Hail to the King!

There is, although being the third game in the series, it kind of relies a lot on lore from the first two, especially the first. Still, the trick is to treat it as something of an archeology story, where you're piecing the lore together from what you find and observe, rather than having it really told straight forward. If you're interested, a good youtube channel to watch is VaatiVidya, who does a great job of explaining it all.

There's a definite learning curb, but Dark Souls 3 is better about it than the first game. But if you can beat Gundyr, you're prepared to beat anything else in the game. All it takes is a lot of patience and willingness to learn the obstacles, and it can all be overcome.

Also, Prince Naveen is a good guy. Has a nice character arc.

Philip is the prince in Sleeping Beauty, and he's kind of responsible for saving the kingdom.

Welp, the two main enemies from CoM are back, officially making every major boss fight you've had in the series irrelevant. Because eff feeling accomplished, am I right?

In fairness, he might still think he's still with Star Command.

Proud to take a moment this Remembrance Day to think about both my grandfathers who fought against Nazis, fascism, and racism, and fought for those who found themselves oppressed.
