

Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex

The first real Crash game not made by Naughty Dog, I originally got this game back on the Gamecube when it first came out, and I loved it. But looking back at it, that game was just really terrible. Maybe I'll go into furthur detail later, but as it stands, Twinsanity is still the best non-Naughty Dog Crash game.

Also maybe Roller Coaster Tycoon

You're crazy, Roller Coaster Tycoon is firetrucking classic that will never age, it's still an awesome game. :P

I really loved Spider Man 2 ^_^

For me that was the best Spider Man game I've ever played alongside Spider Man Shattered Dimensions

Ultimate Spiderman for PS2 was my favorite

It was pretty much just Spiderman 2 with refined gameplay, a sleek paint-job, and it took place in a more interesting universe

Almost forgot about Ultimate Spider Man....I loved it but I couldn't complete it because the copy I bought kept on crashing in the same mission every time....it didn't happen to the people around me who got the game so maybe I was unlucky

Loved Crash Bandicoot as a kid. Now, I like to look back at how horrendous Playstation 1 graphics were. xD

Primitive graphics = Bad games

The Crash games don't even look bad, especially Crash 3 and CTR

You misunderstood me, hon. I love/ still love the Crash games. I was nearly mentioning how terrible the graphics of the first few are compared to technology now. At least, in my opinion. :)

Ah sorry, It just came off that way since....yknow...''Terrible games you used to love in the past until you realized how terrible they are''....sorry for the misunderstanding

I still feel that the games look great in todays standards if only because of the games uniqe theming and nostalgia

I actually really like some games that I know are quite bad (the whole XIII saga for example, though the first one is the only one that's REALLY bad, imo. The others have issues too but not as big).

I guess I just don't care?

I can't think of a single game that I've played again that was any worse than it was when I played it for the first time. Probably because I focus on too much on the positives than the negatives - I don't know.

every single game I've ever played

I would have to go with...Sonic Heroes. I would love the game...if the control didn't get me killed. It feels jittery, marathon levels, Team Chaotix (uniqueness may have been good at first...until you need to search everywhere for that one thing you need to complete the level), and the voices can sort of get on my nerves (Let me direct you to Tails). Team Rose was the best in the game (do I need to explain the deaths caused via belly flop from Big the Cat? Their Team Blast with invincibility?). Oh and one more problem: Rail Canyon. The only other good part of the game was the music. So the positives: Team Rose and music.

I loves me some Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, but neither game has aged well, especially SA1. You know a game is glitchy when there are huge walkthroughs dedicated to listing all the glitches -- though they are fun to exploit. One of my favorites is getting Tails into the "At Dawn" section of Speed Highway. With SA2, I actually kind of enjoyed the varied gameplay, though I never gave the level design much thought. It's obvious each stage is tailored to the speed, hunting, or shooting missions, and I never really minded. Some of the requirements for A Ranks is awful, though. The "Clear [X Stage] under [Y time]" missions can be brutal, too, even when the level itself is easy.

Sonic Heroes is also a game I used to love, but when I tried replaying it later, I just couldn't handle the controls. They're just too stiff. I also have bad memories of Team Chaotix, Rail Canyon, and Team Chaotix's version of Rail Canyon. Changing rails is awful in this game, and missing one item in Team Chaotix's stages forces you to replay the entire level again to find it, and there goes your score. Soundtrack is great, though.

I only said maybe. xD I love Roller Coaster Tycoon
