The Future Can Be Changed

 

Chapter 1 - The First Important Decision

 

In the year of 2258, Humans had found a new planet to live. Earth had been seriously damaged, and with time, had been turned into a place where most of the life could not survive for much longer -- there were poisonous gases around the atmosphere, insects had gotten smarter, and so they knew when to attack, injure, and easily transmit diseases.

 

Besides that, new kinds of wild animals had started to appear -- some were like a mix of a bear with an alligator, other resembled the dinosaur, which had disappeared from Earth centuries ago. It was really hard to keep living on Earth -- and some people refused to leave it, and most of them ended up dying -- either by a disease or by being attacked by these wild animals.

 

In the middle of this, there was a small family, which was composed by a fifteen-years old boy, a thirty-eight years woman, and a sixty-four years old woman. They were respectively named Jason, Keyla, and Vear. They were having a hard time deciding whether they would stay here, on Earth, and have risks of being killed or dying at any second, or going to the recently discovered new planet.

 

Vear wanted to stay, because all of her family had lived and died here -- her mom, dad, brother, cousins and grandparents -- but Keyla did not want to, because she wanted to live for many more years. Jason was not sure what he would do -- because he liked his grandmother a lot, but also wished to live a lot more.

 

The people were being sent every day to the other planet -- by that year, there were about 10,5 million people on Earth, and only 500 thousand could be taken by it each day. Vear then told her daughter and grandson that she would think a bit more, and give a proper reply in the following day.

 

Keyla was desperate to go to the other planet -- she had heard that there was a magical powder, which could only be found in there that could give some special powers to the people. She was a bit selfish, and actually would go alone, even if the rest of her family refused to go.

 

Vear was still deciding, but it would be truly painful for her to leave all her memories and dead family behind. She loved them so much, and once she went to the other planet, there was no way to come back -- at least that was what they had informed the people on the TV.

 

Jason would follow his grandmother’s decision, even if it cost him his life -- he loved her so much -- more than his own mother. In the past, his mother had ‘abandoned’ him, because she left all the responsibility with her mother, and instead started to talk with to unknown people on her cell phone.

 

It was time to go to bed -- none of them could easily sleep. It took a while, because they stood a few hours thinking about what they would do in the following day. As the sun appeared, each one of them had decided what they would do now. They woke up almost at the same time, and decided to first have breakfast, before having the discussion where each one would say and defend why they thought that was better.

AWESOME!!!! LOVE IT!!!

Hey LuXun, your story is going great, and it has potential, but may I suggest something? Try writing more visually. You're telling the story as is, and it's hard to picture exactly what is going on in my head. Instead of telling us that Vera did not want to talk to anybody, show it through emotions and awkward silences. Instead of telling us that the aircraft arrived at the new planet safely, show us. (And by "show" I don't mean with picture, but a picture with words.) Use more metaphors and similes.

Other than that, your story seems right on track! Good job!

Just read chapters 1 and 2.1 I'm really enjoying how the story is setting up. By that I mean everything that gets you thinking about what the next chapters will hold. Keep it up.

I'm definitely interested in seeing where this is going. The emotional element of this story is well done.

Today I feel like writing a lot. This chapter is going to be a bit sad! And the action is about to start -- in the next, Chapter 3.3. Hope you enjoy this one. I'm enjoying so much to write this that I'll probably post 3.3 at night! Stay tuned and good reading!

 

Chapter 3.2 - Deceptions

 

After walking a lot, both of them finally arrived in the airport, where lots of people were waiting to finally get out of Earth. Vear saw Keyla, and screamed her name. Everyone started to look at both of them.

“Keyla, what do you think you’re doing?” Vear said.

“Leaving you, and your beloved grandson. Freeing myself from you, that’s all.” Keyla replied.

“Stop with that. Come back with me, you can go tomorrow on the evening, if you want. But it’s too dangerous to go now, at night. What if an accident happens? If the airplane falls on the ground?” Vear said.

“Then you’ll be free from me forever. And so will I be from you. I’m sorry, but I’m not a fifteen-years old girl, sweetheart. I can take decisions, make whatever I want.” Keyla replied.

“Please... I know you’re not a little girl... But I’ve got a bad feeling about this.... Return with me! Let’s talk about everything with Jason... Are you just going to abandon him like that?” Vear asked.

“He prefer you. As long as you’re around, he’ll be fine. I’m tired of being with you two. I don’t know which role I have in this small family. But everything ends now.” Keyla replied.

 

Meanwhile, Jason had just woken up to drink a bottle of water, when he noticed he was alone. First, he checked Vear’s room, and saw that she was not there. Then, next he checked his mother’s room, and was even more worried, when he saw that there was nothing left in that room.

 

Then, he went to the living room, where he found Keyla’s note.

 

I’m tired of all of this. I’m truly sorry, Jason. But you’re better without me. Vear surely can take care of you. I simply want to live alone from now on... If you ever decide to go to the other Planet, then maybe we can end up meeting each other once again.

 

Mom, I’m sorry for being such a child -- There must be a reason for why I’ve not grown in all of these years. A normal adult wants to get out of their parent’s house as soon as possible, but I enjoyed my life of relaxing. But now I’m tired of it.

 

With tears on my eyes, I won’t say a Farewell, but just a “See you soon”, to both of you.

A strong sadness took over Jason. He started to cry like a baby, but it was comprehensible that he was crying because his mom abandoned him without worrying about his future, and simply by letting a small note, she thinks everything would be fine.

 

Besides the sadness, Jason felt a terrible feeling -- like he felt that he was a terrible thing, not even loved by his own mother, he felt worse than garbage. He continued to cry for a long time. But then a question appeared on his mind “Where’s Vear?”.

 

As he was a very intelligent boy, he quickly thought that maybe his grandmother found out that Keyla was going to leave them like that, and went after her. But when she would return, and if she managed to bring Keyla back, it was still unknown for the sad Jason.

 

Back in the airport, the two of them continued to discuss.

 

“I’ll be gone, mom. I know you never wanted to have a daughter like me, but your wish will soon turn into reality. You simply need to use an eraser in all of this, and forget that I was born.” Keyla said.

“My daughter, I love you so much. How can you say something like that? You’re not perfect, not even I’m... No one is... Let’s go back. Jason must be desperate by now... He needs us. We are the only family he got left!” Vear replied.

“You are the only family he got left. I’m quitting this ‘job’. Being a mother isn’t for me, baby. I want to be free -- not have a son to take care of. I hope you two can live fine from now on.” Keyla replied.

 

Suddenly, a guard approached and asked what that mess was all about.

 

“What’s happening here?” the guard asked.

“Nothing... This old woman here is trying to force me to stay..” Keyla replied.

“I’m sorry, but you can’t force her to do anything. The government said that each human is the only one that can decide its fate -- if they want or not to leave Earth.” the guard replied.

“Actually, I’m her mother. Please, my beloved daughter, stay with me and your son.. We need you! Don’t go! At least not now. It’s dangerous to travel at night. I have a bad feeling about all of this. Please, for the love of God, you need to stay.” Vear replied.

“No, I’m not going to stay! I hate you. I hate you and your beloved grandson. You two are just idiots! I am tired of pretending to like you two. I’m going and no one is going to stop me. I hope to never see you again, momy.” Keyla said, and started to walk towards the airplane she was going to take.

“PLEASE, WAIT MY DAUGHTER!! DON’T GO!!!” Vear screamed and tried to go after her, but the guard forbid her from going any further.

[Sad, frightened by her daughter’s coldness and selfishness, Vear returned to her house, after being wet by the strong rain that started to fall as she started leaving the airport.

 

“Grandmother, where’s Keyla?” Jason said this with tears on his eyes.

“She’s left us alone. She is now going to the New Planet. I’m truly surprised by how she acted, though. I raised a monster. I must be an horrible mother as well. She said so many painful things to me...” Vear replied, with tears on her eyes as well.

“I can’t believe it... She seemed so nice recently.” Jason replied.

“She was just pretending. She wanted to get away without anyone following her. But I was very suspicious of her attitude. She was always mean and selfish, but I would have never guessed that she’d be like this.” Vear replied.

“That’s why I like you more than her. You’re my truly mother, Vear. I love you so much.” Jason said.

“Thank you! But that was one of the main reasons for why she left us. This love we’ve slowly created... She felt like I stole her son. I comprehend it... but she could have done more for you... When you were two years old, she practically left all the responsibility with me... We’re alone now.” Vear replied.

“She left this note...” Jason said and showed her the note.

 

Meanwhile, at the airplane, before they took off, Keyla heard a woman that worked there saying that if anything happens, there’s a special, mini transport, like an airplane, that can take only one person, but is ready to go to the New Planet. It was inside the airplane, but in a secret room.

But I have kinda weird question. When you were describing how the world looks now ( deadly sunlight, wild animals, diseases... ) I kinda hardly imagine how people have jobs or how things like schools, banks or computers still exsist. Sorry if I'm messing with your story, but I just can't imagine how the whole story runs if Earth's like that.

 

But keep going either way I like it!

Encore encore. Please you should write more if you can. It's understandable if you can't thought. Coming up with ideas while dealing with things like school, family matters, and while getting good sleep and eating good. This story is the best story I have ever read. Don't ever stop writing.

Chapter 3.3 - Everything for Survival

 

Desperate, and with an enormous rage of her daughter, Vear tore Keyla’s note in countless tiny pieces.

