  • I'm fine of people don't like it for good reasons, but IGN doesn't even bother to try to understand the characters or story and often seem to go out of their way to insult it.And it is still relevant

Ok two things. Yes. Opinions. People have them and that's perfectly fine and acceptable. No need to get worked up.   However, one will make this point: if it's literally your job to give an informed

Ah, felt like we were overdue for the usual "HEY LET'S BELITTLE ANYONE WHO DOESN'T LIKE KINGDOM HEARTS" thread. I was beginning to worry for a moment there.

Also, love how we're bringing up a statement from 3 years ago and acting like it's still relevant.

i know its old, but its still funny. even if you warp your mind to before 3D its funny and it shows they have made little to no improvement now.

The creator of this video takes stuff from KH13 and doesn't even credit us.

I'm fine of people don't like it for good reasons, but IGN doesn't even bother to try to understand the characters or story and often seem to go out of their way to insult it.And it is still relevant because while they've made it clear that they don't even want to bother to try to understand the games, the still insist on reviewing every title. It's not just KH either, hell, we're talking about the site that took points off their review of Pokémon Omega Rubu and Alpha Sapphire because Hoenn had "Too much water". I mean yes, Hoenn is the most watery region thus far, but we're talking about a remake here, you should already know what you're in for with the terrain so why take points off for something we all already knew?.

It depends on the person. You can not possibly expect every IGN employee to care about KH.

And the Pokemon review was a freelancer. Not to mention IGN themselves even make fun of the joke.

If you make your living reviewing games, you should at least go into the game with and open mind. Otherwise you're just half-assong your job. But the way the reviews are worded it's clear they went in with a negative preconception and refused to let that go so the review was already biased before it was written. Same goes if you like the series, put your fandom aside and be objective. While it's clear not every (or any) KH game is a flawless masterpiece, even the worst game in the series is decent if you come at it with an objective veiw. Take coded, the least important my game in the series plot wise (unless the Datascape pops up in KH3) but the gameplay is fun. χ is the opposite extreme, barely any game play to speak of, but extremely important to the story.

No but I would expect IGN to make sure that the one or two employees that do care about KH are the only ones who actually review the games for what they are. I would expect that of anybody.

2.5 review was fine.

Marty Silva, the reviewer of 2.5 is a big KH fan. He's the one who did the recent worlds he'd like to see in KH3 feature.

There is a slight point to trying to explain KH making you sound idiotic. The story can be..oddball sometimes.  Just think about it:

"So Mickey mouse has to save Snow White and the other Disney princess from Maleficent with a guy with spikey hair, who weilds a big ass key sword thingy..."

Yup.

Everything else I don't really agree with, but I'm not commenting to start a fight, just mentoning trying to explain KH to someone else really does make you sound stupid as all get out (Trust me, I know from actually trying once).

Huh, can finally put a name to somebody now. Can you link me or is it recent enough to find on IGN's web page?

It can REALLY depend on exactly how you explain it and who you're talking to. Like if you have a friend who gets really into series with complex plots like Once Upon A Time or half of the super hero shows out these days and they don't mind long conversations or one-sided explanations with occasional breaks in between, they can probably be into it so long as you explain it carefully enough. If your friend doesn't care for long complex things like that though and would rather just have a shorter or quicker dialogue, then they might not be as willing to listen. However, if you try to explain things but are just sort of half-assing it like it's the worse idea in the world, then yeah, no one will be invested in it, whether they're a patient friend or not. Likewise, if you can pick your words right and pace your explanation well and try not to criss/cross your explanation too much, then anybody would be able to follow you if they're willing to. However I do realize that that is A LOT to ask of anybody with this series, even I haven't found a way to find my words on the spot and I still have moments where I'm like "OH RIGHT! And backtrack a bit, when this happened this also happened which led to this. Okay, back to where I was...". It's a really complex game of finding the right order to tell things and how to present it, and it can be a challenge with almost anything.

