Thinking about possibly going into the air force. Anyone got any advice or info?
Javelin434 repliedMAny keep telling me that if you can join as an officer, then do it. If you're gonna join as an enlisted, it's been a mixed review for me whenever I ask vets for their opinion. SOme say it as the best decision they have ever made, others say they have regretted it.

Queen Tery repliedYeah I wouldn't be going in for the "save the day" type of stuff. I just want a solid, stable career. Looking over the E-pay rates, the housing allowances, retirement, TSP, I'm already aware of the health benefits since my dad was in the military, knowing that I can continue my career in pharmacy doing something I enjoy without having to go to college for 8 fricking years when I don't have that time or money on my hands just sounds like a good idea to me.
Javelin434 repliedRemember that all branches except for the army has an open contract when you enlist. Meaning: when you join, whatever the branch needs at that moment, that will become your career. And right now, chances are high that you'll become a mechanic or MP (drones and base security) Army will at least guarantee you the job you sign up for but the options are limited. I almost enlisted with a position as a pharmacy tech but held short because I decided to give college a try.

Javelin434 repliedAlso: when training for your MOS (military occupational specialty) it's almost guaranteed that the credits that you earn while learning will not transfer to any other college institution. I met an army pharmacy tech dude in my bio 2 class. 30+ years and no official degree because his credits weren't recognized in the civil workforce. He was also deployed overseas for 3 years doing medical logistics.
Queen Tery repliedI would not plan on transferring the credits over to college. They would only be 30 college credits and they would be toward Pharmacy Tech. Which is not a career that you actually need college for anyway lol I would be doing this, so I could do something I enjoy and get a nice 20 year retirement out of it with nice benefits to top it off.
Think Pink repliedohh okay, i was mistaken about your reasoning. sorry about that! well, if you're going for something like pharmacy, i'm not sure what your chances of getting it are. as javelin said, they may just put you wherever they feel like they need you. if they'd prefer you to be something different, you don't have a choice. i'd recommend seeing if they could find a way to guarantee your position before officially enlisting.

My dad, step-mom, and mom all suggested it to me, so I heard out what they all knew, and did research of my own and to my knowledge if I take the ASVAP and want pharmacy specialist they would be able to tell me whether that's something they can offer if not and if they don't have a need for anyone in that field at the moment then I wouldn't go in, unless of course I agreed to allowing them to just...

Javelin434 repliedIf I remember correctly, you sign the contract to enlist, then they process you and then you can take the ASVAB. You can get a perfect score, but if you enlisted in any other branch other than Army, then you're at the mercy of the system regardless of potential.
Queen Tery repliedNah, you can take the ASVAB, your score determines what you can do, but you're at the mercy of availability. At least from what I've read. If they don't have a career that you want, you don't have to go into basic training, BUT considering how quickly careers come and go most people jump on anything available instead of just waiting and trying again some other time.

I don't know how the enlisted benefits are doing ever since Congress slashed funding and whatnot, but if you believe the reward outweighs the risk, then I can't stop you. Like some of the enlisted people I've talked to say, some of them feel that college isn't right for them and they managed to do fairly well in the enlistment career.

Queen Tery repliedYou are right about the slashed funding. But it's only the re-enlistment bonuses that got cut to my knowledge. Which sucks, but the income would still be better than what I've got now and retirement after 20 years with possible TSP, disability pay, and the chance of working as a civilian for more pay afterwards sounds like a good deal. Pangoro "Sen" replied...I can only connect this with what I know of Japanese mythology. Mainly connecting to Susano, Tsukiyori, and Amaterasu. However, since you speak of Obito, I assume you're talking about Naruto...in which case, I have no place in this comment, because I'm not that far into Naruto.
