What's with Once Upon A Time and Supernatural practically stealing stuff from KH? Once Upon A Time took the Light and Darkness thing as well as Yen Sid[his hat is in OUAT], the Disney part[thanks a lot Frozen], and the main character being the one to stop everything bad[at least Sora was actually a NORMAL person before Ven and not the child of Snow White], while Supernatural took the Light and Darkness thing as well, and something about keys. They even put the word KINGDOM in some places! Seriously, they've become Kingdom Hearts without Kingdom Hearts!

And those things you mentioned are totally original right? :D The light and darkness -thing is probably one of the most overused themes I know (though I must say, it's handled quite nicely in KH), and 'main character having to save the world from evil' isn't that uncommon either.

I couldn't decide if this was meant to be a joke, though, since this is in Random, but you sounded serious.

Or you are one of those KH fanbois who thinks that everything is stolen from KH.Up to you.

No. I'm not. Supernatural and OUAT suddenly started talking about light and darkness and keys and such, in which KH already did back in 2002, while these two shows were made after it. But seriously, some of the recent Supernatural posts on tumblr say that season 11 is going to be just like KH!And I'm actually laughing.

Well, Supernatural and OUAT are handling it exactly like KH did. Supernatural is even mentioning stuff about keys for crying out loud. And to be honest, I'm laughing. Because KH was made at a time when the light and darkness theme was not overused, and Supernatural/OUAT were made after. But one part of me is not laughing. They just suddenly went to light and darkness/key stuff, when before that they had a different premise.

Ok ok. I am a huge Once Upon a Time fan (if you are talking about the ABC show) and I can say that I saw no resemblance to KH. They have never spoken of "keys" before, unless I am seriously missing something. The "light" and "darkness" which you speak of has been represented in many, many stories. They wanted to show the fact of the villians fighting the heroes (light vs darkness). They have also been incorporating this since the beginning of the series. And the fact that they incorporate Disney characters has to do with the fact that it is about FAIRYTALES in general. They are not taking the ideas straight from the movies. Frozen was awkward to throw in there I believe, but it did give the show more popularity for the people who just wanted to see Frozen. Also, ABC is owned by Disney, so that's another reason why they put Disney characters in there. In my opinion, the show is more for the Grimm Brothers versions of the fairytales and not the Disney versions. So yeah, in my opinion, you may be reading into this show a bit more than needed. Again, just my opinion.

Really? Lots of people are even saying that they're getting KH vibes from it. But I could be looking into it too much.

I would really have to look into KH to see but from my POV as a OUAT fangirl, I don't see it :P

Well, I haven't catched up with OUAT (still stuck in the middle of the third season), and never watched Supernatural to begin with, so maybe I'm not the best person to talk about this topic. But based on what you wrote, I don't think it's about ripping off of Kingdom Hearts, the creators of  those series probably aren't even that familiar with KH to begin with.

And for what you said about light and darkness not being overused when KH was made, I disagree. Light and darkness have been used as a metaphor for good and evil for ages, Kingdom Hearts didn't introduce that concept so you can't really give it the credit for that.

//edit. Just noticed that Kaweebo said about the same thing about light/dark as I wanted to, and probably better but anyways... :D

I see it. One person even said that OUAT was the concept of KH turned into a TV show, then corrected themselves into saying that it's just like KH because of one character who used a key to travel to another world. Another person said that the recent season finale of OUAT made them think of KH, and a bunch of other people said different things involving it and KH. As for Supernatural, those kinds of posts just came out of nowhere.

If you want to get technical, Final Fantasy handled the concept of Light and Darkness being actual, tangible things way before Kingdom Hearts did it. To say that they are stealing from KH is ludicrous because KH isn't the first one to deal with subjects like that and neither is FF. Light and darkness are concepts that stretch back centuries in terms of light being 'good' and dark being 'bad'. Of course OUAT had Yen Sid's hat because Yen Sid is a Disney character...how is this stealing from KH? There may be similarities here and there between Supernatural and KH, I don't know because I don't watch Supernatural, but I think it's a pretty big leap to assume that the people making the show deliberately lifted things from this game series that is completely unrelated in every other way.

OUAT made darkness an actual tangible thing[which I guess is both KH and FF]. OUAT was meant to be a show that had the original fairy tale versions of what we ended up growing up with, then for some reason Disney's version of Frozen appeared outta nowhere and Yen Sid's hat appeared outta nowhere. As for Supernatural[which I learned of from a friend], it just literally came out of nowhere. I originally made this thread as a joke you know.

Light and Darkness is a common trope for displaying two opposite sides.  Kingdom Hearts wasn't the first to use it nor will it be the last.  Heck you can go back to the Bible's Heaven and Hell as a typical Light VS Darkness.  That is like saying someone stole from McDonald's cause they sell French Fries too.

In addition the sorcerer's hat has been a part of Disney's own media since Fantasia, Kingdom Hearts didn't create it.   It has been included in Fantasia, House of Mouse, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Mickey's 60th Birthday, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and its sequel (cameo) and Sofia the First, as well as the live action The Sorcerer's Apprentice and there is a giant replica of it in a Disney Park.  Seeing as Once is made by Disney's Studios, they are of course in the right to use their own symbols for it, Disney merely allow Square Enix to use it in Kingdom Hearts.

And normality in the protagonist doesn't really matter.  Sora was "normal" but he was the Chosen one, like Emma is the savior.  You can tell he has skill and conviction above normal people, considering he's meant to be at the level of a master yet doesn't have the title.

Read the later post that it's a joke, don't care I wrote this much it's getting posted.

OUAT is pretty much ALL about Light and Darkness: (Yes, I'm being defensive here) the whole point of the show is Good versus Evil, or at least what is DEEMED good and evil, plus the hope for redemption, the chance to change, love, and family.

Which is also what KH deals with.

Besides using the Disney elements, I'm not seeing how Yen Sid's hat makes it a KH rip off. Plus, using the word "Kingdom" could also apply to The Kingdom Keepers books.

And Emma was "Normal" ish: she had no powers or skills for the first two seasons. Her parentage didn't matter: she was just a regular woman trying to cope with all this fairy tale stuff being shoved onto her at once.

And as said before, the idea of good and evil is an old one, and is present in every work of fantasy ever written or put to film, from (Slightly off topic) Tolkein to J.K Rowling and beyond.

As for Supernatural, I can't say: I don't watch it.

I definitely see resemblance in OUAT. But that's because I knew of KH before that. And OUAT is made by Disney so...

Speaking of Supernatural.....  I CAN'T FREAKING WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON. IF THEY DON'T BRING GOD IN THIS NEXT SEASON IM GOING TO FLIP SHIT!!!

Guys please no arguing. Behave, my friends, behave! Please keep it friendly. Thanks! :)
