Next-gen is being considered for the HD collections, plus more-- Yasue talks KH2.5 with IGN

IGN have conducted an interview with Tai Yasue, the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series. Here, Yasue discusses Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, revealing a lot about the new title, while also showing off the E3 2014 gameplay demo. You can see the full interview below, or read a summary of the important points below that.

- The decision to make both HD 1.5 ReMIX and HD 2.5 ReMIX was made at the same time, in anticipation for Kingdom Hearts III.
- In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, a lot of UI and VFX are improved, in addition to the textures.
- Soundwise, over 90 songs were re-recorded with live instruments, from a hired orchestra.
- In Birth by Sleep Final Mix, a lot is changed with polygons and textures. The graphics now use over 4x as much memory as on the PSP.

-- A question some people have been asking me is why not release a PS4 version and take advantage of next-generation architecture?

Yasue: When we were first coming up with the idea for 1.5, 2.5 and 3, PS3 was the main console for us. We sort of wanted to have it gathered in one console, the PS3. But, we haven't really-- we might-- there's a consideration of going to the next-gen as well, we haven't really decided, there's no announcements yet, but I guess we're open to ideas for now.

- Nothing has been decided yet regarding a HD 2.5 ReMIX collector's edition for North America or Europe.
- There will be more trophies in HD 2.5 ReMIX than HD 1.5 ReMIX, some hard, some easy, due to the sheer amount of content in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Birth by Sleep Final Mix.
- "Will the collection give us any previews for Kingdom Hearts III?" For the Re:coded cinematics theatre, there will be some secret events that will give a fuller understanding to the backstory of Kingdom Hearts.

Yeah! Because the fans totally love it when you make them spend money on previous gen console version just for you to give them a big f**k you. At least these dun have DLC unlike TLOU that I spent $20 extra (others may have spent more separately) to get and PS4 owners get everything for the price of the single game. I know it's no big deal, but show some appreciation to your dedicated fans will ya!

Here is an idea let KH3 also have a downgraded version then everyone is happy.

Except for the one who buys a PS4 for it. I think I'm going to wait a bit more after KH3 is released.

Oh well nothing is confirmed yet just a though.

They'd better find some way to make it cheaper for those of us who get the PS3 versions. I'm getting a PS3 on Tuesday, and plan on getting 1.5 with it. I'll be pissed off if a re-release comes right after. -_-

He didn't say they will, just that it's under consideration. I'm sure they have LOTS of things under consideration. I'm betting they'll just use PlayStation Now since it's confirmed Square Enix is supporting it.

They won't use Playstation Now for KH unless they fix that contract with Utada's music. As long as it stands KH must have physical releases. Case in point, they can't use Playstation Now. That and the fact that they would want Xbox to also have a version too. They can't stream PS3 games to Xbox. thirdly they already remastered these games and the source on PC dev anyway. It's easy to port that down to next gen consoles.

I believe the chances are high. Square only seems to be doing HD remasters now, Nomura wants all KH on a centrailized console(s) [KH3 along with 1.5& 2.5], they were only planning for PS3 because Square didn't get the console sdks from either Sony or Microsoft, and of course more money.

Either way hoping for a PC release but if not then PS4 will do. I don't see them announcing those versions till after 2.5 releases worldwide anyway as to sucker all you guys to buying the PS3 version of the games and maximize sales.

I don't think it will be considering KH3D is already rendered in an HD format. Plus KH3D has a section for cutscenes so it wouldn't really be necessary.

I don't think KH3D is in HD

Well, seeing as how they are thinking of porting the games to the PS4, I think it's safe to say that this might be what Nomura has in store for next year's Kingdom Hearts release, thus allowing Nomura and the team to finish work on KH3 for a 2016 release.  It makes sense, so I think that Square will lean on the porting to PS4 option.

Fingers crossed for next gen ports. I have the PS3 Collectors Edition of 1.5. but I don't necessarily have a ps3 anymore (it's complicated, I have it but at the same time I don't...). The HD ports of Kingdom Hearts would go nicely with my other PS4 games :)

I just want to be able to buy a PS4 (cause I don't have a PS3 either). Bought 1.5 to play on a friend's PS3, but he no longer lives nearby. Besides, many of the games I wanted to play I likely could with Playstation Now, or have already played. That said, if I find a good refurbished PS3 at a lower price, I'd be likely to go for it.

I have the perfect title name for the possibility of them bringing these collections to PS4:Kingdom Hearts HD 4.0 Remix: the combination of 1.5 and 2.5 only on PS4. (what's cool of naming that 4.0 is that if you add 1.5 and 2.5, it equals 4 and it also fits for the PS4) That would be absolutely perfect :)

But then it would confuse many more casual players lol, they'd think it's KH4. Then again, Square Enix did have KH3D which fit the 3DS, and it still confused some casual people, so it's definitely not impossible

There is no "one game a year" thing.

And yet Kingdom Hearts III is coming to Xbox One.

That's not true, Kingdom Hearts begun development before that mess. Sony purchased those shares after The Sprits Within's mess.

Of course its coming to the Xbox One, all that I said is I think its a waste of time.  If it helps drive sales, great.

I wouldn't mind a simple port to the PS4, nothing that takes too much time and resources.

Well if there's not KH3D, I don't know who could buy again the hd remix collection.

I have an Xbox 360 and both my brothers have Xbox next gens. As much as I want a PS3 just to play KH 1&2.5 remixes, I have other priorities that require the money I am working for. But if they make the HD collection for next gen, I can play it on the next gen.

I understand your reasons, but why should they make the next gen porting also for XONE if they have not released it for X360?

Because its painfully obvious the HD collections are PS3 exclusives at this time. Look at what 343 is doing with Halo 1&2 HD, releasing them on the next gen along with 3 and 4. It's very possible the same could happen with the Kingdom Hearts series, release all the games with KH3 on nextgen as a console bundle. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I hate xbox, have always been extremely biased toward playstation but If they're bringing KH3 to Xbone then it will get the HD games as well. Quote me on that.

I don't think the sales will be that good either as I don't think the XBox one fan base has been as exposed to the series as they could be. I think the majority of sales will come from the PS 4 if they were to make it on only those two.

I wonder if they'll considering the Wii U too...

Btw about Kh 3D. Perhaps they could make it into an HD movie like they did with Days and are doing with Re:Coded, for the release on the new gen consoles if they do go ahead with the idea.

WiiU...lol.

KH3D's reality shifts and touch scren featurs can be ported to take advantage of kinect and PS4 touch pad. I don't want a movie. I want an HD remaster with a 3D option. 3D's effect is more pronounced in 1080p so I can enjoy it more.

Yeah but, it's not the same to play the games though...What I mean is that the story of DDD is VERY important, because explains a lot of things and at the same time it adds new things (like time travel, the real goal of Xehanort etc.)

Me too!I would love a special edition of KH3 with the game and the remastered version of KH3D!
