Your favorite film from The Disney Renaissance?

Posted

What is your favorite film from The Disney Renaissance and why?

For those who don't know what the Disney Renaissance is, to quote the Disney Wiki, "The Disney Renaissance refers to an era beginning roughly in the late 1980s and ending around 2000 during which Walt Disney Animation Studios returned to making successful animated films mostly based on well-known stories, restoring public and critical interest in Disney."

These films include,

The Little Mermaid

The Rescuers Down Under

Beauty and the Beast

Aladdin

The Lion King

Pocahontas

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Hercules

Mulan

Tarzan

My personal favorite from the bunch boils down to Beauty and the Beast. Frozen ain't got nothing on that one! It's the perfect Disney fairy tale that follows its source material more than Frozen did. The romance is perfect, the songs are perfect, the animation is Disney and therefore great, and the characters are great.

Now, what about you guys?

Just curious...

Well, i've seen those movies. And i liked them all. Can't choose either one ^_^;.

Also, i liked Frozen. A lot. And so does my 3-year-old nephew, whose favorite character happens to be Elsa.

Hercules and Mulan are the only ones I've seen recently, so I'm going with Hercules. It helps that I'm really into mythology. xD

Tarzan and Hercules

They were my fav because they got an amazing story

The Lion King is one of my all time favorite movies. It's one of my most nostalgic movies. When I was a kid, I watched that movie so much, I memorized every line and every lyric to the point where I used to annoy the hell out of my family. I can't do that now, though. I can't think of this movie they way I could with any other movie about script, story, animation, etc. This movie is a force of nature that you can't help but be engrossed in. I'm pretty sure everyone has a movie like this. This movie is my childhood. This movie is in my soul, and I could never not love it.

My dad loved that movie when he was younger :). He told me himself.

The part that I bolded, you're going to want to reword that. Right now, you are implying you prefer Frozen over BatB. Later on in the sentence, you claim the opposite. Any way, I'm going to have to say The Lion King is in second. I want to say The Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favorite, but I've never actually watched it. In fact, that's why I'm reading the book right now. Although Hellfire is definitely one of the best Disney Villain songs.

Oh, okay. Thanks. Also, I agree. Hellfire is definitely one of the bests Disney villain songs.

You're welcome, it's what I do. I think one of the reasons Lion King is second, is because of Be Prepared. I also know a version of it, which deals with the Valeyard of all things. I also love to sing Hellfire to myself, I like it that much.

Tarzan.

Mostly because of this lady here:

Mulan for me, I love that film to death and it's my #1 favorite Disney film of all time.

Aladdin, Mulan or The Lion King. I can't decide :S

Well from that era I'd have to say Aladdin. I relate to the central character and It's my second favorite Disney movie of  all time.

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite. The Lion King comes in a close second though.

Definitely The Lion King! That movie is my childhood and I always loved all the characters, all the songs, and the entire story. (Plus, Hans Zimmer's score is godly in this film, it's just astounding!) (Not like Frozen's score by Christophe Beck, it just felt too repetitive and bland, except for the Opening chant)

It's definitely The Lion King, the movie was perfect in every way, the story, the songs, and characters especially Nala(my favorite character). It was my childhood but I love the other Disney movies that came out in that era as well.

I really love all of them, but my favorite would definitely be Tarzan. The soundtrack is stunningly beautiful; every time I hear "Two Worlds", "You'll Be in My Heart", and "Strangers Like Me" I feel simultaneously nostalgic and untroubled/at peace. I know that kinda sounds corny but this movie really makes me happy lol.

And I love the art in scenes like these

Well I mean I love most of the art in Disney movies, but I especially love how they captured the jungle in this movie haha

I loved Mulan, it was just so vibrant and pretty and I loved the songs! The second for me is Aladdin. I loved Genie. c:

Wasnt the Stone in the Sword in this? If not then Mulan, damn I love that movie

Well, I've seen almost all the movies of the Disney Renaissance, and I have to say that I love all of them! :D  But if I have to pick a personal favorite, it's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame.  It's one of the darkest Disney films I've seen, and I love how it's so sinister and how it touches on themes like religion, making us think how people react to it and act through it, like Judge Frollo.  He uses religion as an excuse to commit atrocities to the gypsies, which he says are "evil and sinful."  He's slaughtering people, and that goes against God's wishes, so yeah, he's a twisted man using religion for his own personal gain.  I love Quasimodo's character because of how conflicted he is, and Esmerelda is possibly the sexiest Disney female character I've ever seen!  I mean seriously, she's a hell of a woman!  But yeah, The Hunchback is definitely my favorite.  Beauty and the Beast comes a close second, and The Lion King comes in third place. :3

All of those movies! Being a big fan of all things Disney, how could I pick just one?

but if I had to pick it would be either Aladdin or Mulan.

Alice in Wonderland seemed to at least be my favorite for awhile, concidering how many times i re-watched it.

But i'm not fully sure now what i like best. xD They are all pretty epic...

I really love Beauty and the Beast. Visually stunning, the story is great, it has the best musical number, our two main leads are well written and interesting, and one of the best villains.

No one makes movies like Gaston.
