Nomura talks Kingdom Hearts III gameplay in Famitsu interview preview, confirms abilities such as Glide returning & each Keyblade has its own transformation

Famitsu.com has posted a preview to their E3 2015 interview with Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series. This part of the interview discusses some of the exciting gameplay in Kingdom Hearts III. You can read the part concerning Kingdom Hearts III below, which has been translated by goldpanner. The full interview will be included in the next issue of Famitsu Weekly.

The Keyblade Transformation Gameplay in KHIII

--- Despite the great number of enemies and all the special effects happening, the movement in the battle scenes in the trailer was so smooth, not jerky at all.

Nomura: For this title we are implementing free running, charging up walls and such, so Sora's mobility isn't ordinary (laughs). Most things can be overcome with jumping and free running, and as in previous games there are of course abilities such as Glide that you can unlock as you go along.

---As equally eye-catching as Attraction Flow were the Keyblade transformations. Despite gaining a befitting power from the Mark of Mastery exam, can Sora really command such amazing transformations all of a sudden?

Nomura: I can tell you all about that. Game-wise, it's possible from early on. However, each individual Keyblade has a different way of transforming. Basically, it's possible to get the option to make your Keyblade change shape once you complete specific requirements during battle. Then, the way it actually works is that transforming a Keyblade will change it into a specific form, such as the chariot from the trailer, and you use the abilities of that form.

There we go then. Maybe Kingdom Key has its own transformation. Just think of the possibilities. If iconic keyblades make it into the game like Oathkeeper, Oblivion, and ULTIMA WEAPON, its going to be interesting finding out what each ones transformation is. O yeah and Glide is in the game as well :)

Awesome! I can't wait to find out every keyblade's tranformation.

This is a great idea because while fighting bosses you might need to use a Keyblade Tranformation that's more useful in that situation. That makes the choice of keyblade more important than the stats of Strength and Magic.

i'm confused what does he mean by "you use the abilities of that form", he makes it sound like a drive form

I figured that they'd bring back glide. And in an earlier forum I posted that my guess was that Sora's keyblades would get exclusive transformations, that's why the keyblade that was used in the dual pistol transformation looked different than the Pegasus chariot transformation. One was Starseeker(?) And the other was possibly(?) Olympia.

But this is great! I can't wait to try them all. However, I am having a hard time imagining Kingdom Key transforming.

Does anyone know when the next issue of Famitsu Weekly comes out? Looking forward to the whole interview!

Just imagine to glide in open worlds .

I'd love to have something similar to Batman: Arkham City's glide feature where you can dive at certain points and then bring yourself back up. But I don't think KHIII's system will be that advanced.

So, just to make sure I've got this right, does the transformation depends on the keychain you have? If you're using the Hercule Keyblade than it transforms into a chariot? Or does it not matter what keychain you have as long as you've progressed through the story and 'unlocked' a certain transformation, kind of like a Limit?

At long last! I can finally run up, down, and all around walls as I please! None shall stop me from playing as Sora the Keyhog! xD:D X3 :3<3

I can't wait to do free running in kingdom hearts 3.

Good lord, each Keyblade will have its very own transformation!?  DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!!???  Let's say there are at least 25+ Keyblades that can be earned in the game, plus a few you can synthesize...that's 25+ Keyblade transformations!  Good lord, Nomura is aiming for high ambitions with this game!  I'm looking forward to every gameplay aspect the game will have!  Ooh, this is going to be good! :D
