The Things You Hate In Video Games

Recommended Posts

I decided to make thread to discuss about things that annoy you in video games. Now I'm not talking about things that apply on one game, more like that apply on games or game genre in general. For example you can't complain about one certain boss in some game, but you can complain about Ice Levels or long loading screens.

Now what I hate most about video games: (platformers)

Swimming levels: These are usually those levels that take me the most of time and patience. Controls are different, usually more sluggish and the bosses are so annoying.

Listening music when you play and talk to mic: (online multiplayers)

It's very, very annoying when someone blasts music and talk to mic same time and you are forced to listen whatever annoying song they are listening. Especially is they are humming it.

Stealing loot from other players: (Co-op games)

This is extremely annoying. There are those times: after defeating hard boss you know that you are going to get something good. What happens? Some random dude runs and picks up everything and you got nothing. Sucks to be me.

Non team playing people: (Team based online games):

Yeah, it feels awesome when your team loses. Mainly because you have 4 snipers doing nothing in your team and refusing to do useful just because sniper is their favorite class.

Cheap random death traps:

I don't think I need to explain too much how there is random fall of death in game and you can do nothing about it.

Too long tutorials:

I rather learn to play game by myself and small tip are enough if I need to figure out something,.

-Cheap Enemy Placing.

I tell you, certain games would be a LOT easier if they didn't put certain enemies on certain places (Dat Contra 3)

-Clichéd Villains

(I'm looking at you Ex Death)

I'll think of some more.

Platformers:

  • Slippery Ice Levels.  It seems like a lazy way for a designer to make a level challenging.
  • Water Levels.  They are just annoying and slow.

Multiplayer:

  • I cannot stand it when players just go for kills instead of the objective in an objective match.
  • When players are AFK.
  • When players purposely team-kill.
  • When I feel like I'm doing awful, look at the scoreboard and see I'm doing the best on my team...
  • LAG!
  • Hackers...

hmmm lets see, there are a ton of things that I hate hate hate about video games sometimes.

- People quitting the game in the middle of the match or before it even starts. It's like c'mon do you really have to play on the map thats the only one you're good at? or just because you have 1 kill and 6 deaths, you're gunna quit? talk about cowardice. or maybe there is a legitimate reason you quit, either way. its annoying. just stahp.

- Playing Team Snipers in Halo, when people run around like idiots. Sniper matches are supposed to be wait it out and kill whoever is stupid enough to run out and get in your field of vision. It annoys me to no end when people just rush the other side of the map hoping to get Magnum kills on the enemy spawn. Real snipers in the military must really hate playing Halo, cuz those people can take DAYS to wait for the opportune shot on an enemy target. and I know Halo isn't real life, i'm not saying that. It just sucks when i'm like 2nd place in a sniper match because some kid decides he wants to be Leroy effin Jenkins. end rant.

-Being really awesome online, then splitscreen with my friends is terrible. Feeling like a badass on Halo 4 or CoD or whatever, getting top of leaderboards almost every match kind of thing. Play with friends, get killed every 2 feet -___-

-People raging on their mics. I had an experience with this on Halo 4 a couple of weeks ago. It was an off night, I was sick wasn't really feeling into the game as much as usual. Got 10 kills, and my teammate was FREAKING out yelling and cursing at me, telling me how much I suck. Even though I could care less about my score on these games, getting called out because im not doing as well as i usually do? c'mon man, grow a pair, realize its just a game, and chill the eff out. I even tried politely telling him to chill out, got yelled at some more lol guess thats what i get for using a mic on Xbox Live xD

Multiplayer:

  • I cannot stand it when players just go for kills instead of the objective in an objective match.
  • When players purposely team-kill.

I agree with the objective thing.

and I purposely team-kill if all but one of the enemy team has quit, just to troll and try to best my teammates. The times ive done it though, my team has been pretty cool with it, joining along and going for the other teammates. Its hilarious.

and I admit there was one moment when I killed a teammated because he had the Binary Rifle (type of sniper rifle in case you dont know) in Halo 4 (i play a lot of Halo multiplayer lol)

Well, yeah.  I meant that I hate team-killing if you're in a match that you are trying to win, or taking seriously.  But yeah, if the enemies have quit, and you're just goofing-around with your team, then I agree, it is a lot of fun. :P

I also play a lot of Halo. :3

Leveling up to get through a boss:

Some games aren't bad, but others I find that I have to waste literally HOURS gaining levels to make it through one tiny area.

Long tutorials:

Sure, I like to understand how to play a game, but sometimes it becomes a bit much.  I love the games where an option is offered to skip over tutorials if you're familiar with the game, but those that don't have that option become very annoying.

Water dungeons:

For some reason, I just greatly dislike water dungeons and temples.  They seem to appear in almost every game, and I hate them in every game without fail.

Cheesy villains:

If a villain is doing his job just for the sake of being a villain, it sort of drives me batty.  I prefer it when an antagonist has plenty of depth and offers the players a full reason for his motives.

-Team mates leaving you alone

Yes this is frigging annoying in games like L4D2 and Killing Floor. You are staying in some building with your friends and doing well and suddenly they get idea to run away from there in hope to get more kills and then whole team is doomed.

That they have to end.

Animal Crossing doesn`t do that.

Platformers-

  • Climbing Levels: I know water levels are annoying, but I'll save that for later. Climbing levels normally consist of a LOT of jumping. Because of this, these levels tend to use cheap enemy placements. (Refer to below) Some can be a very fun little dodging area, but others where the platforms change/switch with every jump or other move, well, see a few Mario games, where the level difficulty just goes up high for no apparent reason.
  • Cheap Enemy Placements: Some parts in levels use very clever enemy placements, where you must bounce on it to reach somewhere, or use it destroy the terrain, but these placements, are one of my most Video Game Peeves. You remember those games where it contains that one enemy where it kills you in a single hit? Yeah. Mix that with a nearly impossible jump and a check point far away, or not even one at all!
  • Water bosses: Yes. You're thinking, 'Levels with water are impossible, how come just the bosses?!' Well, the controls for the water levels never messed me up. It was the enemies and bosses placed in a cheap area, sometimes with cheap moves and attacks, as well as defence and speed. Water bosses tend to have more than 2 attacks, and three for those who are fought under the water. Water bosses in 2d platformer will normally use an attack where it fires small orbs in a spiral fashion, and you must either stay in the same place, or move up and down, depending the boss and game.

3D Adventures-

  • Back-Tracking; Zelda games are always great, and most are now just 3D. Ocarina of Time was the only game in the Zelda series, or any 3D Adventure at all where I didn't mind the backtracking. Majora's Mask where you had a Time Limit made the Back Tracking slightly annoying. I say slightly because you can rewind it. Back Tracking will drive some players insane when there are no short-cuts.
  • Climbing Levels: (Refer to Above)

That's all!

-DLC

-Not being able to save to game at any time

-Password save system

-Water levels

-Loading times

-Glitches

-Online hackers

-Online lags

-When you respawn with low health after you just died to give the illusion that the game is hard

-Game freeze before you had the chance to save your progress

-When I stock at the same place for days and I have to check on the Internet how to process further

-NOT BEING ABLE TO SAVE BEFORE CLOUD OF DARKNESS SO WHEN I DIE I HAVE TO REDO AN ENTIRE DUNGEON AND DEFEAT 5 BOSSES!!
