Nomura discusses reasoning for KH2.8, confirms KH3 team is making 2.8, 0.2 will only take the length of one world

In an interview with Famitsu Weekly magazine, Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts series, has confirmed the reason behind Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is that Kingdom Hearts III is even further away than fans would hope. He also confirmed that the title is being made simultaneously with Kingdom Hearts III. This suggests that the development of Kingdom Hearts III, which has been in development since 2010, may be affected in some capacity.

Nomura also confirmed Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage – will use Kingdom Hearts III's technology and will only last the duration of one Disney world. It is set straight after the secret movie in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix. They plan on using using gameplay elements from Kingdom Hearts III.

The cinematic title in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover will also show off Kingdom Hearts III's technology according to Gematsu.

When asked for a time frame regarding the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, Nomura said they cannot announce a certain time frame due to it being developed with Kingdom Hearts III.

To be completely ho estI wasnt expecting KH3 before 2018. With FFXV coming out before that, the production will be full throtle after that.

Welp that settles that guys. 2100 release date confirmed lol. I won't be spending 60 dollars on a short game though. I think for the first time ever! I will actually prefer to watch a walk through and save money. :O

Uh, development since 2010? lol

Zootopia and Moana are both Disney Animation movies coming out in 2016. They could be clever and set both those worlds after the events of their respective movies. The assets for both movies have already been created since 2014 so transferring them to Kingdom Hearts 3 wouldn't be an issue whatsoever.

I agree that while it is technically possible for them to be in KH3, I doubt it. I think it's been confirmed that all of the worlds have been decided, so why would they pick two movies that are still being made right now?Yes, I know Square said they get to see movies before they release, but not while they are in the middle of production. I would say Zootopia would be LUCKY to get in. Not a chance for Moana. Besides, you don't want KH3 stuffed with all the new stuff.

Full game price for this is a joke. There's no way this is worth $60.

Disagreed. You're not only getting a full game, you're also getting a movie and a short continuation of a prior game. It's worth it.

KH1.5 and 2.5 each had 2 full games + new movie (the movie in 2.8 is confirmed to be short so much be shorter than the movies in 1.5 and 2.5) Honestly, this game should be cheaper than 1.5 and 2.5 which were $40.

So we're getting one full game, a movie, and a demo all for the amazing price of 60 dollars. Way to deflate any excitement I had for this title.

And the full game is one that most people have already played on the 3DS, too. :/

OH GOD! I'M WORRIED! DOES THAT MEAN THEY'RE GOING TO MAKE A 2.9 IN THE FUTURE?!

Yes they can, There is plenty of finished footage, D23 is a clear example of it. They are already in Post production with Zootopia. You just won't see footage till the Good Dinosaur comes out (since thats when official trailer is released)

Aqua? Realm of Darkness? KINGDOM HEARTS 3 TECHNOLOGY! Yup, still something to be hyped for.

Glad that you think a couple hours of gameplay and a video that will be uploaded to YT almost immediately is worth $60.

It's a crap deal; even if you take 3D into account, (a) most of us here have played it, (b) even if there is new content in it, it won't be very much, and © 1.5 and 2.5 sold with a lot more content at an even lower price point.

Why are people hyped for this, again?

Because some of us wanted this and now we're getting it, so there. There's more value to a game than just how long you could play it for. Some of us are excited to see what X Back Cover will offer and to a lot of us, even 3 hours worth of KH3 gameplay is better than none at all for another 2 to 3 years. And also, a lot of us really love Dream Drop Distance and have no qualms playing it again in HD, if anything it's what I've been waiting for since 2013. Maybe my priorities or values are different than yours, but that doesn't make either of them wrong, it just gives us different ways to feel about this game, and I am proud to be on the hyped side.

Why the rush for Zootopia and Moana?  We still have another saga after KH3

Guys, we need to thank Nomura for this!  He's making sure we're kept busy next year while his team finishes up Kingdom Hearts III for a juicy, 15th Anniversary 2017 release spectacular! :D It's going to be marvelous! :')

So then, A Fragmentary Passage is going to be the length of one world in the KH series, eh? Hmm, well, I've never actually stopped to think how long it takes for me to beat a world in the KH games, since I always take my time and level grind and explore the worlds, etc. I'm not disappointed at all. I'm frickin hyped for this game, and I really need to be getting myself a PS4 soon! xD

Kingdom Hearts is always worth the $60 tag.

Not surprised, although I expected a bit more longer than one hour. I mean there isn't much to be done in RoD besides find a way to escape.

Quite simply because they want to DDD in HD, learn new lore, or get a taste of KH3 but thank you for your opinion. Now if you don't mind I'll be getting back onto my hype train now. Have a zip-a-dee-do-da day.

Well, I haven't played Dream Drop Distance. I think £40 is a reasonable price since the series deserves it anyway.

You guys do realize that they don't necessarily mean the length of Worlds from prior games right? It's on the PS4, so that likely means it'll be the length of a world from KHIII.

If it was 40$ there would be no qualls. But the fact that DDD is already the shortest game in the series, .2 actually means the amount of hours you will be playing it, and back cover will take the time you need to read a back cover, It's a little ridiculous when you consider that 1.5, and 2.5 had the main series games, and an extra solid time consuming game.
