Keyblades really have gotten less unique over time

Posted

Remember back in KH1, when Sora, Riku and Mickey were the only Keyblade wielders? When the Keyblade chose you for the strength of your heart, instead of just being passed down from someone else?

In KH2, Roxas and Kairi got Keyblades. Okay, we'll Roxas is Sora's Nobody and Kairi has a pure heart, so I guess these make sense. Then Xion got a Keyblade. In BBS, things got out of control. Suddenly every single character seems to have a Keyblade (okay, I'm exaggerating, but still). And in DDD, Lea just comes begging for a Keyblade, and he gets one.

I really don't think that's how being a Keyblade wielder should work. I would much rather it if the Keyblade chose its wielders, the way it chose Sora. Keyblades are awesome, but I feel like having so many people with Keyblades just makes them much less special.

Well seeing that before you posted this other people like myself pointed out there were always other wielders shown since the first KH game on you definitely aren't the only one who remembers this. Ju

I care more about characters than weapons. And we've known since KH2 that the keyblade isn't special (as shown by the keyblade graveyard and the three armoured people)... so its not a surprise, really xD

I'm glad people are starting to see the over saturation. I remember trying to explain it to people before, and the typical reply would be something like 'More keyblades = more awesome!' and the like.

I honestly don't see how Nomura is going to deal with this after KH3. Suddenly there's going to be a metric tonne of keyblade wielders, with no real responsibilities. How does that work for a plot? Oh no a villain! I guess us seven thousand keyblade wielders had better go stop him! Gee what tension!

The only solutions I can really see are; killing off characetr en masse, having some characters lose the ability to use the keyblade, or keyblades being made entirely unusable. Or having the characters all go their separate ways for some strange reason.

None of that's desirable.

In KH1, only Sora ever had a keyblade, for the most part. The fact that Riku was one was a big twist, and Mickey having one was actually meaningful

That's terrible though. The keyblade is a very unique concept for a weapon. It SHOULD be special. I mean, it's the only thing that makes SORA special. If keyblades aren't special, then the people who wield them aren't.

i see what you're trying to say by saying you only care about the characters. But the keyblade is a vital part OF any character involved with them. Devaluing the keyblade devalues the character.

The thing is, with the Keyblade Graveyard, it alludes to an ancient time when keyblades were commonplace. It's a mysterious time, we don't know quite what it was like, adn that makes it exciting. Now, each game doesn't seem to feel content unless it adds at least one new keyblade wielder. And it's piling up.

I would much rather it if the Keyblade chose its wielders, the way it chose Sora.

I thought one needs a strong heart and a person who can give it to another one?

So, if the person who should get one does not have a strong heart, he/she cannot wield it.

As seen by Riku it is possible to lose the Keyblade if the heart loses it's strength.

Wasn't Sora made in order to show that there are a "normal kids" or something like this?

I actually have an idea about this... When BBS happened, the ability to use a Keyblade came awful close to extinction. Eraqus was physically dead his heart trapped within Terra's. Terra himself was possessed, and Xehanort either forgot how to use the Keyblade, or abandoned it altogether. Aqua, the only intact Master, was trapped in the Realm of Darkness, thus unable to fulfil any duties related to the Keyblade. And Ventus was comatose. Mickey was in training, and the only other potential wielders were still kids. It could be that the Keyblade, in an attempt to keep its power alive, overcomensated the amount of wielders necessary so that it wouldn't run the risk of extinction again. (The Keyblade has, after all shown some evidence of self awareness in the past.)

I actually saw this coming from KHII, I had developed a theory that the members of the Organization XIII were keybladers and released there own hearts as an experiment. I was Wong, but once I saw the Keyblade Graveyard, I was actually excited about the idea of others other than Sora and Riku! I mean think about it, in this world it's the strongest weapon right, so if no one else has one, there is no challenge for Sora and Riku they will just defeat everyone that they come across!

Pluse isn't the concept of a Keyblade War exciting to you? I can't wait for the epicness that is to come in the Keyblade war!!

I knew at one point Kairi would join the ranks, Lea was a suprise but it makes sense why he wants one, and he does have a strong heart, his wasn't passed down, his strong heart created it. Xion could only use it cause Roxas could.

So anyway for me the concept of the X-blade splitting apart creating 7 lights and 13 Darknesses excites me!!! Can't wait to see our crew take them on!!!!

i dont think so. At least there is more non-keyblade characters. And besides, once MX is defeated we have 13 keyblade wielders less.

See its the way it chose Sora that makes Sora a special case. For no one passed this on on to him, he was chosen by the Keyblade because of the strength in his heart by the connections he has made, and the ability to connect his heart to others! There is something Nomura hasn't told us about Sora yet and I think that's the exciting Mystery of his Keyblade. Everyone else in the game has One that was passed to them from a Master, with the exception now of Lea.

I think keyblades are coming out of extinction.

