The XV Team Could Work Magic On KH3

Recommended Posts

this tells me that the battle system and graphics for kingdom hearts 3 will be much more polished once they start working on it for a year or so

The graphics yes, the battle system I hope so. That's my biggest concern for KH3.

C'mon, don't bash the Osaka team. They're now the definitive Kingdom Hearts team by the words of Tetsuya Nomura. the primary team are "veterans" per say.

This is what disappoints me though, they got a handheld developer to develop a AAA home console game. And it doesn't help that the battle system was broken in both the games they developed.

To an extent I agree, but the 'veterans' were working on XV, which has just as much riding on it as Kingdom Hearts 3, if not more. Although the 13 trilogy sold well, the critical reception of it was good but a lot of people hate it, including fans. It's linearity pushed some hardcore fans away and put off new fans from playing it. Versus Xii or XV either way has been in development for the past 10 years and loads of people are expecting it to be amazing.

Many FF fans have been thrown away from the series lately since it has strayed from it's 'traditional' roots. XV has kind of thrown some hardcore FF fans away since it's not turn based, but has brought in another audience who prefer action rpgs to turn based games. Either way, 15 needs to try and bring in new fans who want to stay whilst also keeping the magic of older final fantasy games. People who've never heard of FF are now saying "Oh that game looks awesome! Let's pick it up!"

Final Fantasy is Square Enix's best selling franchise and this game can make them A LOT of money. So they've had to bring in the VETERANS, the best of the best to make this game really good.

On the other hand, Kingdom Hearts is not selling anywhere near final fantasy (although it really should be) so I assume it's not ideal to bring in the veterans and go all out just yet. They need to prioritise XV first and now that the game is a good 85%-90% done, the veterans can be brought in to work on KH3.But the game definitely needs the XV team to help, it has to otherwise I'm going to be really concerned. BBS and DDD are great games but they suffer from balancing issues. Spamming shotlocks, overpowered thunder surge in BBS, command styles are also really OP. Spamming flowmotion and balloon 24/7 in DDD. Also the combos are really floaty.

Fortunately we have our KH3 demo releasing this year aka 0.2, if we still feel combos are floaty or mechanics are broken then we can simply tweet Square enix to tell them so. They took in plenty of feedback for Episode Duscae and in the newer platinum demo the game feels much improved, so I have no doubt that our feedback will be effective. Why else would you make a demo?

....he didn't bash them at all.

:D

I can't be the only the feels that graphically kh3 will end up looking far better than XV,mainly because of the stylized visuals.

The only thing that really stands out graphically to me in XV is the environments.

Osaka team has managed to do well with visuals, in my opinion. Granted, there's a few character models and textures that could use some polishing (*cough* Yen Sid*), as well as the indoor lighting in Yen Sid's tower (assuming it's the same lighting used in 2.8). And there are a few world textures that need polishing, but overall, KH3 looks visually stunning, in my opinion, and matches the overall motif and visual style of the Kingdom Hearts series. My only real worry is gameplay balancing, which, hopefully when Tokyo steps in, they will play a role in balancing the gameplay and keeping battle scenarios a little more varied.

I agree with you about gameplay balancing. I think that Yen Sid looked great but my god-Riku, Kairi and Mickey in the 2.8 trailer looked atrocious. Aqua's back and the ROD in the first snippet of 0.2 looked amazing though. Yen Sid's tower in KH3 on the outside is just stunning but the inside we see in the 2.8 trailer is eww. We've seen how good models can look in the Kingdom Shader though, so it's just that extra bit of polish that both games need.

Osaka have always done a good job of making Kingdom Hearts look visually stunning and introducing new, interesting game mechanics (flowmotion, command styles, D-Links, combining with dream eaters) but balancing is their worst issue. It's a big issue too. Having gameplay balancing issues leads to less replay ability imo. Even now people can go back to KH1 and KH2 and play the games in so many different ways, in BBS and DDD you can just spam certain attacks all the way through because it's the best option.

You know, I'm very excited for this!  Just a few days ago, I found out about this!  I hadn't known that the KH people working on XV would come over to help out with Kingdom Hearts III after development for XV would finish! :D  Now that I know about this, I am definitely pumped and psyched!  Together with the Osaka team, they'll both craft a gorgeous game in Kingdom Hearts III! And also, having the extra manpower might actually prove to speed up development considerably, therefore making 2017 the likely year for Kingdom Hearts III to release! :3

He didn't bash them at all. Besides, just because they're the 'main' KH team does not mean we're not allowed to criticize them. They have flaws and we are allowed to point them out.

I'm not saying that the Osaka team is perfect, and all the criticisms towards them are valid, however, just because the original Kingdom Hearts team is going to speed up development doesn't mean that Kingdom Hearts is going to "drastically improve". It just means that things would speed up quicker. 2.8 seems to late in development to really change anything about it, and part of the reason as to why the visuals are a slight downgrade from KH3 is because it's not top priority. All 2.8 really serves is to provide a HD Remaster of Dream Drop Distance, a console variation of X and a KH3 demo in the form of 0.2.

Why wouldn't it? Also, no one mentioned 2.8 besides I and @Svard and that was in in terms of KH3's graphics. We all know what 2.8 is, no need to remind us. Many of the original Kingdom Hearts team have left the company or moved to different divisions so that's slight misinformation. I simply said that the XV team, referring to the 'main team' will work magic on it.

Note- I'll edit this post in a second, let me go through all the old interviews and see what Nomura and/or Tabata said about the XV team moving over to KH3, the user @Tails told me about it but couldn't find the interview.

Update-In all honesty I've been through about 20 interviews and haven't found much evidence to support my claim. I have taken the time to message a reliable source and will post his response here.

For now take this with a big grain of salt guys, we wouldn't want any disappointments now would we?

UPDATE- I found this video from TheGamersJoint, about XV's development impacting KH3.

HMK also made the same sort of video on the subject of XV's development impacting KH3.

Both of them stated that the XV team will help the Osaka team once XV is finally complete. Although it has yet to be confirmed by a developer/director- I also saw another comment on the video, a Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts youtuber called Stoop Leonhart said

"Once FF15 is done, that team will take over development of KH3 and with both teams working at the same time it should make development time quicker."

That's 3 youtubers who've all basically said the same thing. So I see no reason not to believe this, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high. I've seen many people say that this will happen but I can't find any interview to back it up.

Also-The Tokyo team and Osaka team regularly communicate. We'll just have to wait. I'll ask a mod to rename this thread so it's less misleading.

I think people are using the terms "Team X is developing this game" "Team Y is developing this game" too lightly. They may share some common people in common positions (Directors, Producers and Lead Designers, etc) but people and fans always forget those who work under them (all the programmer, debuggers, artists, etc) they always change, move on to other projects, change companies, change roles etc. Hell, the KH1 & 2 TEAM" as many of you call it is not composed by the same guys in the 2 games, here take a look:
