Main reason-I'd like Testuya Nomura to take a break from this job.

 

Look at this quote from Hajime Tabata, the director of FF15

 

"You'd be appalled," says Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy 15. "Just as a reference, I sleep maybe three hours each day. It's difficult every day ...

"There is a sense that this is shortening my lifespan. But it's all worth it."

 

This man has been working on FF15 since September 2014 and has worked on 3 handheld games prior to working on the game. If this guy only gets 3 hours of sleep, then you can imagine how stressed Nomura is?

 

Nomura had worked on XV/Versus for about 9 years before he stepped down, KH1, KH2, the handheld games, 1.5, 2.5, 2.8, Kingdom Hearts 3 and is now directing  the biggest game of the past 10 years-FF7R.

 

Not to mention the numerous character designs, monster designs and creative production for nearly every Final Fantasy game (including Theatrhythm and other FF side games).

 

It's best if he finishes KH3, focuses his time on FF7R and then takes a vacation for a while. Oh and here comes the

 

"Nomura would say if he was stressed! Jeez he's fine!"

 

Tabata just happens to be very open and outgoing, Nomura keeps to himself a lot so it's not surprising he never mentions it, also he's never been asked about personal stuff like this. But it's safe to assume. The guy has the biggest game of the past 10 years on his shoulders currently, give him a little break, I fear for the man's health.

It's not normal for any human being to have this much pressure, by any standard, and all game developers/programmers/producers have a lot of stress,  not just Japanese ones.

It is when you're conditioned to deal with the workload. If your body is used to working a 40/50 hour week, you'll be able to handle that load much better then someone who is used to working a 30 hour workload. Everyone is different, and the human body is an amazing thing. I'm sure they get burnt out now and again but it might not be as bad as it seems from your point of view.

Yes, a lot of developers have stress, but Nomura has "positive stress", because he actually enjoys his work passionately and let his creativity out.

 

That's not something we should see negatively.

I believe I said this in another thread regarding Tabata's comments, but when it comes to people in this specific kind of field where theyre really passionate about what they do, they can push on through despite how stressful it might be. It might be a different job, but I know animators like Glen Keane who love what they do so much that they just cant really stop doing what he does(that being animation) because he loves to do it.

 

If you want me to draw comparison to a game developer, look at Sakurai. That guy had some serious health issues when developing the latest Smash Bros, but what does he do when he finally finishes the game? He doesnt take a vacation, but has instead decided to work on one of his other projects.

 

These guys clearly love what they do, and if they wanna keep going despite how stressful it may be, let them. Theyre clearly devoted to their work.

The reason why I don't want a sequel for a while, 4 or 5 years at the very least, is that if a sequel came, 1, 2, even 3 years after KHIII came out, it is more than likely that KHIV would have been a rushed mess, maybe not gameplay wise but story wise. They need to think of a really good concept for the next Saga, one that doesn't leave loose ends open from the Dark Seeker Saga like "Oh Master Xehanort's not dead, his soul is still embodied in blah blah blah" things like that. They need to pull a really original concept. Like what if someone who is actually on the side of the lights disturbs the balance? What if it's someone, not so much like Eraqus, but someone who is obsessed with the tyranny of light over darkness. I want a REALLY original concept. firetruck it "Kingdom Hearts IV: Sora's Midlife Crisis."

From KH3 onwards, any spin offs should be on a HOME CONSOLE, no more handheld rubbish and if they do continue making main installments from then on, they should all have good time lapses between them like the FF series, 4-5 years.

Well Nomura has already confirmed himself that he has plans for a sequel after KHIII, that much is confirmed. 

 

Plus I doubt they'll stick with the whole handheld shtick. Handheld gaming is dying. The Vita's dead. The Wii-U's basically dead. 3DS is alright but yeah, basically dead. So the only console I see a KH sequel being on other than the PS4 or XBONE is the Codename NX, and even then, it shouldn't because Reggie confirmed that Nintendo are morons by saying that the NX isn't as powerful as the PS4 or XBONE. Basically making the same mistake they made with the Wii-U.

Working on a game in general shortens your lifespan. You'd be lucky to get any sleep at all.

That's why it pisses me off when people unfairly shit on games. People put every ounce of their being into it.

I dunno, Miyamoto's been around for quite a while and he's still kicking. Kingdom Hearts is Nomura's passion project, he never once decided to just stop working on it even when he went to work on Versus XIII, he made sure that he was involved in regular KH releases every year or so. Besides, I think Nomura is one of those 'in love with his job' sort of people. And who knows if/when he's had a vacation, anyway? For all I know, Yasue's been picking up the slack while Nomura's been kicking it in the Bahamas or something.

I agree with the others, Nomura enjoys his job. He experiences stress, but he dishes it out as he continues to love working on KH3, KH 2.8, etc. 

Honestly, I'm comfortable with the idea of not getting a Kingdom Hearts game for a while after III comes out, ya know?  I mean, after the end of the Xehanort Saga, we should all catch a breather, and Nomura should, too!  And that would make things even better, cuz suppose that 5 or 6 years pass after III comes out! We, the fanbase, will by then be really nostalgic and want the new saga to begin, ya know? And also, a buttoad of Disney and Pixar films will have come out, so you get that too! At that point, Nomura will put it into full gear, and the next saga will be realized!

 

But yeah, the guy should definitely take a well deserved rest after he and his team finish up Kingdom Hearts III!
