How long of a gap do you think will be between KH3’s release and the next console game’s release?

How long of a gap do you think will be between Kingdom Hearts 3’s release and the next console game’s release?

Personally I believe we will be having one side game and then Kingdom Hearts 4. So I think it will be around 7 years, considering we will probably be getting the 'Final Mix' version of Kingdom Hearts 3 the year after it's initial release and then a heavy development cycle for the possibility of each game. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

EDIT: By 'Final Mix' I mean DLC that we can get from the PS store. I am just assuming they will call the DLC 'Final Mix'.

Five to six years, because I think they'll crank out a couple of handhelds before Kingdom Hearts 4 (Or whatever it will be called), like they did with KH 1 and 2.

Who says that a side game won't be on consoles?

I doubt that handhelds will be popular enough to release a new KH game on it. SE will use the current KH3 engine and assets again. Development time will be shorter than before and it could only take 2 years for the next game on the console.

I say 1 to 2 years. I'm not going to say over 5+ years, just to exaggerate.  From where I see it, this is the first time they are using Unreal Engine in a KH game, things weren't working out with Luminous Engine during the development, since Unreal Engine is new and all, I guess they would need practice with this engine and all. Like see what this thing can do.

Wow, this is quite an interesting poll of the day! Good one mate, personally I think it'll take around 3-4 years. I doubt there's gonna be a final mix of KH3, Dec maybe but not a final mix. And they should have enough time to start all the way from scratch with a new storyline.

3 to 5 years imo. 'Cause I don't think they're going to start the next saga with a hand-held and since it's a brand-new adventure there is no need to make a game that connects KH3 to KH4. So in my opinion the game after KH3 will be a mainline game and it will probably be announced 1-2 years after KH3's release (for PS5?) and be released 2-3 years after it's announcement. So yeah, next game is KH4, 5 years after KH3 maximum.

DLC make Final Mixes unnecessary. There was no International Version of any of the FFXIII games after all. Anything they want to add can be added as DLC.

Everybody should listen up here, there is most likely going to be a cliffhanger at the end of KH3 and that will lead into a spin off title before anything else is made. Take Chains of Memories for example, it was made as a way to tie Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts 2 after that cliffhanger of Kingdom Hearts. It was a way for them to get people who played the game to be able to know what is going to happen next but at the same time not go into a complete sequel title. So for Kingdom Hearts 3, there will most likely be one spin-off title to tie KH3 to KH4, and then after KH4, there will most likely be spin-offs again. But honestly, they could actually make KH4 on the PS4 as well, since PS5 won't be coming out for a couple of more years, the same with how KH2 worked on the PS2. And the thing about Final Mixes, I think they are done trying to release a Final Mix as its own game with the game only coming out in Japan only. I think they are most likely to use DLC this time around for the Final Mix portion of the game. I think adding DLC would be the same thing basically as making a Final Mix and they wouldn't have to make the games seperate from one another. KH3 feels like the end of the first chapter of Kingdom Hearts while a new chapter in the series is opening up for new possiblities. So to answer the question here, I think 1--2 1/2 years for a spin-off title to lead into KH4 which will be out 2-4 years after KH3!

Very true mate. I believe we will be getting DLC from the PS Store for KH3 too but I just assumed they would call the DLC 'Final Mix' but I could be wrong.

5-6 years, maybe 4 if we're lucky. At this point I'm not sure if they'd do another "side" game, unless they were really intrigued by new handheld technology, which is... unlikely, given the handheld market today. So I think whatever game comes out next will be a console title.

I mean, they could always go mobile too, but we'll see.

It will be a gap, but I think that in 2020-2021 will be when the next console will come out.

Hmmm yeah that's a good point! Because they've already used all the handhelds including mobile phones for KHUx. So if there is a side game it makes me wonder what it will be on, unless Nintendo releases a new handheld with the upcoming 'NX' then I don't fancy playing another KH game on the older systems. So yeah, if there's no new handheld technology then home consoles would be the way to go.

I am not quite sure yet... I feel that this is too early for us to ask ourselves this just yet. Perhaps after KH 2.8 releases, then I might have an answer.

(I'm unsure about my response at the moment, and since there is no "I'm not sure yet" or "Another option?" choice, I must leave this response with no vote.)

Rock on!

Hopefully takes no more than 2 years. 3 and 4 years is a loooong time.

Personally, my standing on this is that after the Xehanort Saga ends, Nomura and his team deserve themselves a nice little break!  They've been working on this saga for over a decade, you know!  After Kingdom Hearts III, I'm sure the time gap between it and the start of the next saga will be at least five to six years!  That way, Nomura can work on other projects, and in the meantime slowly layer out how he wants the next saga to go, ya know?  And assuming that Kingdom hearts III comes out next year, that means that if the gap between it and the next installment would be six years, we'd be getting our next KH game on 2023!  By then, a buttload of Disney Animated Classics and Pixar films will have come out, so Nomura will have even more material to pull from to create worlds! (I say Pixar because Nomura may end up using Pixar films as worlds, too!)

And I think I remember an interview with Nomura that he said that when the next saga comes around, he'll attempt to make all the games of said saga for just one console.  I think I read that in an interview a while ago, or maybe its just me!  But anyways, yeah, five to six years is my verdict!  And I say that's okay! :D

I think after KH3 they need to let the series bask in its glory for a while before they announce the next installment. Put a lot of emphasis on KH3 for a while

Yes! I completely agree with you both. They need a break and to give lots of time for KH3 to shine in its glory for around at least 3-4 years before giving us information on the next game :) It's more than likely going to have multiplayer too so that will make it last those years.

Haha, yeah!  Given how huge and massive and ambitious Kingdom Hearts III's going to be, I'm sure we KH fans will be devouring everything this game has to offer for the foreseeable future!  And when we least expect it, we'll get our new KH game that'll kick off the next saga! :D

I think 3 years is a good amount of time. They already have the engine and things developed for so the sequel shouldn't take more than 3 years to develop. The PS4 needs another entry in the series and if it's much longer than 3 years then they would probably have to start thinking about next gen. I think a game focusing on Kairi/Riku or featuring the Pixar universe would be an awesome game for the PS4 to get.

3 to 4, they have all the assests of kh3 available for them to transfer to 4 so that itself can cut off a year and change of work, plus now that Normura the osaka team working on HC,  games that wouldve been handheld may very well be on HC like how BBS was suppose to be. even then the original kh team is finishing up XV so they could come back and do KH4 unless they are going directly into the XV sequels which will also come out faster because they have all of the assests of XV.

I'll be a bit pessimistic and say 9+ years, but i think we'll get some Kingdom Hearts games between there for Handhelds^^
