I can imagine KH3 will be VERY long, as you just said, there's a lot of plotholes, and I think they'll explain all of them in it.

Edited by JustBetweenYouAnd-I

They could just take a few into the next saga. I mean, Roxas, Xion and Axel can just hang around together at peace in Twilight Town or something. Tera, Aqua and Ven could rebuild Land of Departure and live there. They could also train Keyblade Wielders.

I do hope however that Sora, Riku and Kairi make it to the next Saga. Especially Kairi, I want to see more of her and her Keyblade skills.

That's the problem I'm worried about too. Like, obviously all of these elements introduced in the story will be tied together in KH3, but like... what happens after that? Unless Nomura already has an escape mechanism in place and is withholding important information like he always does, I don't see how Kingdom Hearts can continue after KH3 unless either Xehanort really isn't defeated or they retread on ground that was already covered.

Maybe there'll be something like "Oh no the only way we can stop MX now is by doing something that would cost all of us our ability to ever wield a keyblade again...well of us except the main character who'll need it for the sequel"

Sora will, I don't see why Riku and Kairi wouldn't

But don't you see? People would be SO unsatisfied is they just sent Roxas Lea and Xion off to Twilight Town. You can't just ship these characters off adn ignore thm, the fans are invested. And if they train keyblade wielders, that just prolongs the inevitable problem, that being "Why does Sora have to deal with this? There are like a hundred keyblade wielders"

There's no escape mechanism I can think of that wouldn't be REALLY lame

So mass sacrifice. Doesn't remove the characters though, you're still stuck with a dozen important characters. Do you jsut send them away? Make the fans mad?

Side games...

Yeah, I was also thinking something like that.

I actually think it wouldn't be too hard to have the lot of them settle down after the main game ends. It would be interesting to see what everyone is up to: one of my favorite RPG tropes is waiting during the credits or whatever and seeing what all the main characters are up to these days. Assuming Roxas and Xion come back, they would have the opportunity to actually live their lives for the first time ever, and having a whole world of opportunities ahead of them, it would be neat to see if they pulled a Genie and just went exploring. Same with Lea: he's spent most of his life living to work for someone else, and now that he no longer has a need for skulduggery and deceit, he can actually do something that makes him personally happy. And I'd really like to see what TAV can find to do: given that they're primary motivation in life was to become keyblade masters, trying to give them something to pursue with that might actually flesh out their characters more and give them more interesting purposes in life.

There's a lot of things that the characters can do, it's just a matter of whether or not Nomura can think of anything.

that's all stuff I'd expect

if KH3 was the last game

but it's not

you have characters settle down when the dust settles. But if these characters are around when Sora starts his new adventure in KH4, it creates the Avengers problem. All these characters exist in this universe, why aren't they showing up?

I don't think it'll be a problem if characters leave on their own journeys while Sora, Riku, and Kairi stay to deal with any new threats. Also, while Sora is still going to be the main character that doesn't stop them from letting us play as other characters. KH3 itself seems like it's going to be pretty crowded but I'm sure even as characters get saved/revived they're going to have to split up(like Sora and Riku will) in order to deal with whatever Xehanort sets up so the same pattern could happen in future games.

going on their own journey would work if it was jsut, like, Terra coming back

Having Terra, aqua, Ventus, Roxas, Xion, Lea and whoever else ALL go on a personal journey at the end? Looks a bit silly

There also is the possibility that they show up in certain words.

but then that creates the problem of bringing in the baggage of all of these characters. There's too much that would need to be told about these characters to justify them being there, which would distract from the core story

If they're all part of the core story, the problem becomes being spread too thin

Well, if there's one thing that FF X-2 did right, it was showing that Lulu and Wakka got married after the game and settled down, giving a good reason why they aren't still out adventuring. Basically, if the characters have something legitimate that is occupying their time instead of compelling them to adventure, then I think it covers all the bases.

Like, for instance, if Terra now sees that obsessing about becoming a keyblade master was what led him down a path of ruin, he might decide that there are other parts of life that he should explore and give worth to. And who knows, maybe Aqua comes with. Things like that can give characters a good reason to stay out of the limelight.

I'm worried about the post-KH3 stuff too. Unless there's something interesting and meaningful enough to keep me going, it's more likely that I'll just let the franchise end with dignity simply by not paying attention to anything past KH3. Who says willful ignorance is always bad?

That's coming up with a reason for two characters though. It gets weirder the more there are. It also gets weirder when all the people involved can wield keyblades, since those are by their nature calls to action. Something could happen that takes everyone's keyblade away, but that's not really satisfying to msot viewers, and keyblades are fairly iconic anyways, so they'd have to find a reason for them to come back, anyways.

