there is a lot of debate in my state about allowing gay marriage i decided to make this topic to see what u guys think!

Yes! A person should be able to marry whoever they love! There should be no restrictions on that. It's not right.

 

However, the big problem isn't about people being gay, it's about the politics and money. The government is afraid if gay marriage is legal everywhere, non-gay couples will say they're gay and get married just to get the others benefits. That isn't right at all, but of course there are a-holes out there who WOULD in fact take advantage of that if gay marriage was legal everywhere. Straight people would take advantage of it just for benefits. That's mainly why it's illegal.

 

As for the "reproduction" comments. I'm a female, I'm straight and I don't want kids lol Does that make me useless? No. Women aren't around JUST for popping out babies. It's almost 2012, let's get over the fact we're not in the kitchen knocked up every year. We work, we go to school, we join the military, we own corporations.. However, if you want a baby, go ahead! It's a beautiful thing and it's a miracle. Truly, it is, but we're not made JUST for that reason. There's plenty of other women out there who want to reproduce. It's not like gay marriage means no more babies being made. And they can adopt. Someone who doesn't want that child, a happy, loving gay couple will take it and raise it as it's own. That's my 2 cents there.

I think, as people, we only have the ability to control our own lives. We shouldn't try to control others from doing something as harmless as that. A lot of people think it's going to affect them, but it isn't. It's completely normal to be a person, and with being a person comes with many emotions. Wouldn't you feel horrible if you stopped someone from loving someone else? I guess it just seems a little selfish to not allow gay marriage. I'm not easily offended though, nor am I very religious, but wouldn't you also dislike not being able to get married to the one you loved? If you take away all the circumstances, these people are just like you.

Gay marriage should be allowed. The only reasons I have heard supporting why gay people shouldn't be allowed to get married, are opinions from certain religious standpoints. Since I'm not part of any of those religions, being Buddhist, I see no problem with them getting married. Religion aside, I don't see how two guys or two girls getting married could possibly interfere with anyone's life. Even if your religion is against it, there is no rule (that I have heard of anyways) stating that you have to associate with, or fight against gay marriage. If you think it is a sin in your religion to be gay and get married, then don't be gay and get married, that doesn't mean you have to enforce that on other people.

I honestly don't care if a gender marries the same gender. It's hard to choose, so I'm not voting. But gay people are people too. I'd rather see a gay couple than a gay person, just alone in a store or something. It breaks my heart when I see someone alone, especially if they're old, or if you know that they're gay. I'm not gay, but I still feel bad when I see gay people alone.

I believe that gay relationships are ok in themselves, but I don't think that gay marriage should be legalized... It just doesn't seem right to me, the way I've been brought up and everything. The Bible talks about it pretty harshly at one point, as well.

You know what? Marriage has become disposable in this day and age. I'm a traditionalist, so I always said that marriage should be a union between a man and a woman. But I've met soooooo many people who don't want to marry (although they do act like they are; living together, kids and all) that I've changed my mind. If gays want to marry, let them marry. At least they value it.

 

*EDIT* I also want to add this: yes, I am religious. But the whole point of being religious is that we don't get to judge people; God does. So I'll leave it up to Him. All I can do is try to be the best person I can be.

YEAH! Gay marriage should be allowed. Even though God wants to have marriage to be between a man and a woman, if a man and another man (or a woman and a woman) wants to get married then why not? I mean if they really love each other why can't they be? I mean I'm straight though I've met bi people and gay people and they weren't different from you and I so why can't they be? So they really should, the government should just suck it up and let gay people marry in all states because its just wrong to not let them. They got rights just like us! There not aliens or terrorists I mean seriously people. Okay to stop myself before I go into a full on rant, I agree gay people and bi people should be allowed to marry another man or woman (you know what I mean).

Hmm, this is rather hard to explain- I'm a rather religious person, so I've definately got different opinions from the world, but I'm not afraid to express them.

Anyways, gay marriage has just been... I don't know... it's just something that I've been taught that we shouldn't do, and I agree with those teachings. The rest of the world can bash me for it, but I'm not afraid to express what I have to say about it. It's just not what is meant to be between the human race- there is a reason for different genders, and that is to reproduce. I don't think you can reproduce with gay marriage- call me out on that one if I'm wrong, because I'm not too sure on that fact.

So, all in all, I don't judge on whether or not someone's gay- I know a gay person in real life. I just don't like the idea. I respect your opinion, but that's what I have to say and nothing will change my mind, no matter how much the world tries.

If I recall correctly, God never says being gay is a sin. He says gay sex is a sin, but... I have my own thought's on this. Back when the Bible was written, gay marriage was ilegal. (DUH DUH HURP HURP) And God wants people to obey the law. Making it a sin.

 

I think, that if God (Ya I know it was a bunch of people the wrote it, but bear with me) RE-WROTE the Bible now in 2012, I think some things may have been changed. This being one of them. It's not like being gay is a choice.

No one should ever intervene between love, even if they're gay or not. I'm a straight guy who believes in God, but i believe everyone deserves a chance at love. No government or other people can decide that. Some of my really good friends are Gay and i really don't have a problem with it. Opinions are opinions though so i do respect everyone for it, but for those that try to impede Gay Marriages are no better than the people who oppressed other races or oppressing women. Granted, those were in different times but still.

I am pretty sure it was banned in Florida (where I live, duh)...or at least it's not recognized. T_T F*** that. FL is just full of old people. I totally support it.

same here. i don't know about miami though, but everyone seems ok with it where i live

I don't really get why they don't allow gay marriage where I live it doesn't matter which gender,age, as long as they love each other that's important

I think that marriage between anyone should be allowed civil wise.

Marriage within the church depends solely on what the church itself decides to do

Some churches allow gay marriage because you know 'forgiveness for all, acceptance of all'

Others don't and that's fine too.

But marriage doesn't always have to do with religion and the bible

since you know, you can get married in court and not necessarily with the church and i don't think religion should have anything to do with people getting married in court.

Think of the possibilites that Gay Marriage will bring if it's allowed in all states.

I personally don't believe in gay marriage, but what I think really means very little in the scheme of things. What happens will happen and nothing we think and post on a thread will change it. If it is legalized, then so be it. I don't think people should let that kind of thing ruin their day. As previously stated, I don't believe in it, but I'm not going to be upset or anything if it's passed. It's their business, not the world's. It shouldn't even be up for debate. Let people do whatever they want to do and marry whoever they want to marry.

well see god/jesus didn't even write the bible it was men who thought up wat they thought gods will was and put on paper or wat ever they wrote way back then