I remember in kingdom hearts one, I thought there was only one keyblade wielder and that it was so special to be the "chosen one". But now theres like 10 so its not that special anymore lol

But see, the reason Nomura has made so many keyblade wielders is because we're sort of heading towards a possible second keyblade war, although you totally got me with the future games thing; it does seem like there will be too many heroes/ protagonists, and everyone's supposed to be saved after KH3 :P

I was also severely disappointed in Axel/Lea getting a keyblade. That was sort of the final straw. I was fine with Kairi having one, being a princess of heart and all, but Lea? Chakrams are cooler, and Lea having a keyblade was totally fanservice. I mean, most things involving Axel/Lea are total fanservice, but this one takes the cake.

HOWEVER, you shouldn't say it makes keyblade wielders not special or anything; compare the amount of characters we have and keep in mind that they're supposed to watch over the entire multiverse, which is infinitely vast. I could easily see them in the future having to split up to protect different corners of the world later on. The problem is, yeah, at first Sora was the only one with a keyblade, but that's because Keyblades were pretty much almost extinct. The whole point is that the keyblade is making a return, sort of like return of the jedi. I mean, you see what happened in kh1; sure, it only took one Sora to defeat Ansem, but before that, hundreds of worlds were destroyed over the years, and Mickey had to go find a keyblade of darkness. I'm kind of spewing random nonsense because I'm tired, but you catch my drift. The worlds have been in danger, and present danger calls for more than a few keyblade wielders.

well the keyblade isnt really something that special from what we saw in BBS( it was like a keyblade market xD) so that means anybody can weild the keyblade. but they have to have a strong enough heart to weild it and if they dont have a strong enough heart, then they have to train there heart to become to stronger xD or something like that

ven's heart is inside him remember????..so in a way the power was passed down to him

But the passing of the Keyblade requires the physical contact with someone elses. Plus when Ven's Heart went to rest in Sora's his Keyblade was shatterd during the fight with Vanitas. So its still Sora is special in that he never had the physical passing of the torch so to speak. The Kingdom Key, which I believe is special....chose Sora for his strength of Heart. Cause remember it was originally supposed to go to Riku...

Its the type of Keyblade that makes it special. There are three versions remember. Those of Light and Darkness, are man made versions of Kingdom Hearts. Then there are the Keys that are versions of Kingdom Hearts that chose there masters. Then the X-Blade.

still that might have had it's part in the way :)

It does, the connection that Ven has with Sora is what gives Sora his strength of Heart which allowed the Keyblade to chose him

so that goes in conclusion that Sora wasn't chosen 100% by his own :PPP

Pretty soon Donald and Goofy will have their own keyblades

Yeah, it probably was mostly fanservice. While part of me thinks it's awesome, part of me is kind of pissed off about it. He could have easily stuck with his chakrams and still been a great hero.

Oh god, no. If this happens, I will really hate Nomura.

Yes and No

Yes, let's take Kairi. She doesn't need to have a keyblade. That right there made me feel that the keyblade is losing its importance. Tbh, they should have let her character die out until the PoH are back in the picture. Yeah, she accidentally touched Aqua's keyblade, but you would think that something so special wouldn't be passed down so easily. That makes me so pissed. Just because you weild a keyblade doesn't mean that you are capable of becoming a master ex. Terra and Sora. Being PoH doesn't give you an excuse to have the awesome powers of the keyblade.

No, because we have awesome weilders and knowledgable people that have one like Mickey, Sora, Riku, and Aqua.

Nomura should kill off some of the keyblade weilders in the end by half.

I've been ok with everyone that's had a Keyblade, it's been estalished why they have one and what-not, I just don't like it when a character who's been around for a while suddenly comes out like, 'oh hey, I can wield one too, all I had to do was demand some quick training. >8D' I guess that's my main problem with Lea, but like I've said before, I'm getting over it; there's no use brooding over it. It's been done, and I will learn to accept it...eventually. uwu

so that goes in conclusion that Sora wasn't chosen 100% by his own :PPP

How so? It is his light that saved Ven, its his heart that is making these connections. It is his strength that gave him the power to wield the Keyblade. Not the otherway around. You remember without Sora lending his heart to Ven at the begining Ven would have died.

Sora is strong all on his own. And the Keyblade chose him for this reason, there is something special about him and his connection to the Keyblade.

but when they're small they're heart is filled with light...even Riku's heart was filled with light but then he fell into darkness...we can make assumptions all day long :P..the truth is Sora was the first we saw to control the keyblade and at that time we didn't know anything of these other things :P

Maybe all the legends about "THERE CAN ONLY ONE" were about the X-blade?

It's the X-blade and not some Keyblade that opens the path to KH/KH.

Pretty soon Donald and Goofy will have their own keyblades

Yen Sid: "You two? That would be...inadequate."

I'm quoting this wherever possible lol