I think probably the best way to go about it, or at least the simplest way, is to just have an open dialogue where you start off with the simplest of premises, "A teenaged boy travels across different Disney worlds with Donald Duck and Goofy as they search for their missing friends while battling monsters and solving a mystery left by Mickey Mouse." Then you have them ask any follow up questions and you answer them as you go. That way you give them exactly what they ask for without dumping too much on them, and if they're really interested they might not be spoiled of all the details yet. But again, it depends on if your friend is willing to go with that.

That's one out of eight. Not a good track record. They should have been doing it all along.I bet you anything even if KH3 does everything this reviewer wants (and it looks like it is) if him or anyone else exept the guy who did 2.5 does it, they'll still find a million reasons why "Kingdom Hearts 3 is the worst game and a lackluster finish to a terrible series"

He wasn't there for most of the others, and he can't dedicate himself to a franchise. The guy reviews a lot of games. That's unfair, no need to hate on a website just because a couple of people don't like it.

Yeah, this was an IGN contributor which is about the same as looking up on any random forum and finding a random guy who made a thread about why KH sucks. My issue with IGN in specific is the comments of people who actually work there.

Yeah I have to say, based on what I just read about 15 minutes ago, the guy seems to have a good head on his shoulders. He doesn't blindly love every little thing about the series like I do T3T but he acknowledges the things that fans generally agree are good and gives it a nice fair shot as a game, and the negative points on the reviews are based purely off of experience rather than pure opinion, which is something I really like. Despite the fact that he and the guy who reviewed 1.5 (the name's lost on me) pointed out that they didn't really care for the DS titles that much, they didn't really make it sound like they took away from the experience. In fact, they even say that hard core fans that actually really love the lore of the series might actually enjoy them like I do T3T". It's not simply the fact that they aren't talking smack about it half the time, it's the fact that there's actual honesty and integrity going behind their words when they talk about these things. While I don't agree with them on things like Days being a weaker game or the Roxas part of KH2 being a "bore-fest", I can still appreciate the care and thought that went into these reviews. And oddly enough I actually agree with most of the list on the KH3 worlds thing. Maybe stuff like Muppets and Indiana Jones might be a bit of a stretch, but everything else he listed are little wishes that I have had for KH3 for quite some time now. Even Star Wars and Marvel (even though we may have already met our Marvel quota with BH6), and those have probably been the most put down ideas by actual fans of KH. I guess this would be the one time where IGN says something in opposition to what most KH fans think that I actually agree with, lol.

They can't all be expected to care about KH.

They should at least care about doing a thorough job. It's like saying "A construction company can't be expected to care about every beam they place" or "A bakery can't be expected to care about every chocolate cake they make"They aren't doing this in their off time for fun. It's their job so they'd better do it right.

Yeah, but it's less 'not caring' and more actively ruffling feathers just to incite fans, which it what it comes off as. When you work for a gaming journalistic site, one that gives generally favorable reviews of the games, and decide to decry entire characters or even the series itself repeatedly despite that, it just makes you look shallow. It makes the reviews themselves look like shows that they put on to appease the fanboys but they're perfectly happy to speak bad behind everybody's backs. Except, in this case, it's in interviews or other videos where they do it.

If you don't like what they say about KH, why are you giving them more publicity? Why are you letting them ruffle your feathers. Let them say whatever they want, who gives a crap? By getting annoyed you are giving them power. If every KH fan in the world stopped caring about IGN's opinion, they will stop posting articles and making videos that belittle the series. Simple as that.

People are free to voice their opinions. Don't lose sleep over it just because someone posted an article like that.

Remember, whats good and bad is subjective

The creator of this video takes stuff from KH13 and doesn't even credit us.

What he took?

What he took?

Took stuff I said from the recent poll of the day about digital versions.

"I'm out in Tokyo, playing games and giving my opinion on them for video that needs to be up in a matter of hours for the biggest gaming website on the Internet." Yeah, they have time to research something they don't care about.

So a couple of video people don't care about KH? Big deal.
