Isn't Sora Good Enough For You People?

Featured Replies

Many will disagree. It's a thing that will always happen with those who fear change or new ideas.

Yes, that is true. Still, I do see where they are coming from.

Sora is symbolic to the Kingdom Hearts series, after all, the boy has so many hearts linked in his own, and the mischief and misadventures that he, Donald and Goofy get involved in are nothing but entertaining.  I know what you mean Mr. James.  Don't get me wrong, I love all the other characters, each of them has their own amazing backstory and conflict and personality, but like you, I've missed playing as Sora.  Kingdom Hearts 3 will finally give us the opportunity to play as Sora again after 8 years, 8 years!  I mean, sure, I've played as him time and time again in the remasters and replayed my old Kingdom Hearts games, but I want to be able to play as him in Kingdom Hearts 3.  I'll obviously enjoy the opportunity to play as other characters, but I agree that Sora should be the main choice. :)

Ever since Kingdom Hearts III was announced, I have been reading people say "I really want to play as (insert name)", for pretty much every character, except Sora.

Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Axel/Lea, Roxas, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, and even Xion. People seem so hyped for these other characters, but it appears that no one wants to join Sora, Donald, & Goofy for another adventure. Why?

I love all of the characters in the series, and since Kingdom Hearts II's release I have also enjoyed playing as other characters, but I think it's time to get back on track. No more side characters taking the spotlight. No more temporary party members. No more Dream Eaters in my party. No odd, experimental leveling system. No... more.. DISTRACTIONS!!!

I remember seeing the image below and absolutely loving it. Not just because it was new or in HD, but because what it represented. I wasn't going to be some new/side character on a solo journey. I was going to be Sora, and I was going on an adventure with my loyal buddies Donald & Goofy. No offense to the other characters, but I hope the only Keyblade wielder I play as, is this guy right here:

KH2 had multiple playable characters and THAT worked with NO distractions, or did you completely forget?

And Nomura already discussed that Mickey, Riku, and possibly Kairi are being UNDER CONSIDERATION TO BE PLAYABLE. So there's that. >.>

Of course not, but those were short instances in the game while keeping the main focus on Sora. My issue isn't with the other characters or playing as them. My problem is that it seems like people want Kingdom Hearts III to play like Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, where playtime is divided evenly among a set of characters.By this point there is obviously way too many characters to keep the camera solely on Sora the entire time, I just don't like that after all these years he doesn't seem to be getting any love from the fans.I know Nomura has stated that he is considering other characters, which is exciting for newcomers like Kairi and Mickey, but he also said that SORA IS THE MAIN CHARACTER. So there's that.

If KH3 plays anything like DDD or BBS it would be a colossal disappointment. Sure those games were good since they were side stories but the main games need to be of a higher caliber.

I want Sora to be the character we play as the most and him be the focus of the whole story but I really want as much playtime as possible with all the other important characters too.

KH1&2 were about Sora and his close friends but it's evolved from that to being about Sora and all the people connected to him through various circumstances, so it would be nice if the gameplay reflected that and let us get more attached to these people by playing as them while we also clean things up as Sora.

That makes sense. I certainly wouldn't object.

I would not mind playing just as Sora. He is the main character. However, I love the setup of FFXIII. It should be like that.

But honestly, I don't really feel excited to play Kairi and Lea. I could really care firetrucking less. Well, I except I would like to play the Isa and Lea battle, but there is no battle to forward to with Kairi. I want to see how this ends. I invested this much might as well see the end.

I doubt I will be here for KH4.

Maybe people want other characters because Sora is a Mary Sue? Don't get me wrong, I like him, but the other characters provide a much more interesting perspective that would be nice to have in addition to Sora's.

Oh gawd, if they want to play as those characters they can just play mission mode in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Sure, but the moment I find other characters to play as, I'll jump right in. It'll probably be as side quests, like the demes example others have said. Even if it's minor ones like with Riku during the final battles. (Alrgough I'd love for that to evolve further.)

And for anyone who tells me go play past games:

Sora will always be my favourite main character to play as. But if in some LITTLE parts of KH3 we could play as Ventus/Aqua, I would really enjoy it. But I want Sora to be the main character of the WHOLE KH series.

Maybe we can play as Ansem.

Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with folks these days....Sora is fine!