 

“Why did you do that, grandmother?” Jason asked.

“If she wants to forget about us, we, too, should forget her once and for all. Besides, I’m fine with this situation -- only the two of us. It’s actually much better.” Vear replied.

“But grandmother -- she’s still my mom and your daughter...” Jason said.

“She was my daughter. If she wants it that way, then so be it. About she still being you mom after this, it’s up to you to decide.” Vear replied.

“I guess I gotta think...” Jason said.

“Anyway, it’s very late. Let’s go to sleep, it’s almost 4:00am... Damn, thanks to her -- we’re still awake. I’m going to my room. May God bless you!” Vear said this and left to her room.

“I should sleep too... Bye, grandmother. See ya tomorrow.” Jason replied and went to his room as well.

 

Meanwhile, at the airplane, Keyla was enjoying the trip. She had really turned into a cold person -- it seemed like she had absolutely no feelings. After all, she had just broken every relationship with the small family she had left, and now she was completely alone -- and worse, in a foreign Planet.

 

“Do you want some champagne?” the woman asked.

“Yes, please. And quick.” Keyla replied.

“Okay. I will bring it in a few minutes. May you enjoy your trip.” the woman said.

 

It would still take more five or six hours to arrive in the New Planet, and so Keyla decided to sleep.

 

As Vear could not sleep, in the next hour, she went to Keyla’s room, and many memories came to her head -- like a big movie.

 

First, she remembered when Keyla was a kid. Everything was easier back then. But, even then, strangely, the two of them did not have a big relationship. Actually, thinking better, Vear noticed that her daughter never really liked her so much. In the past, Keyla would stay almost all the time Vear’s mother, Rita, while Vear was working hard, day after day, to guarantee the food for all of the family.

 

When Keyla was a teenager, Vear remembered that most of the time, she was with her friends, hanging out. But, with her, she spent only one or two hours per day. Maybe it was Vear’s mistake to let her with her mother all the time -- she had been such a spoiled girl. No limits were created, and now, it was too late to even try.

 

When Rita got her money, the first thing she would do was go to the shopping, buying new clothes, some chocolate, and all the things Keyla asked her. But Vear couldn’t help -- if she didn’t work, then things would have been harder. They would only have her mother’s money, which was less than 700$.

 

In the next room, Jason kept crying all night -- he really could not sleep. Vear heard him crying, and so she went to his room. She cried alongside him -- both of them were truly sad. They did not know how Keyla’s personality really was until that faithful day.

 

Vear still had a bad feeling about Keyla’s travel -- not even her could say what it was -- maybe maternal instinct?

 

After four hours, Keyla and the others were near to arrive on Miteyp. But, destiny was against them.

 

“We are going to crash soon. The controls stopped working. Please, pray for our lives. And try to remain calm.” A voice said this and everyone on the airplane was able to hear it. Everyone started screaming, and some, prayed.

 

However, Keyla saw when the captain and a woman that worked there passed by, and followed them. She was almost sure that they would take her to the secret transport that could save her life.

“Mr. Fytu, how are we going to get out?” the woman asked.

“We? I’m sorry, but only one person is allowed to go on the PWF-0005. And that will be me.” the captain replied.

“But sir... Will you simply let me die here?” the woman said.

“I’m afraid I’ll.” the captain replied.

 

Keyla stood watching, and as the two of them started to fight, she carefully approached the two of them. The captain did not notice her, and so he opened the secret door. The woman punched him in the face, and he managed to seriously injure her. But that woman was determinate to live -- even hurt, she continued to follow the captain. And so Keyla kept following them as well.

 

The secret room was bigger than Keyla could have imagined. The captain hurried as quick as he could, but even hurt, the other woman kept following him. Keyla picked the knives she had put in her bag, and slowly walked after the two of them.

 

Finally, the captain had arrived near the transport. But the other woman managed to bite his arm, and then, after struggling a lot, he finally managed to make her faint. Even hurt, he kept walking towards the vehicle.

 

“Haha, you’re not the one who’s going to be alive. It’s me.” Keyla said this while holding two knives, and other was on her pocket.

“What? Who are you? What--? Knives?” the captain replied.

“Yeah, baby. Don’t worry, though. If you cooperate, I won’t hurt you. When the airplane falls, you’ll die, anyway.” Keyla said.

 

The captain was very weak, and Keyla simply kicked him, and he fell, almost without any energy left.

 

“Ahahahahahahaahaha! Idiots! All of you. May you perish... I hope you guys go to the he--” Keyla said this when she tried to make the transport work, but it needed a password.

“Tell me the password, NOW!” Keyla said.

“No, I won’t tell you anything.” the captain replied.

“10 minutes before crashing.” a voice said this to everyone in the airplane.