Like I said in an earlier post, if it was just Terra, or someone, who needed saving, it'd be EASY to find a way to write them out. But not so much when you set a goal of saving half a dozen people who all wield super powerful weapons that attract dark beings and all of whom have a very strong drive to fight evil. If you knock them all off the map, it looks lazy. Keep them all? Spread too thin. Drop some? Fans of the ones that get dropped wonder why their favourite character gets left behind while others don't.

There isn't really a simple solution here. People suggest them all joining together to forma keyblade academy or something, but unless they handle that as well as the Justice League cartoon I can only see that ending in disaster

SRK are making it into the next saga, Nomura confirmed it. Its everyone else we have to worry about.

Why would it look silly? Terra, Aqua, and Ventus would be at the Land of Departure to fulfill their duties as keyblade wielders like maybe cleaning up the aftermath of Xehanort's war. Roxas, Xion, and Namine would go off traveling to create some happy memories since they were only alive for a year and still need to get their own sense of self. Lea and Isa would probably go with them. If they have their spotlight in KH3 then they don't need to make a big splash in other games.

On top of that, there is without a doubt going to be a lot more worlds introduced after KH3. They'll probably say those worlds were freed after the events in KH3. That would expand the universe enough for it to make sense for older characters to be out of contact (or at least not have as much contact) with Sora, Riku, and Kairi.

Lastly, it's going to be hard making an interesting story even if it was only Sora left. They'll probably more BbS-type games or sections where we control old and new KH original characters. Which would keep the story from getting too crowded or explain why all the characters can't immediately gather to fight the new enemies.

P1- It doesn't look silly because of what the characters, it's pushing the half dozen characters under the rug. Anda gain, it'd almost definitely anger the fans who want to actually see those characters

P2- there isn't really a way to justify these characters being out of contact when the last two numbered games both involved Sora searching the entire universe to find his friends (and he succeeded) and again, it's jsut an excuse tog get rid of the characters at that point, isn't that a waste?

P3- It's not hard to make an interesting story while only playing as a single character. It's significantly harder to make an interesting story when you have a dozen characters you need to give attention to

I guess I could sort of see KH3 ending in a way similar to KH2, where all the characters return to their homes after the final battle and then whatever happens to them afterwards is left up to the players imagination.

which, again

Well I'm assuming that seeing as this is the Xehanort Saga, characters like TAV will be left alone for sure in the next saga since their stories should be concluded in KH3. Characters are gonna have to be dropped in the next saga and that trio makes the most sense to drop since they have the strongest connections to Xehanort, who will no longer be the main focus anymore after KH3. As for Roxas and Lea they can have small parts in the next saga if anything.

Happy Ending is a problem to me. I guess i would like it but its not the ending i want.

Its a war. 7 vs 13.

Someone of the good ones has to "die". I would choose terra sacrificing himself.

For the next saga I would like

Vanitas remain alive as anti hero.

Riku having a student (that connects in some way with the new bad guys)

More Kairi

A villain that uses light instead of darkness. A woman would be cool.

A new weapon that rivals the keyblade

Just think up some new threats and conflicts. There are more solutions to a problem like this than you realize. It sounds like the only problem is that there are too many possibilities. Not a bad problem to have if you ask me. Better than being stuck with one choice that you know isn't going to be good.

P1- I wouldn't say it's pushing them under the rug if they're moving on. Not all of the main characters set out to be warriors (only the BbS trio) so having them venture off won't be so bad plus fans will always have something they don't like; I'm sure KH3 will leave people unsatisfied with how characters are handled (like if Kairi doesn't actually fight etc).

P2- In both numbered games Sora found his friends only because they were right next to the villains. In particular, in KH1, maleficent was pitting Riku and Sora against each other, while Riku had Kairi's body. In KH2, the trio only meet up because Sora and Riku were going to fight Org 13 and Saix brought Kairi there. Before that they were going around aimlessly and didn't come in contact. So with the expanded universe and simple things like an emergency popping up before Sora can fly off and gather everyone, would justify some characters sitting out for a while.

P3- I meant hard in terms of the KH series where we already have a keyblade wielding villain who in multiple forms tried to obtain Kingdom Hearts. Whatever happens next probably will revolve around Kingdom Hearts since it's the title of the series but while there are some good stories they could do with that there are also a lot of bad/repetitive stories they could come up with so it wouldn't necessarily be better/easier to write if it was just Sora.

I get your concerns though as not only the number of characters but the scale of things in general has increased and with Xehanort falling in KH3 it will be tricky to start anew with all these elements in place. Ultimately, we need to see how KH3 goes as that might give some satisfying conclusion to some characters.

If some of the ones that Sora is "connected" to die, then half of the main motivation of the story is gonna go straight down the shitter. (And by that I mean it would have been pointless.)
