Kingdom Hearts III Death Problem!

Posted

As you may have noticed in the Kingdom Hearts series, no one ever dies.

Except for Master Eraqus who might return in KH3, I don't know.

Just like everyone, I want a happy ending for KH3 but nobody ever dies for some reason. There is always a way for them to return and that may be great for the fans of each character, it kind of gets annoying for the characters to NEVER actually die.

So, is it just me who wants a character from the Kingdom Hearts series to die for good? Just for the tears?

I would like a meaningful death in Kingdom Hearts, especially if Eraqus was to die. His death would be probably the most purposeful right now. Also a interesting death would be Saïx. The situation could be that Axel and Saïx(or Lea and Isa) are fighting and they have an emotional battle to where Saïx says sorry to Axel and let's himself die or something.

No, death for the sake of death is never a good story element. It has to mean something, there has to be a reason for it. Unless you're George R. R. Martin

Of course when I say someone to die, I mean a meaningful death. What did you expect? That I would want a character to die for no good reason? Xion type of death FTW!

(Got the George R. R. Martin joke xP )

A happy ending can make you cry too...

What? I didn't die. What are you talking about?

Oops, sorry, I meant...Move into Terra's heart...temporarily

:O I SO want that to happen now!

 I agree with this!

@ topic : Repliku says HI  :) Also numerous Disney characters died. Technically Eraqus died but we know he hid his heart in Terra so that's in limbo.

Hi Repliku!  I think I mention Kingdom Hearts characters in particular. Besides, the disney characters that died were only villains...I think...

Well, you did say "just for the feels". That implies killing off a well loved character for no other reason that shock value.

My point was Repliku died :)  As for Disney, it IS part of KH and not all deaths in Disney movies are villains..

If a death was meaningless it would just cause hate and not actual sadness or feels. But yeah, it was my bad for saying it that way. You were totally right.

Yeah...I...I knew that .

How could I forget Repliku?   And how could I believe that repliku was another member on KH13? Wow, I suck! >:(

It's all good my friend ;)

Not necessarily, If say, Riku died for no apparent reason, then that woudl give plenty of people feels because he's such a well-liked character. but i'm glad you see what I mean

Hmmmm actually I don't take death scenes seriously unless I really hate the character. If I hate the character than I want that character to die by either getting killed or sacrifice his/her's life for his/her's friends or family. However if there's a character I really love than I don't want that character to die because I want to continue on watching or reading about that character and where his/her's journey leads them too.

Well, if anybody deserves the permanent axe then it should be a character really tragic. Xion could be a possiblilty of being permanently axed as she's just Sora's memories of Kairi visualized into another being and she may have turned into a seeker of darkness, or alternatively, have Ventus sacrificing himself to permanently put an end to Vanitas.

I'm not surprised if I get any negative reception out of this, however, these are examples of tragic permanent deaths. Just throwing them out there.

actually that ventus vantias thing would be really intresting, id be a little confused by it. there ties seem pretty severed, vanitas has been awake and mobile whileventus has been in snores ville, he seems like hes kinda taken on a life of his own really. but i want to hear more on that theory from you.

also as with any story element the only way a death will be relevent/justified is itf it advances the story or plot makes a impact on the characters in some way, and is most effective when it connects with others makes you feel something, if they can do that with the story why not?

Come to think about it, Ventus always stated that he wanted an end to himself because he does not want to be used as a weapon. In BBS climax, Xehanort wanted Ventus and Vanitas to clash to create the X Blade. To prevent this from happening, he wanted to put an end to it himself. Well, once he gets revived, if he was to hear about the thirteen darkness's against the seven lights, he would naturally disagree to it as it would just be a recreation of the past X Blade event just on a grander scale.

If we are to hypothetically assume that Vanitas will be a seeker of Darkness, permanently getting rid of him would mean that there would only be 12 seekers of darkness and Xehanort's plan could be thwarted on paper. Vanitas is Ventus dark half. As Ventus is the light half, if one gets permanently destroyed then the other will to as it destroys the balance between light and darkness within an individual of the Kingdom Hearts universe.

it would be the easiest way to end it, but nomura could have anything up his sleves

death is an incredibly nonessential part of telling a story, and a permanent death basically just means that that character can't be used to tell stories in the future, which is just a waste

Death, functionally exists for impact or for exploring the concept of death. Considering how KH2 handled Vivi, I can't see that route being taken

But a death wouldn't really have any impact at this point in KH, there's too many get out of jail free cards, it'd come off as lazy if the person DIDN'T survive at this point

Still doesn't change the fact that it makes things a bit predictable.

We don't have to care about characters surviving or not because it's a given.

Not making a meaningful yet unexpected death would be lazy because they wouldn't know how to pull it off effectively, therefore giving up on it and as a result, no worries for the players.

there aren't really stakes in KH to start with

the danger comes from your failure as a player, not the story's

If there are any deaths that may occur in the the future of KH, I'd like it to go the same way as Xion's "death" scene if it does happen to any of the main characters. But I want an end to the XIII darknesses and MX as well, but I'd love for MX's death to be permanent and for possibly the XIII darknesses to regain who they once were since they were manipulated by MX.

Well I don't know how to reply to that so this is the part where I accept you're right.

I know when I lose a conversation and the more I think of it

you are right. I wouldn't want any characters to die for good because that would be a waste.

It may be predictable that way but it's fine because the game has been great without any permanent losses.

But I have two characters who I believe that would make a good death:

Saix, after fighting with Axel. Even if some hate him, it would still be really dramatic.

Xehanort because I wouldn't want to see him return in future games in any form.

Late to the party, but I agree with those who say that the death should mean something. *cough cough* AC Unity
